I love the rain in the PNW, what I hate is heat waves and fire season 😕
I've lived in Chicago and Upstate New York, and Boston for too many school years, and in Portland we have cute little winters with a little bit of snow and cold, and some hot summers, with days over 100 and, gosh, climate change is next week. But, the spring and fall have the most beautiful light and mild weather, and I'm here for the rest of my life. ( ok, I'm 78 but the thought counts. )
East side houses you show look exactly like pretty'd up working class houses -- NW U.S. style. They look cheap, but your market is probably a couple with children, desperate for any kind of safe neighborhood.
Nice homes
Thank you for watching!
I've been watching lot of Portland related content here on YT including your videos too. Very well put together and informative, thanks for all the hard work and sharing of information. This city seems to wear a very depressing, slimy and damp look, what with all the damp, wet ever turning narrow roads and old structured houses. Being from mid-west (MI, IN, IL, OH, TX), I am very much used to seeing well laid out and neatly developed suburbs and subdivisions and giant commercial strips. I guess Portland being built on hilly terrain can't have that.
Aww thanks so much for the kind words! That means a lot. The ever turning narrow roads tends to be more on the west side for sure than the east side, but as far as the well laid out and neatly developed suburbs with giant commercial strips, I'd say the suburbs here are definitely like that. This video was mainly focused on the city of Portland but if you look at Beaverton, Hillsboro, Tigard, Tualatin, Happy Valley, etc, you tend to see those more neatly developed neighborhoods with massive strip malls near by. One of the biggest that comes to mind is Cedar Hills Crossing, I feel like that could hold its own even in the Texas suburbs it's so huge. Feels like its own little town almost. Anyways, thanks again for watching and leaving such a nice comment. Are you considering a move here or just watching for entertainment? :D

The fall leaves are gorgeous. I see it was uploaded end of Nov but when was this filmed?
November 21 and 22 was when this was filmed! Thanks for watching. 🤗
Ok real talk. Is there a homeless encampment near by? Which neighborhoods are they usually in?
There aren't neighborhoods "they are usually in." Folks are constantly being displaced through sweeps (ineffective, costly, and temporary, superficial fixes), and move all around. Basic need resources tend to be clustered in certain areas, so there may appear to be more encampments/houseless folks in one area over another sometimes. Even this is changing a bit though as more community benefit organizations open up to meet the need outside of the typical areas (downtown, for instance). There's also a big push to do more mobile outreach (CCC, Portland Street Medicine) so I imagine this will change how people decide where they feel safe to stay. I'm by no means an expert but if you have real questions, let's chat. I'm speaking as a former housing case manager for a nonprofit focused on a subset of this population, a former coordinator of Medicaid benefits with many clients who were houseless or incredibly close to becoming houseless, and someone who worked on a housing pilot program that preceded the current health related social need benefits through OHP that just rolled out. I can tell you this for sure...folks go where they can be safe and where they can access resources, usually. I promise you, there isn't some plan everyone is in on to post up in specific neighborhoods to purposely cause issues for residents of Portland. Is it tough when a camp is close to your home? Absolutely. No denying that. But there's so much that goes into being houseless that gets overlooked when people want to paint Portland in a certain light to make their point. Again, let's talk. I'd love to share as much as possible about all the things I'm aware of and the incredible work being done to support both our housed and houseless neighbors navigate this tough situation.
You asked us to guess when that last house was built. I'm gonna guess somewhere between 1925 and 1935. Strangely enough, I liked the $600,000-ish home better than the $700,000-ish one. Nice haircut, by the way. (I'm trying to win free coffee with flattery.) 😀
Spot on guess although I don't wanna give away the exact answer in case someone else wants to take a guess 🙃 thank you for the haircut compliment! Someone's been paying attention :) I'll toss your comment into the hat for the next coffee drawing 🤗
This was a fun walk-&-talk. If you're paying these prices you're doing so because of the neighborhood. Therefore, it only makes sense to spend as much time selling the local shops as you do the house. Nob Hill is a great example of this. Love that neighborhood!
Thanks for the feedback and for watching!! I am just trying to give people the real feel for these neighborhoods and homes in a way that you can't get just from browsing on Zillow. Thanks again.
Fact #1: Just DON'T...😳🤦♀️🇱🇷💔
😂 Lol ok. Thanks for your valuable contribution to the comments section.
I’m from Los Angeles and been to Portland for work couple times I loved the city I plan on moving there by this next year hopefully I do
Right on! Hope you make it up here. Thanks for watching.
I love Portland only good memories from PDX
Is it true that the sun almost never shines there?
While it's true that Portland gets stretches with no sun, esp in the winter, Portland averages around 145 sunny days per year, which is a bit below the national average of 205 sunny days, but when it's the sunny time of year here it's MAGICAL. However, we do get a lot of nice partly-cloudy days where maybe it's not sunny, but it's also not raining either which make it nice to get outside and enjoy the outdoors or the city. Come check it out sometime! Thanks for watching.
@portlandoregonliving FWIW...I have a childhood friend that relocated to Portland 25 years ago and she absolutely loves it there ...says she would NEVER leave...so there's something good going on there.
No clouds and no rain in July and August. Just clear skies. The rains start in September or October.
This is NOT a cool place. Everything you show is so subpar to standards in the East Coast. Im literally shocked by how anyone can think Portland is decent.
Yikes! 😬 You seem upset. Maybe you should go get an ice cream cone or something. Thanks for watching! 🤗
You are what destroyed Portland.
Me?
Love your channel. I live in San Diego and might be moving to Portland in about a year. Like you I was very worried about the Mexican food situation up there until I found your channel. I am going up there for 10 days to check out the area next month. Do you have any recommendations for Mexican restaurants that I should check out?
Haha right on, I feel you! Taco Salsa on 149th and Stark is legit. Love their tacos Al carbon and all the other tacos too, tortillas are made to order. My fav burritos in town are from La Morenita on Hawthorne (best breakfast burrito in town IMO and traditional burritos are great too) and Tienda Santa Cruz (regular burritos). Go to Loncheria Los Mayas or Ki’ikibáa for panuchos. If you don't like any of those idk what to tell ya 😅🤗thanks for watching!
@@portlandoregonliving Thank you! Happy New Year!
Great videos!
Thanks! 🤗
Thanks for describing how seasons work 😂
Thanks for watching.
I live in SW, Ashcreek. It depends on your definition of walkable. I used to get bored walking here until I was ordered to walk 30 minutes a day. Now I walk much longer. What I discovered here was a great sense of whimsy. There is a mini trail through a couple of blocks and what I would call a fairy tree. I read that it was started by a family during lockdown. People hang decorations in it. And there are a couple of amusing skeletons further up. You might look up Sidewalk Joy. We have a lot of Little Free Libraries and interesting variations. In my area there is a box with dog treats and several posted poems here and there.
Totally! Thank you for sharing that. You're absolutely right, it totally depends what you consider "walkable". Even the quietest suburbs are absolutely a pleasure to walk around in, esp when there's a lot of nature like in your neighborhood so you make good points. For the purpose of this video, I was considering a neighborhood "walkable" based on the available amenities nearby. I appreciate you chiming in tho and thanks for watching! (Ps I live in the SW too!)

Crows are a bonus.
Amazing none of you ever explores or mentions the outer east side. And I know why, but the videos make Portland look completely stuck up.
Happy to head farther east, is there a specific neighborhood you had in mind? Some of my favorite tacos in Portland are at 149th and Stark!
@ Not there! I said that because for over 40 yrs, this area has been neglected by the City, and is now crime ridden. It would be nice to showcase Argay, Mt Scott, Rose City. Nobody has ever shown Maywood, which has some amazing vintage houses. Anything NE 120th Halsey /Burnside/Division/Powell to 190th is unsafe and neglected. I appreciate you replying, enjoyed the video.
Thank you for the suggestions! I am working on my content plan for the new year and that involves showing as many neighborhoods as I possibly can as well as listings/types of homes available in those neighborhoods so I'll definitely stop by the father east, there's some under rated gems on the east side at amazing price points. Thanks for watching!
Muy buen video gracias ❤
This reminds me of the anti-tourism campaign from the 70’s lol it didn’t work then either.
😂😂
If you're thinking of moving to Porkland Whoregone, where dreams come to die.... DON'T! You want nothing to do with this tax slave colony.. enslaved Ukrainian, OUT!
THANKYOU FOR KEEPING OREGON JUST THAT. I live here and love Oregon. Most videos will say Vancouver is part of Portland and IT IS NOT. If you want to live in Washington do so. Oregon is Oregon and Washington is Washington. I don't believe we share anything.
north side
Love Portland. Lots of trees, Victorians, coffee spots, good restaurants, Powell’s, good transit, parks, bridges…plus music, and so on. The haters target…Portland, Seattle, SF.
The haters do not know much.
Lol Portland really is terrible compared to how it was before biden and the immigrants that have flooded this state i hate that there done and i can't wait to see the governor arrested for harboring criminals what a peice of trash place .
Wait I'm confused. What part of Portland do you live in?
Pretty bad to live in Portland the smell 😂 the drug users & mentally ill people all over the place screaming etc
What neighborhood do you live in?
@ buckman neighborhood area so by revolution hall across the steel bridge. Right down the road from holiday park.
Ah gotcha, that makes sense. I think you mean the Morrison bridge though?
@@portlandoregonliving burnside bridge but some people wanna call it the steel bridge for some reason if I don’t wanna wait for the bus & it’s a nice day I walk across that bridge but when you get to China town or old town section it smells bad.
Amazing video!
Thank you! 🙏🙌
What did you mean by cheeks?
Where my St Johns crew at?
Eyy! Just helped someone with buying a house up in St Johns! Love it up there. Pier park is an underrated jem of Portland. Shout out to Tienda Santa Cruz burritos 🔥
Which side has a functioning police department?
West. SW or NW.
West, but stay away from burnside area and chinatown
Just stay from multnomah county
WHere can I download a poop map
No thanks it smells like body Oder
Why would anyone volunteer to move to Portland, OR? I lived there from 2000 - 2016 and never plan on living there again. The libs ruined the city.
There's many reasons over 3M people voluntarily live in the greater Portland area and over 600,000 in the city alone. Just cause you're not one of them anymore doesn't mean others won't like it here. Thanks for stopping by the channel and I hope you are happy with which ever place you live in now. 🙌
I’ve really been enjoying your videos about Portland. Thank you! I understand you are a realtor and it makes sense that is what you focus on, but it would be great to have more info on rental options for those of us who can’t really afford to buy in Portland. I am planning a move to Portland this summer and can’t really find a lot of info that really discuss various options. As of now, I am leaning toward studio living and would like to find some reviews that are little less biased than the descriptions offered from leasing agents.
Totally understand where you're coming from and I'm glad to hear that you appreciate the content! Thanks for the kind words! Here's my advice when it comes to rentals: 1) Look at as many different sources as possible for rental listings including appartments.com, craigslist, etc. Probably the best case scenario is renting directly from an owner but there's plenty of good property management companies too. 2) When you're first moving here, if you're single with no kids, look into shared living spaces on craigslist. You can rent a room in a nice house here in a nice area for relatively really cheap, generally much cheaper than an apartment or studio. You can live there as you get to know Portland and eventually step up to your own place if you want to, once you really understand the lay of the land here. 3) When you see something you like, go see it ASAP and put in an application because sometimes rentals can be very competitive and land lords here are required to consider all qualified applicants in the order that the application is received. 4) Keep watching the videos to get an understanding of the areas! Though yes, I am a real estate agent helping people buy homes here, I try to make my content valuable and relevant to anyone who is looking for info to make a move here to the Portland area. :D cheers and thanks again for watching! -Matt
Can you talk about Farmers Markets or local farms?
Oh totally - I should have mentioned that in this video. Portland is a haven for local farmers markets offering fresh seasonal fruits and veggies, and it's kind of a staple of the city. There are many farmers markets all over Portland and countless farms within an hour or so and beyond of the center of the city. The grandest market of them all has got to be the year round PSU farmers market which is located in southwest downtown, it varies in size depending on the time of the year but it's got so many different local vendors whether you want fresh locally grown produce, or meats, locally foraged mushrooms, locally made kimchi or pasta, baked goods, flowers, sweets, wine, spirits, you name it! Or if you just want to grab a bite it's got one of my favorite breakfast burrito stands and even booths serving up fresh espresso. Some other favorites include the Montavilla Farmers Market, King Market, S Waterfront Market, Hollywood, even the Beaverton farmers market is excellent. As far as farms go, I personally love to go to Topaz Farm up on Sauvie Island and there's a bunch of other U-Pick berry farms up there on the island which is always a great little day trip to escape the city only about 30 mins away.
@@portlandoregonliving Music to my ears! We need to move out of FL this spring when our lease is up in May. Oregon is on our list of places to move! Might contact you in January for more info.
If your lonely and not into the woke crowd. Forget making. Friends here. I have not met any lonely folks in Portland people hoping to make friends will find it and cold city.. The local population doesn't understand that the whole world doesn't agree with them.. and you'll find if you don't agree with them especially politically, or on social issues you will get the shrill cold stare. And forget saying hi to strangers. 99% of the time you will be ignored and given a blank stare. Good luck if you plan on moving here I've found it one of the most unfriendly cities in the US

Oregon and California The original OAC
Definitively, I prefer the west side, especially the southwest and the northwest.
Uh, have you been to NW side lately?crime, drugs.... dont go to Chinatown....
Life long East sider 💜.
Great job describing our neighborhoods
Thanks! Thanks for watching.
It’s such a shame US progressives can’t be like European social democrats. Instead, it’s this weird mix of drugs, identity politics, and corporate activism. Just socialize healthcare and universities, ban all drugs, and put the crazies, gang members, and druggies in sanatoriums for life.
What is the best area to find all modern homes and not just a redo on a block of old properties? Someone says Hillsboro. I wouldn't buy for $600k and it's next to a hoarder house or poorly maintained properties
So just to be clear, what exactly do you mean by "all modern?" Like brand new construction? Or just something maybe built in the last 20-30 years. Either way, there's numerous options most of which will be found in pretty much any nearby suburb of Portland, including Hillsboro. Check out this video I made touring a few different areas you might like: ua-cam.com/video/vqiRBpxrKhA/v-deo.htmlsi=sHj2yADgzbQ7CtSH
Outer North West. Past Forest Park. The areas are unincorporated to a point, but they are much newer than East side homes.
The corner of SE Hawthorne and Caesar Chavez is the center of my universe.
Tov.
I think I would love the east side the most! Seems really chill and community minded.
