Interview with a Gatekeeper || Dissociative Identity Disorder
Each alter within a system has a function that they fulfil, often called their 'role'. We've created this mini-series to explore how different alters within our system carry out their role, their thoughts and feelings about their role, and their opinion on some other roles within our system. These videos are not intended to give a complete overview of a role, or speak for all alters who use a specific role term, but instead offer an insight into specific alters personal experiences. In this video, Charles explains how he functions as a gatekeeper, as well as a guardian and caretaker.
Our Carrd: brigadeofbeans.carrd.co/?fbcl...
This is your friendly reminder that we are not professionals, we are simply a diagnosed DID system sharing what we have learnt for ourselves over the past several years. Please do your own research, and talk to a health professional if anything mentioned in our videos raises concerns.

Day In Our Life || March Vlog || Dissociative Identity Disorder
Переглядів 213День тому
We filmed this video in March of 2024, and edited it together then. However, shortly after this our mental health declined, and we had to take a leave of absense from our studies. This was an incredibly hard decision to make, however it ended up being for the best. We’ve finally been able to watch this video back and not feel such intense grief and guilt about pausing university, and we wanted ...

All About Front Indicators || Dissociative Identity Disorder || Reupload from 2022
Переглядів 3079 місяців тому
Hi everyone, and welcome back to our channel. This video was filmed some time early to mid 2022, and explains what front indicators are and why some systems might choose to use them. As some of you know, in 2023 we lost all of our old videos. We believed all of these videos to be lost, however we recently discovered that we still had this one saved on an external hard drive. We are continuing t...

This video is an interview style introduction to 10 members of one of our subsystems, the Endless Lakes. It was filmed over several weeks, so please be patient with the changes in audio, background and framing. This is simply the reality of how long it takes to film a video like this. This video was going to come out sooner, however more people decided to participate, requiring more editing and...
All About the Complexity of Parts || Dissociative Identity Disorder

Curious about what makes one headmate a fragment and another part an alter? Here are some answers to that very question! On an editorial note: there is space for another complexity category between minimal parts and pure introjects for brain made alters (not introjects) who are unaware they are part of a system (I promise that makes sense if you watch the video). As we do not currently have any...

All About System Terms || Dissociative Identity Disorder

Hi everyone, welcome to our video about system terms. Some very important points: not all systems will use the terms in this video how they are described in this video. Systems are allowed to use whatever language/terms they feel best fits the...

Hi!! Thanks for speaking about certain things. Some people do really think that gatekeepers are all-knowing and all-seeing and can control everything, but if that were the case systems wouldn't have flashbacks or wouldn't deal with amnesia that's obvious to the outside world, etc etc. I feel like some people forget that even though some alters may have access to certain abilities like how you describe, it's still one human brain and we are not literally superheroes. Hope you're as ok as you can be, it ain't easy

Hey! Emerald here, the same one from DIDebunk who suggested the gatekeeper role. This reminds me of what l do very much as a fellow gatekeeper in my system (I also take care of disabled child alters), and coincidentally, we have a similar issue with other gatekeepers wanting control! Another coincidence between us is that there’s a gatekeeper in my system who specialises in splits and fusions, though that one manages alters’ access to each other and manipulates most of the inner world landscape instead of me. Still, I feel seen and understood by someone outside of my system about my internal roles, which is great because I don’t experience it often! You’re very right that gatekeepers have emotions! We feel the same, and we resonate with the statement inside the video a lot about allowing everyone to live their best lives. Personally, I resonate with the likes and dislikes, since it’s highly relatable! Thanks Charles so much for taking the time out to share your experiences. Keep it up!

This video reminded me of an alter we have in our system called Sam who has a tendency to isolate and ignore other people, he's not particularly talkative even with people we've assured him are entirely safe and comfortable to talk to. However this isn't a necessarily bad thing, when we're struggling to take space for ourselves or when we're struggling to not interact with people who are potentially harmful or irritating then he steps in to cool things off by taking us out of those situations or ignoring those people so we don't get harmed or lash out because of stress. We have him front with someone who he's comfortable with to help approve people who are safe to talk to if we need to keep us in touch with them and we make sure that if he fronts he isn't dragging us out of positive social interaction out of his own disinterest for socialising. I think most system roles have benefits but it's about working out how certain behaviours can be helpful and in his case having him front in moderation does keep us more safe and calm. Seeing you talk about your roles within the system was a nice start to my morning, it was a good reminder that healing comes with time and that some behaviours can seem negative but still ultimately be beneficial if you find the right balance. I'm excited to see where this series goes and as per usual your videos are a great insight, good job y'all!!

We have been in therapy specifically for DID for just over four years now, and a lot of that has focused on building our trust and relationships with each other. Creating these videos helps build our internal communication and understanding of each other, whilst also offering others an insight into how DID presents for us. If you take issue with diagnosed systems speaking about their lived experiences, that is entirely a you issue, which I think you need to address. No happy person gets on the internet to harass and fake claim strangers.

Of course, making videos and creating insight as to why we act and behave the way we do can help strengthen internal connections, and improve the perception of persecutors within the general population ~ Magnus

Thank you! I didn't realise the slides would be so hard to see, but I've just uploaded them to our tik tok and put a link to the that in the video description so that hopefully you and others will be able to see them and read them better! We were trying something new in this video, and I don't think we'll be doing it again as it didn't quite work, but that's okay!

i dont have DID but first off thanks for the info!! anyway i relate heavily to “sometimes healing doesnt mean human” it’s honestly impossible for me to really feel that im human, pretty much my whole life has been dehumanizing till now i just feel like a small animal or fairy or something that just doesn’t fully understand humans and younger than my age, i also regress sometimes, thankfully i have what you could call a protector but externally not an alter, idk how to finish this so :3

Really nice video, sadly we could barely hear you even with full volume on our laptop and on youtube :( also the screen you were showing wasn't really readable to us at least. Just mentioning for your next video because we love your content and would love to hear you clearly! On the topic of non-human alters: I think we have at least one, who's a mythical, humanoid creature. Idk why she's like that. I think she's actually an ANP and formed as a vætte/troll because we grew up playing in the forest and drawing trolls. she looks very human, but she's got yellow irises, small horns and a tail similar to that of a cow. i think she has fangs too maybe? I don't believe she formed to hold trauma, but instead to hold happy feelings of nature being a safe place for us. We also have a new-ish alter, or at least newly "discovered" who's kinda "creature" like. She looks pretty much human, but she's also got fangs and yellow-ish irises. I think they're more of a "creature" in the neurodivergent way of feeling "nonhuman"? We suspect we might also be autistic and/or adhd, so this alter might have formed around this feeling of not being human because of our neurodivergence. She's also an ANP, seemingly! She's literally just here to have a silly time and collecting weird things >:3 We are generally not super aware about our system and rn i think we know of 9 system members, so we've probably got a bunch of animals, creatures and objects in there whom we don't know about currently. I know we also sometimes feel like a cat or other animals, but idk if this is another alter or what. DID is a confusing condition 😅

One of the only few DID videos I've seen with good explanations. One correction, though: DID, autism, and such are not neurological, this is misinformation (not from you, from other people who say this sort of thing). Neurodevelopmental is the term!

    • @brigadeofbeans
      @brigadeofbeans 11 місяців тому

Thank you for the correction! We do normally say neurodevelopmental, but must have messed up the wording here. It's a very big and necessary distinction.
