looks great
Turned out nice.
Thank you for watching!
i know exactly why it doesn't have a number. my friend worked for john at the time of these and he also has one without a number
What was the reason?
LOVE MY ACRO. Picked it up in SLC, Utah. Used, private party in 1988 for $80, with case.
Thank you for watching!
Tinker bell
Cool! But I’ll never save to haul all that extra crap around.
I think this will be a better fit for a gig bag. I bought the larger one, and it is indeed too large for most gigs. I typically use the larger one for either my timpani mallet storage or BD/Gong mallets.
More crack on the 10 lug one the 8 sounds more lively love them both
I did the same mod and installed it upside down so that way it won’t put stress on the it.
Clearly you have a mic, you should talk mate
Full review is coming soon. Lots of talkin in that one ;)
Are you liking it? I will be getting one in the extreme near future.
I’m really liking it! If you like 2 legged hi hat stands this is definitely the one to get. It has a ton of adjustments and I just dialed mine in. It’s externally responsive to everything I play on it. Especially playing hi-hat splashes or playing uptempo bop. Thanks for watching!
@ that’s what I’m looking for is expressive foot control and I heard the stand is the best if not, one of the best at it
@@medallion39same here. It’s worth every penny to me. No lag whatsoever and the spring is rock solid. Also folds up really nicely which is a huge plus. Definitely worth the price.
@ I used to have an iron cobra. I had stand where the pedal folded up and I loved it, but from what I heard this Yamaha stand is the bees knees.
@@medallion39 Im a big yamaha hardware fan. If you're on the fence you should defiantly get it. Its great!
I have that same drum. New, mint, never played condition. 1 of the 150 made and sold at the 2007 NAMM show. Bought it from the original owner for $800. I keep it in a glass case. I've played Ludwig drums for 61 years. Still have and play my childhood set. A 1967 Super Classic in WMP.
That's awesome! I love the stories that our drums sometimes come with. I have a downbeat Ludwig kit in Skyblue pearl that I hope to make a video on someday. Thank you for watching!
Killing it!! 🔥
Thank you for watching!
Rest in peace, Sam Ash. It still boggles my mind that after 100 years, a full century, they decided to close all their stores. Sam Ash was one of my first music stores and I loved going to it whenever I went to Ohio, and when I found out that they opened one in Texas, I was excited. But to have it all shut down like this, and on their own 100th anniversary, it’s heartbreaking and sad that it had to happen.
Mister Ramos
I don't understand why you didn't have the Shell rechrommed. It doesn't cost that much, and you would have a mint looking drum.
I'm getting the 60s 424 anyone know the difference or history. Thanks
Great video. Do you happen to have any tips for removing rust?
Depends on what part of the drum is rusted. What are you working with?
@@destination_percussion There's a little rust on the throw off and on the rims.
You can always throw your parts in some evaporust. Get a large enough container, let them sit for a gas hours or an entire day, then wipe them down with some water and a cloth. Link is below to some evaporust a.co/d/eVoD2qr
@@destination_percussionI’ll give that a shot. Thank you!
The P35 is nice, but those notches on the P88 make me feel like I can't get the exact tension that I want.
You’re right, I never really thought about that. The tension isn’t infinitely adjustable like a P85 or a P83 because of the notched tension device. We traded our adjustability to have the tension not back off while playing the drum. Thanks for watching!
Yeah man 👊🏽👊🏽
I made the same modification myself, I got the tap at Home Depot as I didn’t have that size in my tap and die set. It worked out great!
That's awesome! The P35 is great. It's a real shame it doesn't come threaded out of the box. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the suggestion!
Thank you for watching!
Excellent! I went to UNT in the 80’s Percussion Performance major. Amazing experience and the TX sun will burn most everything! Nice restoration!!!
I was really scared of ruining the wrap on the drum because of how hot it was outside those days. It was like 99-104 out those days. Thanks for watching!
Totally understand the "gigging drum" vs "home drum" thing. It's really hard to replace vintage instruments. Also depends on the gig. I'm also very/not surprised about the holes in the butt plate: I had to tap these recently (M4 works great w/o drilling), and you'd think after 5 years, Ludwig would have fixed this. INDe for my next one for sure.
I've been wanting to try the INDe throw and butt plate for a while. I'll have to buy a set for my next project. Thanks for watching!
Nice work. One possible addition I might suggest. During your "after" close-ups, I seemed to notice some scuffs and scratches in the shells. You can rub something called "scratch cover" or "scratch remover" on those blemishes to minimize them. It is basically a thin stain that wipes off the surface, just staying in the scratch to help hide it. Maybe you did that and the close-up just made the scratches more visible than they are IRL. Anyway, good work doing a nice, thorough job.
Hi Destin! Great Video!!! If you`re interested in calfheads check out my company, the "Austrian Drumhead Company". Steve Maxwell is selling our heads in the US and they have them in stock :D
Great video. Keep’em coming! 💯 Sidenote: People don’t know what they want.. don’t create for others. Do your own thing! To each their own. ✌️ Never stop creating.
Thank you for the kind words and thank you for watching!
I didn't even think about trying to buy any of their signs, I went in the other day and got a $8 Gibraltar 2.3 mm for my 13-inch snare and then I got a drum head for that same snare for like 12 bucks but outside of that everything else is pretty much gone
MAAMMA?!? Real talk, I shed a few tears on that day. Endings are difficult, but they are a part of life. Treasure the things that you have before they’re taken from you!
Yes IHave suggestion on what to do with these drums ,you can just give them to me
Great video! Thanks for the support
Thank you for what you do for the percussion community! I've always loved watching your vids! Thank you for watching mine :)
honestly, i like them all haha
Me too! It's was hard for me to write the end of this video because they all sound really good. Especially on that Ludwig universal! Thanks for watching, Shawn!
I lean Evans overall
why wd-40 on hoops before Brasso?
Brasso is very abrasive. I try to use a non abrasive method of cleaning before stepping it up to something abrasive. In this case here I needed to step it up after the WD-40. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!
@@destination_percussion thanks to you for the great tips and inspiration :) I have found an old Pearl made in Japan, a maple jazz kit that needs some lovin'...:)
@@bubuotis That made my day reading that! Thank you for watching!
Awesome snare. I've got several WFL 6-lug snares ranging from 5.5 - 6.5x14. The 6.5's sound so good - lots of woody crack but with some extra punch added. Beautiful drum you have!
The pioneers have been some of my favorite drums in my collection. I have a really clean transition badge 5 x 14 black gold duco I want to put up on the channel really soon. Thank you for watching!
@@destination_percussion Awesome! I brought out my Transition Badge 5.5x14 yesterday. It's WMP - dated Sept. 5 1959. I had a Transition badge Blue/Silver duco - March 1960 - but I sold it a few months ago. I hate selling drums to buy drums - but sometimes you just have to.
@@PatrickWitherow Ahh yes.. The age old struggle of having to sell a drum.I also hate selling them. I have about 30 to my name now lol.
Rick Dior 😂 legend
Rick is a legend! I love his vids and the pieces he writes. Thank you for watching!
What is the music that starts around 1:12?
That song is called Funkman. It's a "retro 70's funk track" thats copy right free. I slowed the track down in the video. Thanks for watching!
Thank you! Your drumming sounds great.
@@ronjila Just made my day! Thank you for watching!
Lotus 72D - Zé Roberto
@@cigarro_oThank you…it’s great!
I’d just keep the original but plate on my accent snare drum
As a extra measure of precaution I would use a bottoming tap to avoid stripping threads!
I surprised myself that I actually like the 8 lug better. It sounds throatier.
I really love the way the 8 lug drum sounds. I'm also really getting into the 6 lug pioneers. Thank you for watching!
That's what gives an Acro it's character,it has a bark
just found one today for 170bux,ordered die cast hoops atttack red baron puresound blasters and snare straps so it will crack and kill.
That sounds like a killer combo! I've been wanting to try the Attack Heads myself! Thank you for watching!
Bro some of them are ripped and damaged
Put tape over
1:23
I think the 10 lug overall sound is much more pleasing when it comes to the overtones. I never dampen my snare drums, I want to hear the shell sing. The 10 lug drum has more control over the overtones.
Sounds great to me on your high tuning. Nice playing it too. Hi-hats sound beautiful too. This drum is killer cool!
Thank you for watching!
Ludwig tambourine definitely reminds me of Beatles' records even when you're playing classical music
My thoughts too! You don't hear that sound on anyone else's recordings. It's a shame they don't make tambourines like that anymore.
I can’t unhear that now. Lol! Thanks for watching!
@@destination_percussion where have been? I've mentioned it twice already!
Bro this video is criminally underrated. The editing is perfect, keep up the good work!
Thank you for the kind words! There's more to come! Hope to push some more vids out very soon. Thank you for watching!
Greats job and snare!
Thank you for watching!
Maple poplar mahogany
Personally, I think the Ludwig shell is the prize. Refinishing & putting it back into playing condition would be my choice. Also the Nikkans snare is probably a Japanese copy. They made a lot of them with various company brand names. Mine is a Bradley with similar hardware and a different throw off. Great stories and finds!
The Ludwigs sound really good! I just need to get some new heads for those toms. Thanks for watching!
Damn that crome hardware shines! The hoop work was nice too.
