Why Are Tech Companies Going Nuclear
The rapid growth of artificial intelligence (AI) has significantly increased its energy consumption, with projections indicating AI could account for 1% of global energy use in the coming years. This is due to the high energy demands of AI models, which consume more power than simple web searches.
To address this challenge, major tech companies like Google, Microsoft, and Amazon are exploring more efficient energy sources, including nuclear power. Google has acquired a nuclear data center, and Microsoft is reviving the Three Mile Island plant. While nuclear energy offers a low-emission solution, its high cost and regulatory hurdles remain obstacles.
The U.S. government supports nuclear as part of a diverse energy strategy to meet climate goals. To mitigate the impact on power grids, AI may also help optimize energy management, balancing demand with sustainability. The future will depend on balancing technological advancements with environmental concerns.

Fun fact! 3 Mile Island had 2 Nuclear Reactors. Reactor 2 was the one that had the incident. But Reactor 1 stayed operational until 2019. What Microsoft is doing is regauling Reactor 1 with new tech and a new reactor and getting it operational in a fraction of the time or cost since most of it is already up to date.

Companies dont care about you. But these employees are smart they know that which is why avg tech employee stays 2 years before leaving whether on their own or laid off. These tech companies also prefer that because long term employees can get burnout or complacent. So with constant turnover companies get more dedicated fresh workers and workers with target skillset as these companies constantly change their goals.

Remote work is God’s blessing. You save commuting time and money and don’t need to work in such a tight schedule than in workplace. You get more free time when you can do cleaning, laundry etc. during the day. When there are boring meetings one can take walk or whatever and if someone asks something you can pretend the connection is bad. Long lunches and the possibility to take a little nap make the work much more relaxed. Definitely a pro choice to have a job where you can stay home. Also if you have side hussle you don’t have to do those things at your spare time.
