💧Several ways to Harvest Rainwater with Berms | Small & Large
An easy way to harvest rainwater is to slow and soak it into the ground. This can be done small scale or large. From small berms to catch water for trees, to large berms (dams) to catch pond water.

In this video I will show you two modifications to make these iron and sulfur filters work better. More important, I will show you the one easy step that has kept our iron filters working for years.

      @tyyolpi4660 Yes, they are! Also easy to can, and if you grow your own, MUCH CHEAPER that paying $1.50 + per jar at the store. I've canned pickled beets and onions as well as spiced pickled beets with whole cloves, allspice berries and cinnamon bark used to flavor the brine. Just wonderful. And I had extra spiced brine left over after I filled all my beet jars, so I fished out the whole spices and chunked up a bunch of ripe tomatoes sitting around my kitchen, and cooked it down until thick. I had made spiced tomato jam! Great on meat sandwiches or served with hummus and pita bread with veggies. Also good served with cream cheese and crackers. I gifted my friends with those cute 8-oz wide-mouth canning jars filled with the jam, with instructions to eat it sooner since I didn't process them in my water-bath canner; I wasn't sure if I had the proper vinegar to fruit ratio to be able to can them safely.

    Thank you, thats exactly the tutorial I needed. I have couple questions if you don't mind. Once the stock tanks are filled, do you bring the pressure back down to domestic pressure? And do you need to keep having to bump up the pressure to activate the float ball at the stock tank to refill, or is the water now there, with less pressure? Hope that makes sense. Thank you in advance. Matt

    • @thewindmillgarden
      @thewindmillgarden 18 днів тому

      @@Matt-bd5wc The pressure will be left at 90/110 all summer. We need it set there to push water up hill. When the cattle are moved back to winter pasture, which is mostly lower elevation than the well head, I will set pressure back down. There is enough elevation drop in the 5 miles of winter pasture pipeline run, that we need two pressure reducing valves. As for the floats, they work simply on water level. They are just larger versions of the old style floats used in toilets. Running high pressure is not ideal. It is hard on old pipes. It is just what we have to do in the summer because of were the well is and were summer pasture is.

    It`s too hot in Louisiana to go without air conditioning after various common storms we can have at any time. While I had the money two years ago right before moving into my camper on a rural lot I got a large 300ah LiFeP04 battery, solar charge controller, cables, fuses, several solar panels and a 2000w ac inverter. Then I had to study a lot to figure out how to use it. I just ordered a 2nd better solar charger, more cables and extra panels and it will be enough to keep the battery charged and directly power my window ac. I bought portable solar power stations for everything else from my freezer to low wattage cookers, lights, fans etc. We were hit by two bad hurricanes that knocked out power for weeks even here in central Louisiana in 2020. I`m certainly prepping, building a garden, and covering the place with fruit trees...over 15 so far. And I keep an old large fridge built-in to the wall of the camper stuffed with various dry food staples to prevent insects and any mice that might sneak in. I`m about to buy a 300 dollar gas cannon for the neighbor who constantly disturbs the peace with his makeshift shooting range 200 feet through the woods behind me. The entire area is sick of it. If I don`t something worse will eventually happen when I snap. He messed up by doing it today in the HEAT...usually it`s "only" on nearly every pleasant day in spring, fall and winter...all day long. My cannon can shoot 17,000 times per bottle of propane and has an adjustable timer. 130d

Clogging with rust flakes was a problem before. Even though the water is clear, it still creates rust stains. I am looking at adding a treatment stage after the big blue filters. If you know all the components you will need after an EMP, then buy extra spare ones, confirm they work, and configure them as the existing ones, then put them in a big faraday cage, unplugged, and maybe in the original packaging. Build a box to hold them all, and make it out of copper, or at least a thick copper mesh, that is earthed, and put it in the basement (I'd go full copper). Leave it closed for about 2 weeks after the last EMP, unless you have a way to measure any residual Solar Corpuscular Radiation. They should come out working and good to go. The 1859 event lasted about 8/9 days, remember that the Gamma radiation from a nuke can fry electronics, as well as the EMP (as well disintegrating, smashing, burning, baking, demagnifying, chemically denaturing them... so maybe bury that box under a few feet of soil too :).

      Good to know. What are the side effects. I’ve heard they are bitter.

    You don't necessarily need to take air out of the tank. A bladder tank needs to be 2lbs under cut in.. for example if your pump comes on at 30psi and shuts off at 50psi, you would want 28psi on the bladder in the tank. If you're running a 40/60 you want 38psi in the bladder

      Thats right. Today I dropped out well pressure from 80/100 to 40/60. Dropped tank from 78 psi to 38 psi. Just can’t get all details in on a 60 second short video. 👍

      @thewindmillgarden that's great, it's always a good feeling when you are able to conquer tasks on your own without calling a plumber! Good on you

    Not kidding! The doomsday situation you’re concerned of might it sound far fetched to some but I completely support. The only question I wonder is if everyone does this.. then what would the world be like

      I think if we all make small preps. Do what we can with what we have. We will all be stronger, and our society will get through an EMP or CME much better. Remember community and help neighbors out.

    Have you seen this plant or its seed pods?

      @bradybuttataki 28 днів тому

      I’ve only ever seen one pod. When I was 6 I found one while out with my older cousin, he told me it was the molt of an alien creature. He had gullible me running back home, and fearful of this rogue monster for days! Anyway they’re very cool looking, and I had no idea you could eat them. Solid Video!

      They do look alien. I think they are related to Okra. I have not eaten them but have watched videos of them being cooked and eaten. 👍

    What do you do if you have to pull one of the pumps in the well house?

      We call the local well service company. They are pros and have the truck and tools for the job.

    Or just bite the bullet and have windmill installed. I go up there around 5-6 times a year 3-6 days at a time

      @thewindmillgarden Місяць тому

      Yea. I am a big windmill fan. Simple mechanical motors. Nothing can stop them. They just work. Solar has come a long way. I don’t think it will take an EMP or Solar Storm though.

    I have a well in show low az that was drilled in 1980 and set up for a windmill that never got installed. I built an A Frame to hold a old dual belt pump jack that is 6ft over top of well head sucker rod stuffing box I use a 240v generator to run the 240v electric motor with 2.5" dual pulley that runs belts up to 10.5" pulley on pumpjack I get 3.5 to 4 gpm out of this set up Well is 300ft deep 145ft static level Windmill pump set at 250ft Well makes around 25-30 gpm I use it to water my cabin 200ft away and my pond 1500ft away down hill Would love to get your advice if i should put in rps solar well pump as well as any reccomendations

      @thewindmillgarden Місяць тому

      Wow. I like your style. It’s not everyone who knows what a pump jack is, let alone uses one. We have windmills on the ranch and an old antique pump jack the old timers used when there was no wind. I myself have never used it. I do not know solar, but a lot of ranchers here have installed solar pumps and are very happy with them. You should check out UA-cam channel Engineer 775. That guy knows solar and well pumps. Thanks for watching. I am working on a windmill/drip irrigation video right now. Come back and check it out in a few days.
