I do wonder if Southern will transition to these cases to replace the 377s
@@Neallaee quite possibly!
I find all haters' (are they train enthusiasts, really?) reasons ridiculous.
It should be considered strange to hate a (steam) locomotive because of its cost. For ex., about 60163 Tornado, "The original 49 Peppercorn A1s were built in 1948 and 1949 ... at £16,000 each." (Wikipedia) You gave the cost of Tornado, built in 2008, it's 3 million. So what? Let's hate each new loco? Ridiculous.
It’s strange how much I actually like these trains now they’re going to be removed in the near future
@@BlauZa I wonder if this is a common thing with a lot of the more modern rolling stock. Think of things like the Class 66, they were hated when they first arrived, now they have a much better reputation among enthusiasts. …maybe in 30 years time we’ll say the same about the tri-mode stock 😂
Anymore UA-cam Videos planed for the near future ? I really enjoy watching them!
@@Spursrail96 Thank you! Absolutely yes - lots of planning going on in the background. I work full time and it’s been extremely busy with new projects and initiatives launched etc - but lots of exciting things in the pipeline for the channel. I’ve recorded a ton of new footage this year… now I just need to figure out what to do with it all 😅 Thank you for your comment by the way, this provided me with a nice Monday boost!
Excellent very pleased to hear that more is in the pipeline, no problem glad it gave you an extra spring in your step !
These trains dont look something like from 2009 it looks so modern
Agreed, lovely units!
Hi there my real Name is Mr Cannadine T. Boxill-Harris, I have another interesting idea for most of us Class 507, Class 508, Class 313, and Class 314 and that also includes those interesting Class 315 Very Very Loud 7 Speed Leyland Hydra cyclic Automatic Transmission Train fans out there, rather than scrapping most of those Class 507, Class 508, Class 313's Class 314 including the Class 315's maybe you guys can convert them. Including rebuilding most of the brand new refurbishment into the Volvo TD102KF Engine, Gardner 6LXCT Engine, Leyland TL11 Engine, Volvo B10M Engine, Scania N112 Engine, Cummins M11 Engine, Leyland 510 Engine, Gardner 6LXB Engine, Gardner LG1200 Engine, Gardner 8LXB Engine, Class 507’s Class 313's, Class 314's and the Class 315's with a Very Very Loud 7 Speed Leyland Hydra cyclic Automatic Gearboxes and converting and that will also be including building most of them into a Two Carriages and Three Carriages per units of the Class 507’s Class 313’s, Class 508’s Class 314's and that is including those Class 315 Very Very Loud 7 Speed Leyland Hydra cyclic Automatic Transmission for all of us Class 314 and Class 315 Diesel Train fans out there PLEASE. Are you still going to do this interesting type of Project? Class 507, Class 313, and Class 314 will be rebuilding the brand new Class 315 Diesel Train fans out there Pretty Please?
Nice ideas!
in my opinion, the 225 Class british mainland LNER replacing Intercity 225 sets are renewly was resently out of commision and got scrapted in the same year 10 new Tri-mode train. I could be fairly honest, im just a railfan and phototogepher as well myself you will be impressed, But This is my favorite locomotive of the Intercity 225 sets and flying Scotsman.
I like both of those two, we have great taste!
The class 465, 466, 707, 700, 376, and 377s are my local lines I see and travel on every day
Me too! A nice little collection I think.
When Something Is New It Will Replace The Old Thing That Was Once Used Like Steam Trains Which Replaced Trevithick Trains And That Replaced Horse And Cart And When Something Becomes New In The Future These New Trains Will Be Replaced With The New Ones And I Bet In The Year 9999 Pod Trains Will Replace Robotic Future Trains.
True. Just not sure the new models will be any better than the 225s but they deserve a chance!
@trainsonthebrain We Won't Be Around To See Trains In The Far Future Because We Won't Be Alive By Then.
How do you book tickets for the class 91 set?
It's hard to plan, but this website is an excellent resource for diagrams and updates on the sets - 225group.org.uk/ If it's same day, you can check RealTimeTrains and they usually have the numbers and pictures of the actual trains on there, including the loco hauled 91 sets. Plans can sometimes change, so sometimes they got swapped out for Azuma sets. Good luck!
What location is that @4:32?
SAS 13 Bridge near Bimingham City Centre - this was from NR free stock footage.
@@trainsonthebrain Unfortunately, that's not terribly helpful for me. I can't find it on Google Maps. Do you happen to know any other nearby landmarks? What roads or station are nearby, and how they are positioned relative to the site (North, South, East, West)?
@@00Zy99 I’ve done some digging and found this article - if you scroll through there’s a map section. www.skanska.co.uk/expertise/projects/259540/SAS13-Stechford-to-Aston-rail-line-bridge-replacement%2C-Birmingham Hope that’s useful - the footage is from Network Rail press content so sourced externally, possibly taken by a member of their team on site. But hopefully the map provides some help for finding a good spot!
Class 66 belongs in a scrapyard.
66734 cab was saved and became the simulator cab for driver training at the Gbrf facilities in the uk
I preferred the flying scotsman in apple Green, or is that just me
66001 is really 66002 and vice verse 😉

Great video! I never knew why some train enthusiasts disliked the Flying Scotsman. Your explanation really made it clear. For anyone interested in more British railway history, I recommend checking out the Hand Drawn History playlist. It's full of great videos!
@@JohnWayne-n3i Thanks so much! 🫶 Agree that Hand Drawn playlist is fantastic!
8:41 All I got is that I own the Flying Scotsman which means I want to make it my new daily driver and keep it for myself
Indeed! Look after it 😂

I SERIOUSLY DO ACTUALLY WITHOUT ANY SORT OF SIGN OF DOUBT TRULY ❤ THE FAMOUS SOLE-SERVIVING DONCASTER BUILT L N E R CLASS A3 PACIFIC (4-6-2) TYPE OF STEAM-DRIVEN RAILWAY TENDER LOCOMOTIVE DESIGNED BY SIR HERBERT NIGEL GRESLEY HIMSELF THAT'S OFFICIALLY KNOWN AS THE FLYIN' SCOTSMAN!!!
Shame you didn't mention YIWU special 66 136
Very good point - a special milestone!
😍😍😍😍🥰🤩
I also agree, the cost is a despicable thing about the Flying Scotsman is the cost.
It's not cheap that's for sure...
The Flying Scotsman is awesome, I just don't like the way it's designed. I feel like maybe it could look better with an American British design. China-esque.
I prefer the design without the German smoke deflectors myself!
I like the 465s and the ones that I caught today was 465007 & 922. The contrast between them is interesting it isn't months between the age of the units but years. After I went on one of the newest of the 465s that it's the oldest on the Southeastern fleet a class 707 number 707023 Citybeam took me to Charing Cross. Anything beats the class 345s today
Excellent! It's nice we can still mix between a variety of types of the unites and fittings. Seating-wise they are by far the most comfortable way to travel around SE metals.
Thank you for a very informative video.
Thank you for your comment in return! This one was a beast to put together - nice to see it still getting some traction (no pun intended...)
most depressed class 40 diesel locomotive :( 4:56
Heartbreaking!
Visited the Battlefield line and had a great time. ELR is my local line.
Both on my hitlist, hopefully I'll be able to squeeze them in before the end of the year!
Not bothered by it,find it "vanilla",really. I'd prefer to see a Class 40,but each to their own
Great perspective, thank you! I can totally understand the novelty wearing off after a few runs, especially if the cab isn't the comfiest. Whatever your locomotives, may your future journeys be comfortable!
I drove the 66202 today in dijon. Good video
Thank you! Wishing you well in all your 66 adventures roaming the rails!
Some of the Standard fives had Caprotti valve gear.
Very interesting bits of kit.
Fabulous, can't wait to ride it in two weeks. See you Elizabeth Line! 😊
Thanks for your comment and apologies for my hideously late reply! Hope you enjoyed it!
Been their many times and well worth a visit.
Fantastic line, lots of exciting things going on there!
Hello I just had say this, yes Scotsman can be officially be first steam locomotive to achieve 100mph, but it was not first man made machine to achieve that top or high speed. This cause in 1903 an experiment electric engine in Berlin was recorded to have top speed of 130mph way before Scotsman was conceptualised. I’m personally un-decided on Scotsman as I haven’t got chance see it, but I at moment I do consider it to be money flying pit as I’m just following the crowd. However, I’m sure the day I do see it would slap me in face and make me change my decision.
Thankfully, the IC225's won't be going just yet. After LNER retires them, there's a possibility they might be going to a new open-access intercity operator named Grand Union, but that plan's been temporarily suspended indefinitely, and they're going to use Voyagers and Meridians instead for the time being. But the MK4 coaches will be staying for a good while yet, as they could be transferred to TFW or Chiltern in future.
Wait a minute there like 5 or 4 2mt tanks still around you dirty little diesel
'You dirty little diesel' 😆 Absolutely love that, well played 👏 You're part right, but as I understand it that's the old LMS Ivatt machines as opposed the BR Standards. Shame, would be nice to have more of them around.
Well, i drive the Class 66 here in Belgium for a german freight operator, amongst the fleet of BR186 Traxx, BR193 Vectron, euro 9000 (class99), type77 (belgian loco), ... My opinion is that its interesting that fans are so enamoured with the class. It has a certain romanticism i guess with the noise and the presence, but after you spend 6 or so in the small, unergonomic and poorly ventilted cab with the huge 2 stroke screaming in your ears because you're almost constantly going flat out, the romance quickly fades away. I don't dislike it at all, but i prefer the more modern comfortable electric locomotives from a driver point of view as they are way less tiring and demanding on me as a driver. Can't beat the song of the big 2 stroke though 🤭
Am I the only one who thinks the 66s would sound good with EMD bronze bells?
Interesting, could work!
So sad replacing good working reliable beautiful BR Stock with ugly modern unreliable trains.
Yep!
Honestly, I Also Love The Flying Scotsman, It’s One Of My Favorite UK Steam Locomotives In The World, Along With The A4 Mallard, The 4900 Hall Class 5972 Olton Hall "The Hogwarts Express" The A1 Peppercorn Pacific Tornado 60163, The LMS Black 5’s, The GWR Castle And King Classes, The Merchant Navy Class Clan Line And GWR City Of Truro

The class 91 could probably last another 30 years
It could - here's hoping they get a reprieve with other operators somehow.
MTR?
mtrel.co.uk/
My opinion on the Flying Scotsman is the same for all historical locomotives; those which can be saved should be preserved, even if they eventually become static musuem pieces. After all, it takes a huge amount of time, effort and resources to maintain these machines, meaning that it's understandable that not every part is original. Case in point: Stepney, an A1/A1x "Terrier" locomotive which will be 150 years old next year. Are all the parts on that famous locomotive original: of course not. Does that detract from its history: in my opinion, no. As such, the fact that Flying Scotsman is still operational is an outstanding achievement and I think that, in many ways, it's a blessing that people are more than prepared to ensure that it's preserved for the benefit of everyone here in Britain.
Excellent and very sensible perspective. Love this!
Since you did the top 10 BR Standard class steam locomotives, can you maybe do a top 10 for Great Western, Southern, London Midland and Scottish, and London and North Eastern Railway steam locomotives?
I Literally Want To Go To England Just To See A Class 66
I know this comment was from a few months ago but have you been able to fulfil this dream yet?!
@@trainsonthebrain No Sadly
7:43 BR Green is actually Deep Bronze Green, not Brunswick Green. I believe Brunswick Green was the colour used by The Great Western. A lot of people confuse the two, including me for a long time.
I'll do some further looking into this, thank you for flagging!
The absence of the East Lancs and Watercress lines is unfortunate and flawed the video as a whole.
Thanks for your comment - both are fantastic lines, but this is a Top 10 video and there are always going to be tough decisions to make as to which lines make the grade - you could quite easily argue that taking any of the 10 lines out of the current video would detract from the video moreso.
@@trainsonthebrain It might have been better then to make it a Top 12.
@@elaineblackhurst1509 That’s not really very UA-cam searchable, so unfortunately, probably not.
