What car did I get????!!!!!????
With both the F80 M3 and E36 M3 now sold I wanted to have something else to drive. So, what did I get? Hint: the displacement of both the F80 and E36 combined are the displacement of this vehicle.

1997 BMW M3 E36 Updates- Headliner/Window Tint/Seat Refresh
Переглядів 6292 роки тому
In this video I provide a quick look at a few updates to my 1997 BMW E36 M3/4/5. The headliner needed to be replaced as they are known to sag after so many years. The window tint was done just to help protect the interior from any further sun fade, especially on the rear deck. I've had 8 cars done with Z Tech in Naperville and they are excellent. Cleaning up the front seats was a much needed re...

Can't decide, so I'll take both.
That was my decision as well.
Amazing garage! 1 Z06 would be incredible, but 2? And a CTR? Props, man.
Thank you very much. Lots of hard work seemingly paying off.
Ur hood is open
Yes, thank you. Currently on a batter tender.
That’s sounds very nice. Clean & no backfire
Thank you. All these years later I still love the exhaust note on this car. It is tough to hear via a recording, but it has a bit of a GT3 tone. Overall a great exhaust and built in NH. Thanks for your comment.
Viper?
Great guess! But I got a 2019 Corvette Z06 with a 7-spd. manual.
Disable your rev limiter or get a manual. Won't sound good until at least 3k revs
Thank you, but unfortunately this car was sold quite some time ago.
After a short period with these types of LED tail lights, I prefer the original 997.1 tail lights. I'm all for lighting upgrades that are easily reversible (I never sell my old parts), but I just don't like the string-of-LEDs look. Hopefully Morimoto ends up making the 997 tail lights they promised in their headlight video.
I can appreciate liking the OEM lights better. I, too, keep my parts and these are just so easy to switch back. Thanks for your comment.
I got the same led Depo’s. Very nice!
Wow that sounds good
Nice. I put the same led’s on my ‘07 turbo. Ungraded pccm and exhaust is next. Check my video. Cheers
Thanks for watching. I love the 997 platform and the exhaust is a nice upgrade. I went with SpeedTech and there is a video I posted if interested. I'll check them out!
Great sound for a stock 5.0!
Thanks.
So clean. Looks great!
Thank you very much.
I removed the aftermarket unit and put the same CD43 CD unit in my E34. I like keeping it original.
Thanks for watching! I agree and think the CD43 is the best option for improved sound and a perfect look.
Sexy AF !
just wondering why all m3 front caster are pulled forward the the regular e36?
I don't know for certain, but I can only assume it is due to the different suspension geometry and parts on the M3 vs the standard 3 series.
This sounds amazing. Do you have any videos of it driving??
Thank you! Nothing specific for this exhaust, but in some of my other videos I do have this car doing a drive by in the beginning. Thanks for watching!
Nice!!!!
Thank you! Cheers!
Awesome dude! I’m ordering 2 today! I have 2001 M roadster. This is perfect!
Thanks for watching! I might still have this device and since I sold the car you can have it if you want it. Let me know!

I'm sorry but this isn't a Dodge. 'muricans with their attention seeking will absolutely love it though, anything for a "look at me" moment. It would also ruin performance but no 'murican would care about that if it is loud. But why ruin a perfectly good Porsche though? Get a Dodge or a Chrysler or better yet a Harley to disturb your neighbours, a Porsche isn't really suited for this mod, they'll just think you're gay.
Definitely not as nice as a Dodge. And this was definitely done for the "look at me" moment. It has nothing to do with the fact the exhaust allows the car to perform better, get better MPG, etc. I'm sure 100% of other Porsche owners (all, please back me up here) would agree that I ruined this car with the exhaust. For my sins I will either give the car away or simply torch it in the neighborhood while professing my love for other men watching it burn. Thank you for your well thought out comment and for releasing me from the shackles of heterosexuality.

@@sandman3073 You're welcome. Unfortunately I sold the car and my other M3 (f80) to head in a different direction.
Hi, I just bought your exact car 997.1 Turbo same color. Love the car !! If it's not to much trouble I'd like to know the exact SpeedTech exhaust system your running. Muffler or no muffler and anything else you could tell me. At first I thought the 3.0 might be to obnoxious, but maybe I'm wrong. I'm leaning towards keeping my stock tips and know that might quiet it down a bit, but maybe not. Any insight you can give me would really be a big help. PS- My Depo tail lights just arrived and will be installed on the car this week. Your DIY install video was good stuff, and I'm also an OCD maniac so no one really gets near my cars lol. I also have a 993 split grill running Fister 3 exhaust. I'm hooked !!! Lol Thank you, E
Congratulations on your purchase! I do not think you will be disappointed with it as they are amazing cars. The system I bought is the full 3" X-Pipe design with the 3" dual tips (link to the system below). I do not daily drive the car so I wanted a system a bit louder and I was not/am not disappointed with my selection. I chose the 200-cell cats as well since the exhaust was more for sound and not performance, although it is significantly lighter and supposedly adds around 20 whp but I have not confirmed that. The turbos are audible now and definitely seem to spool faster, which is nice. Whatever you decide I think you will notice a nice improvement over stock, so good luck and enjoy shopping. @@drcars1530 Thank you for the feedback !! I also will not drive this car as a daily. I spoke with John from SpeedTech earlier today and he's a total gentleman and really knows his cars/exhaust. I also want an aggressive sound, but was/am concerned it won't be over the top, tooo loud. I want the car to be heard going through town without it sounding like a jerk if you know what I mean. Lol When you're in 2nd gear going through town/20mph/3K rpm's is it rumbling strong without scaring cats into the trees ?? Don't get me wrong, I do want some bad ass sound. Also how is the drone at 55-70mph ? Sorry for the detailed, somewhat crazy questions. Thanks again !!
@@eddie1426 John is great indeed and NH is my home state so it was a natural fit. John described it as "almost" a GT3 sound and he was not far off. It does sound more exotic and certainly much better than stock. It will definitely not scare cats into trees, especially with hi-flow cats on the car, but it is significantly more aggressive and noticeable outside the cabin. The best way I could describe it is that is sounds "appropriate" for the car. I hope that makes sense. Very little to no drone with the setup I went with. I would 100% purchase the same system again. I hope my responses are of some help. Check these out for some driving sounds. ua-cam.com/video/WUkSecu2VHo/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/WUkSecu2VHo/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/Pg-5kceqptU/v-deo.html
@@drcars1530 Really appreciate your help big time !! One more question….I know you have the 3.0 competition x-pipe full 3.0 FULL 3 Correct ? Did you go with sound level 5 “moderate loud” or “race” OR Sound level 6 “loud” or “loud” RACE. Sorry to pester you, but what I can hear on your videos I like your choice. THANK YOU
@@eddie1426 I'm happy to help. I did not go with the race as I thought it might have been too loud for what I wanted.
Beautiful!
Thank you! It is no longer in my possession as I moved away from the M3s. I'll do a short video on why I sold both the F80 and E36 and went a different route. Thanks for watching!
Sharp car!!!! Nice interior refresh for sure! Looks just as good as the outside
Thank you! It was a great car especially for being 24 years old. I am sad to report that both this M3 and my F80 M3 are now gone. So...time for something new! Thanks for watching.
I'm ordering this today! Thanks for video, easy solution.
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching.
I have that!
Great install! but just maybe as another perspective and not hating bc the lights look good: but I slightly prefer the OEM look unless you can find the more modern LED single light bar taillights like on the 991.2s. To me the disconnected dot leds taillights aren't modern enough now and kinda dates the car, while the OEM look is more timeless cool classic. Just my 2 cents. Awesome turbo and perfect license plate!
Thanks for watching, commenting and sharing your opinion. I don't take it as hating as everyone has and is entitled to their opinion so it's all good! I really like the 3D lights on the 991.2 but I'm not sure anyone makes them for a 997.
@@drcars1530 I've seen a few sellers on eBay with taillights with a more solid strip led around the border of the taillight but still has the led dot design in the middle... either way, its just a slight preference for me as your taillights still look great. Thanks for the vid!
Sadly from 2030 on all combustion cars including classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025 on by reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated central gas station per city or county. Now they want to slow down all the gas station fuel pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute...From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a new kind of crime here, called emissions and smoke crime.:-((
Enjoy what we can, while we can. Thanks for watching and for the comment!
Absolutely disgusting practices by the world, instead of going after the real polluters they're chasing after cars. A gen 1 raptor can drive across the USA and product less pollution than a freaking weed wacker that runs for 30 minutes. Let alone chasing down the top 10 polluters....which are all ships transporting goods, burning the LOWEST quality oil possible.

time to move!
Not true
As of what i have hears, Porsche is developing synthetic man-made fuel and more efficient methods of combustion to save ICE for the 718 and the 911 models. Also a while back ferrari had also announced that they will never switch to fully electric cars but are planning to build an electric car by 2025, so we mostly see electric and hybrid ferraris in the future. Lamborghini however has declared that they are going to fully electric by 2030 which is something im against. Like why would anyone want a lamborghini that does not have a v10 or a v12. also supercars are meant to be drives an enjoyed. to me 0-60 times and Nürburgring laps are nonsense, they are only used to sell cars but really dont matter as we drive them. imo in an ideal world all performance cars like (sports cars, muscle cars, supercars etc) should be gas powered and the grocery getters can be electric which is better since it would make them more practical)

Awesome video and upgrade. Looks fantastic and will be upgrading the rear lights on my 997 TT.
Thanks for watching and for the positive comment! The upgrade is very easy and definitely gives the car a slightly more modern look. I always like mods where you can easily revert to stock without any damage or long-term effects to the vehicle.
The shop could not install a new bolt? I know they rather sell you two new strut mounts.
Not likely. The bolts are not threaded in but permanently attached to the base of the hat. More importantly, it just made sense to replace them since I am not sure when they were last replaced. It was a fun project with low cost and high benefit. Thanks for watching and the comment!
This is literally the exact thing I want to do. :) Got any suggestions on where to locate this model of head unit?
It is a very easy change and very worth while. I found the best place to find options was on eBay. Good luck!
so you showed your porsche when the actual strut mount change happened. Great. I learned nothing from this. The issue is the top nut tightening. Can't do it while in a car because it is offset and can't do it outside because the strut shaft keep spinning.
My omission(s) are not intentional and just having some fun working on my car(s) and trying to share some info! Thanks for watching.

All that for just some simple strut mounts... ugh better you than me! But thanks for the detailed video.
I know! It would be so much easier if they were somehow accessible from the top, but I understand why that is not possible from an engineering/practicability standpoint. Now that I've done it it would be so much easier to do in about half the time. Thanks for watching!

Not bad, right? It was a great car and I wish Infiniti still built cars that were at least as engaging as the G37. I had a Q50 Red Sport 400 and sold it after only 6 months because although it was quick it was just boring to drive. The G37 had/has way more personality. Thanks for watching!
