CHANGE IS GOOD + Black & White Street
#streetphotography #ricohgriii #ricohgr
I'M MAKING SOME CHANGES 'round here!
For a long time now, I've struggled to upload consistently on UA-cam. I've located the problem. EDITING. Editing takes up TOO MUCH TIME for me!
So, to share more of my journey frequently, I will edit less and upload more. Yup, that's it. I believe this is the best way for me and this channel to grow!
This new series will be called "OFF SCRIPT". Today is the first episode. We will be speaking about the benefits of shooting in Black and White. Please tune it!
Below are some of my goals for this series:
1. MINIMIZE VIDEO EDITING...
Less video editing means more ideas and experiences come to life.
An 8-9 min video should not take 2/3 days to create and another 4 weeks to upload. Editing can at times rob you from being vulnerable and present.
2. CONFRONTING THE FEAR...
Of NOT making a "high production" video with every upload, with every topic.
I'd rather have upload consistency to build trust, connection with you, the photo community that supports me.
3. PUBLIC SPEAKING...
Improve my public speaking/ "on-camera" speaking by having more clarity of thoughts, minimize the use of umms and ahhhs, likes etc..
=================
WHAT WILL CONTINUE
- Structure is still important
- Broll still serves a purpose at times
- More talking head
TOPICS COVERED
- Street Photography
- Topics outside of street photography:
DJing, beats making, coffee and fitness
CONCLUSION
Share more of my personality, likes and passions in and outside of photography.
EPISODE 001 - OFF SCRIPT
JULY 9th, 2024 -
Today's topic:
SHOOTING IN Black & White IN CAMERA
In camera bw is different than post - bw editing.
Here are 3 reasons i'm slowly shooting more bw than colour...
point ONE: BW helps you tell a story with more clarity since you are not distracted with all these colours around you
point TWO: We don't see in BW so its almost like BW is almost like a fantasy world.
point THREE: shooting in camera in BW shifts your mindset to seek bw moments.
BONUS TIP:
If you're unsure of shooting in bw on the day, shoot in RAW+ JPEG.Now you have both options.💪🏽😊
Black & White or Colour? What do you prefer?
This is streetsoul.

HARSH LIGHT Street Photography- 5 Tips
Переглядів 95121 день тому
#streetphotography #ricohgriii #ricohgr Why do photographers hate harsh light? Well, mainly because the images produced won't be as "warm" or "majestic" as a classic sunrise/sunset image. The sun is just too high in the sky to make moody results. It will take work, reps, and patience, my friends! There are, however, many benefits to shooting midday, and I do list off a few in this video BUT the...

    Love the new format! Genuine words, thoughts and feelings that flow with sweet human quality....far better than a polished production. It feels more real...as if you are right here. In the long term I find that B&W images have more staying power. Color has a buzz. B&W strikes me with more subtle depth. Just my 2 cents! Great as always!☺

    Oh man. We need a better workflow. I'm glad you're finding your way through this, because as a comparison, let me explain my process right now (not that I'm some amazing UA-camr). 1.) I go on the photowalk and shoot what I hope are interesting. 2.) I come home and download the video from my Go3S or whatever it's called. 3.) I drag the raw and jpgs over to the laptop 4.) I open iMovie and drag the video in as a "bed" 5.) I go to epidemicsound and grab some music 6.) trim trim trim 7.) slip in the photos on top of the video. 8.) Put the music bed down. 9.) Make a cover on pixlr 10.) Upload Off script is a *great* plan. We don't need the polish. We need you. Just be you.

    You could print, show the print instead of embedding it into the video. And those prints could be for sale. Street photogaphy to me was initially in BW. Because all of the masters were taking it as bw for obvious reasons. I just followed their time with film Leica M4-2 (Canada made) and bw single grade fiber based papers from seventies (thanks to Burlington camera and to one of my supporter). BW makes it more obvious on dividing living creatures and else. I did it for decade. Life changed, I quit film, street photography and just goofing around with different digital cameras. Digital is best at color. BW... not as good (visually) as on bw film, darkroom prints. Doing BW from RAW is the same as developing C-41 film in Rodinal. Close, but no cigar. But some regular digital cameras are more better with bw. Original Ricoh GRD has some reputation for it. Leica M8 as well. Some iPhones as well, if I'm not mistaken. After so many years with bw film, I think monochrome digital cameras makes sense. Film is bw and so should be the sensor. If you know it is bw, you shoot as bw.

    • @tahaphoto
      @tahaphoto 10 днів тому

      Kostya! I hope you write a book with all your stories and insight into street photography. I truly appreciate your perspective. I agree with you on the SENSOR having to be MONOCHROME, if RIcoh ever does this, I'm completely onboard. I want to shoot more film, I really do. I hope the more chill format will help me out at achieving this. I have a few rolls that I will use next week. Any reccos for film stocks you swear by for BW? I like Tri-X, JCH and Kentmere 400 so far. Keep sharing! We all appreciate it, my friend!

    • @kostyafedot551
      @kostyafedot551 10 днів тому

      @@tahaphoto Thank you, Taha! BW film is variable depending on the mood. ISO100 will give most crisp and classy look. But it requires things to be static. For walking I used mostly ISO400 films at the box speed during "summer" light. For "winter" light, well, absence, I pushed same ISO400 films at 1600 and 3200 ISO. This was adding muddiness. But must moody-muddy film I used was TMAX3200. It is the bw film on its own. And doesn't only ment for the darkness. If you have 3200 rated film, use regular color filters to bring shutter speed down. x2 green filter before the lens will bring ISO to 800. I used mostly Kentmere 400 for the box speed. And HP5+ for pushing.

    I’m more into color, to be honest. B&W is great if your focus is on light and shadow, tones etc., but I’ve never really agreed with the idea that color distracts. That’s just me - to each their own… BTW I like the candid video format 🤙🏼

I feel colour will always have a special place for me especially when I think back to my childhood. Vintage 80's colours always get me. Vintage Toronto shaped me. I find this topic very intresting, particularly as an amateur photographer with limited time to go out with my camera. Typically, I end up taking photos when the sun is already high, which presents a challenge. I'm still honing my skills, and I admire Your ability to capture stunning, saturated colors, especially reds, in such bright, harsh light. My struggle lies in dealing with colours that the strong sun fades or that appear overdone and artificial when I attempt to enhance the contrast during post-processing.

    • @tahaphoto
      @tahaphoto 14 днів тому

      My friend! Thanks for sharing your street photography truths.🙏🏽 I agree with you. Harsh light poses different problems for everyone. Tbh, finding moments simply comes mostly by being out there. Good light, bad light or in-between. The act of being outside puts you ahead of most ppl. Have you tried staying put at your "ideal location"? It's almost like you're controlling the environment so when an interesting subject does enter your frame there are fewer surprises. As I was saying in the video, Auto-white balance can be your friend so you can focus on the moment not the light. Oh, and try shooting raw + jpeg. This way, you can tweak at home as well as try out a recipe or filter in real time. This also teaches you exposed the light. Thanks for the kind words. Hit me up with any other thoughts, I'll help if I can.🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽

      I only shoot in bright ass sun light lol. Its FREE, no electricity or studio required :D. If you are doing faces find shade, thats all. You capture so much more detail in bright sunlight, that's why people who shoot wildlife and birds like to shoot at midday you get sharp and crisp details. People are pretty ugly thats why we have to hide the extreme details with softer light 😆😆. Everything else looks fantastic when sun is at 45 degree angle mid day ,just have to find the right angle thats all.

    I actually do this with my Sony a6500 except with the instax wide printer. I do own the actual side camera but I don’t wanna bring it around lol. I tried It in Oahu years ago. Fun but eh lol, it was raining a ton and I was taking photos with both my Sony and instax while my pregnant wife waited in the car. Further context we had to wait several hours till our flight for Los Angeles and we had to check out by 11pm. All in all it was a blast. Highly recommend the wide printer

      @@tahaphoto how do you edit these photos? i am a new photographer and i'm just 16 years old i want to edit these photos but i dont know how to, please help me out.

      @asmigaur1406 editing your own photos takes being curious. I cool hack when starting out is to edit one image with a handful of different filters. Each filter will give your image a different feel. Once you find a filter you like start editing like that. The basics are contrast, highlights, shadows and saturation. Move your dials to the left and right (- or +) until you get the hang of it. Any editing app will work. Snapseed is great and is a free app. Google it! Hope this helps!!!!🙏🏽✌🏽

    Hey, thanks for uploading the video on this model. I'm thinking of buying it but I have this silly question in my mind, how can we transfer the clicked photos into, say, a computer or a smartphone? And how did you show the photos in the video, like does it come with a port with which we can connect a cable and transfer the photos? But it doesn't make sense since it's a film camera? Please help me out here.

      Great question! Thanks for asking. It's also important to always ask questions we don't know the answer to. 🙏🏽 THE ANSWER TO YOUR QUESTION: 1. Once you finish shooting all the photos on your roll of film, you'll need to rewind the roll. (Instructions on youtube). 2. Find a camera story that scans and develops film. Google a place close to you. 3. Once they scan and develop they will email you the photos from that roll. 4. You will now have jpegs that you can post online.😊 I hope that helps! Let me know.
