    We have an Anatolian Shepherd, Caspen! Our son brought him home, * he has been with us for 7 yrs. He does not bother anything in the house❤ He does mot ear anything that has fallen on the floor! If you put a plate of our food on the floor, he will not touch it. Our son trained him to "leave it". He does love to dig when he is bored. He barks at people out for their morming/evening walks, or kids on skateboards. But, he is an anxious pup due to an early experience as a puppy with 4th of July fireworks being set off in the neighborhood. Very awful for him...we have tried most everything, & now have to medicate him before a thunderstorm or fireworks.😮 He is a very picky eater! He is very lo ving, loyal & stubborn! He also Sheds!! A Lot! I can imagine what it would be without him😢, & it would be very lonely😢 He is my best friend!❤❤❤

    I made the horrendous and costly mistake of adding osmocote to all of my garden containers, everything is burning up and dying. I’ve since learned that granular fertilizer gets WAY TOO HOT in containers and burns the roots. So disheartened.

      Awesome analogy. Exactly, Anatolians make decisions for themselves. They make awesome farm dogs to watch over livestock or even just property. They are bred to be independent. They are not submissive at all and they are not food motivated. They do not take orders. Anatolians know what you want and take it into consideration, but they do not obey-they see you as an equal. I love the breed and Noah works out perfectly for our situation. I just try to warn those who are looking for an alternative German Shepherd this is not it.☺

If you kill her they could swarm. Or if shes left outside they might go some place else. Also get used to using your hands to pick up the frames . It more secure to pick up and turn.

    HISTORY OF THE MAGNOLIA FIG: It was originally called Madonna (when imported from England)... Was mistakenly sold as Magnolia (by a Texas nursery)... Was renamed "officially" to Brunswick (by the English nurseries)... So Brunswick is the current "correct" name of the variety or type. Madonna, Brunswick and Magnolia names are described in Condi't book on fig. According to Rogers, the Brunswick “was introduced in the early days of Miller under the name of Madonna, which ought never to have been changed; but on the accession of George I, it was named as above.” Lindley used the name Brunswick in preference to Madonna because it was the better known of the two. The name “Magnolia” appeared in a publication by Thomas Affleck in 1854 as a synonym of Jaune, a French fig. Sometime previously, a tree peddler had gone through parts of Texas offering magnolia trees for sale; when planted, it was found that the trees produced figs rather than magnolia leaves and flowers, hence the name of the variety. Van Velzer stated that Brunswick had many pet names, among them Magnolia, Hanover, and Madonna. The street peddler was selling magnolia trees, but those are actually fig trees. So they named those trees are "magnolia" fig trees. They were actually the same as the Brunswick.

    • @SherrisPlants

      I planted a whole bunch of varieties. The Magnolia ( brunswick) is by far my favorite. LSU purple comes back for 3 years now with no figs? Kadota ( possible to be called Texas everbearing) figs grow huge and you get quite a few figs but they seam less flavorful but edible. This year I am trying Chicago hardy and Olympian. I planted so many and these are the only ones that stood up to neglect in the south.

    It reproduces by pollen explosion, spreading the pollen as far as possible. This is why it is nicknamed "artillery" weed. The pollen is ejected in tiny, repetitive smoke-like puffs. It's pretty cool to witness. Unfortunately, this is also why it is considered an invasive species in North America. If you have trouble growing this, you may want to find another hobby that doesn't include working with plants! It literally reproduces like rabbits, as prolific as gunfire! When I saw people were actually buying it for a house plant, I was flabbergasted!! I can't get rid of it fast enough, yet others want it as an addition to their collection 🤦🏼‍♀️😁 nice video, more informative than most of the others I've seen.

    • @SherrisPlants
      @SherrisPlants 6 місяців тому

      The artillery weed does not sprout up anywhere, except the well watered potted plants, here. I do not think it likes the dry sand. I do like it as a living mulch in those plants because taller weeds like dog fennel try to creep in the pots and they are completely unsightly. Yes, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

      I do want to make like a public upick demonstration garden. That was more my desire than having the nursery. Maybe just selling the plants that I demo. So everyone can take a little piece home.

    I literally want to take a road trip to buy one of everything! Your plants look so big, healthy and green. Most nurseries only sell tiny plants but yours are so full and mature

    • @SherrisPlants
      @SherrisPlants 8 місяців тому

      I have decided to work more on the public gardens, I wish to provide. I sort of eventually like to be a destination. Generally speaking most nurseries are selling allot of their plants. So they are constantly getting new plants in. Our plants keep being repotted into bigger pot because they are here so long.

    Regarding your watering trays you thought were a good idea - with my closet seedlings what I do is I have them all in those foil trays. I water from the bottom and then I come back an hour later and I just dump all the water out. Doesn't take too much time and seemed to work really well! Can't be prevented with a hurricane though but maybe just take the trays away when hurricanes are incoming.

      Most times it is keeping them wet in 100 degree weather is a problem but when there is an abundance of water it can go the other way

    • @shiannewiles
      @shiannewiles 8 місяців тому

      Yeah I keep my closet at 90 degrees and use the foil to reflect the grow lights as much as possible. Took a while to figure out the best watering solution in my mini jungle closet lol but I think I got it

    Such a good specimen, beautiful dog! They need a senior to learn from, they dig holes and lie in them this is what they do out in the open valleys at nights to stay warm during the nightwatch, not ideal to raise on its own, but still it's a majestic breed, when those amber eyes look into you, they see your soul!

      @@SherrisPlants He is better off with a small pack protecting sheep, biting will never cease that is how they practice their fighting/killing skills, they have instincts to kill and feed on small birds and rodents too (that is how they go by when the shepherds leave them alone with the flock in the mountain valleys for several days at a time in Turkey) so your chickens are at danger..but I see you understood pretty much everything about the breed and the situation you're in, you'll decide what is best...your dog is close to a pure Kangal, he shows all the qualities of the phenotype, Broad chest, head shape, I particularly loved his coat, his lions mane..obviously the coat colour is american, I've never seen gingerish brown coat, and you guys over there are selectively breeding the tame timid ones I reckon, he should be showing teenage tantrum male agression like nothing else about these times? Huge respect for you to not put him on a leash, it tears my heart apart to see people trying to turn them into golden retrievers..for thousands of years, these dogs lived and died almost never being on a leash..a few days in their whole life I would say, so occasionally..

      @@bilalaturca We do put him on a leach for about 20 minutes a day while gathering the chickens. I also keep this practice to keep him used to being leashed so if someone comes to service the house or comes on the property we have a way to keep things smooth. We try to keep all of our animals as free and happy as practical.

      @@danii3338 I do but I shut of shipping and only sell locally for now. I tried shipping online and it did not work out. I will revisit that in the future when I grow specific plants with the intent on selling them online. We even have a neat variety named "Major Woo". It is so sweet and love your intent on purchasing. Thank you so much, but only local sales for now.

    I love watching your videos Sherri, my husband and I are starting our own homesteading journey and it's so helpful and inspiring to watch other people follow their dreams. I love how you talked about finding God in the garden because it's the perfect place to remember that He's in control of all things even in the midst of the craziness that goes on in this world. Me at my best efforts, I'm still a sinner and my righteousness can never make amends for my sin. But God sending His Son Jesus Who was holy and blameless to pay for my sin gives me a way back to Him. Jesus' righteousness stands FOR me in place of mine. In spite of what Adam and Eve lost, I can now through Jesus reconnect with God, and it's beautiful to do that in the garden.

    Make sure with elderberries you have two different kinds of the same species. They need to cross pollinate to produce fruit in a very specific way otherwise you won't get any fruit.

    Shipping all things is tough and honestly a lot of people out there aren't honest and try to get things for free. One thing for your future to keep in mind - UPS is cheaper for bigger boxes. I use Amazon prime boxes with labels that say "please reuse box to save the trees!" Which had a lot of positive feedback from customers in the past.

      @SherrisPlants 9 місяців тому

      The problem I find with ups is convenience. I have to go to their location in most instances. I do like the idea of the save the tree label. For right now I think I am going to halt online shipping and work on getting smaller plugs just for shipping. Thanks for the suggestion

    I adopted a female Anatolian from Animal Control which was only a year old and had already had two owners. The rescue had no information on why she was relinquished to the shelter. I discovered she had no training, but was very easy to train. She was a play biter, but she stopped that when she realized it was not something that was okay with me. She has turned into a really lovely animal. I live in the high desert and I also have a greyhound so the three of us take a daily hike in the hills behind my house in the early morning. She loves hunting jack rabbits and other rodents. She also will open boxes that come from UPS or FedEx and does this usually when I have to go somewhere for the day without her and the other dog. She lies in the yard surveying the property until about 9 or 10 at night. I have trained her not to bark, just to let out one woof to let me know there is something that concerns her. She has most of the same mannerisms of Noah, so they are very consistent to the breed. She likes to dig, but I have let her know there are certain places that are okay and others that are not. Everything Sherri says about Noah is consistent with the breed and they are not a good choice for an inexperienced dog owner or for just a pet. They have to have an environment that satisfies their ancient genetic code as a Livestock Guardian and a responsible and knowledgeable owner/trainer.

      It sounds like you have a lovely relationship with your dog. We get closer and closer with Noah everyday. We have lots of animals in our lives so we keep working with Noah and his behavior around them. I have seen him break up fights between the chickens. We are slowly allowing him around the birds more and more. He knows we do not like him to chase the chickens. He chooses not to, not because he is their protector but because he knows we do not like it. I see lots of people trying to put them in a household with children because they think they are guard dogs like German shepherds. I see allot going to the pound lately. They are also quite expensive to feed and keep up on shots. I have thought of adopting 1 or 2 but I do not think I could afford it right now. Have a great life with your dogs and thank you for stopping by and taking the time to comment. I do notice how some Anatolian shepherd owners love their breed as my videos about Noah are the most watched

    I believe every puppy has his or her own personality my puppy is really calm loves attention not so much playful with toys or us but loves to play with our border collie blue healer mix. He loves treats and really good with learning new tricks so far just the basics. we keep him in a lot but that's because our neighbors can't be trusted don't want to have an accident. he's mainly for guard dog as well as a play mate for our female mix. He does love to chase our chicken and ducks but that's all he does is chase never attack. So that's a good thing. Love your dog such a pretty boy.

      It sounds like you are enjoying your dog quite a bit. The few times our has actually caught a chicken he sat there and licked it. He is a Chicken Licker, lol. Noah accidently killed a baby turkey. The energy really goes up with babies, so we keep working with him on that. They are wonderful dogs in the right home.
