Yes, I believe the blue Uniden over black Grant was the final version. I picked one up from a local distributor in late '84. Nice look at the domestic family tree, and what a monkey wrench it was going from 4-pin mic jack to 5-pin, then back to 4-pin. My favorite is the President Grant export with band selections. Tnx for showing 'em off!
Did not realize there were so many grants thanks for the video 390 wagonmaster that is one that I've been looking for didn't know there were three versions of it
Grants are my favorite CBs. I have the newest one you talked about - Blue Uniden logo above the channel knob and "grant" below. It also has a yellow-ish tint to the plastic screen that covers the display. I'm not sure if that's stock or if a previous owner made a mod somehow. Aside from the NPC mod and an unlocked clarifier, mine is otherwise stock. Thanks for sharing your collection!
Let me ask you this serious question, Why are President not making new version of the HR2510 ??. Honestly I really need to know, watching from Jamaica west Indies !!.
@@390WagonMaster Oh really, So how comes they make all kind of other uniden / President radios over the years, So wat happen to the famous HR2510 ??. How can I get in touch with Uniden / President for an answer ??. Watching from Jamaica west Indies !!.
Hi 390, I am and will always be a huge fan of the President Grant Export and the Super Star GR Export. All the other export radios come expanded far beyond the capabilities of most antennas. 120 channels plus the "A" channels will work within the band widths of the K40's the Wilson' 1000's, the Sirio 5000's, the famous 102" whips and a few others. I totally understand if you want to free band on a specific frequency (where you can tune an antenna to), however to be able to just dial in a frequency (channel) and not heat up your finals the Grant and GR Exports are money in the bank!!!!
I've got a 3 button 858 grant. I cleaned and re-capped and aligned it. I really like it my only problem is it has a power microphone but doesn't need one with the input gain circuitry. It ends up over driving it. I need a good regular 4 pin mic but can't seem to find one.
I used to sell these to our local log truckers. They sounded great and lasted longer than OEM stock mics. The picture shows cb microphone but it is a Kalibur mic. I own several as these are my weapon of choice. www.wearecb.com/cb-mic.html
My thoughts....We need to put the "Kabosh" on the FCC. I take it that stack of Riggs are in your private collection?. How do those Unidens compare to the Cobra 148 GTL? Great video!!!!
I think the President and Cobra 148 were very close RX wise. Some would say the 148 was better.. IDK If I still had a working 148 I would fire it up and do a A&B test.
So, about the time the 858 fazed out and the 8719PLL fazed in, Would the Presedent AR series be concidered "global sales/distributed"? The AR-144 was simulor but not the same, odd ball PLL and audio chip. I think the AM only was the AX? and the AR was the AM-ssb unit. I had the AR 144... butt kickin radio it was.... Carry on good Sir 2UDX15Eleven7 N.Colorado
Here in Australia we got the Uniden AX-144, they are 40ch AM + SSB, MB8719 PLL, but not too easy to mod for extras, the PLL is somehow wired differently to Grants, Grant XL's, 148GTL's etc etc. We didn't get AR-144's, I think they look identical to AX-144, but maybe they used a different PLL. The AX-14 was 40ch but only AM, no SSB.
@390WagonMaster not sure, I had acquired the AR-144 from my Mom. Was in her mobile for a while but wasn't used much. I'd say bought new in box mid 80s. At the time nobody figured out how to expand it's PLL. This was also when the 8917 hit, SuperStar 3900 was the thing to have or the 8917 148gtl $$$ then. For my first 8917 pll radio was the Courier Galaxy 5, black faced, not the gold. Never seen another black faced. Was a really cheap copy of the SS3900. What can I say, I was 9 or so. Lol mowed lawns for that radio.... 🤣
So yes I did say that, I like some of the 858s more than the new PLL 2816 8719 boards. A few manufacturers were all about cost and low per board price ( Realistic) and those rigs would have low adjacent channel rejection. Some companies would request the boards be populated with more or better parts, that was more cost but gave better radio performance (Robyn, Pearce Simpson, Cobra, President) Compare a TRC449 to a Robyn 510D, same board but different board population. This is IMHO.

Great Video.. the Uniden boards in those are they same as a TRC=457?
There was a President McKinley that I had owned and if I can remember it looked like these President Grants...

I think the 144 was close to the Cobra 146GTL. (Killer little rig)
What PLL was swapped to get channels? swap in a 2816 or something. Hihi

i thought you said the 858 grant was the best on ssb?
