How to Extract Broken Brake Caliper Guide Pins (BMW/X5/E70/N55)
The video shows how to remove broken guide pins from a brake caliper mounting bracket in a BMW X5. The process could be used for extracting broken guide pins/bolts for any other car as well. Please remember the most important thing is to use the right size extraction set (bit and tap) and the proper drill bit (EXTRA HARD). The black drill bits and the titanium bits DO NOT work!!!

Turn out BMW's, especially once they age, are not water proof..after-all melting Chicago snow can be dangerous! If you are experiencing door lock/unlock (Comfort Access) issues on more then one door- the likelihood of blown fuse#28 is high. However, the root cause of a blown fuse needs to be found. It could usually be a door that is not locking or un-locking as it should. You should replace proper fit door lock actuator otherwise just replacing the fuse would only buy you sometime. thanks

    My 2010 X5M threw out this code (2nd time) today. Drove for an hour, got to the stop lights, engine started to idle pretty rough and then the engine malfunction light came on. I parked and turned off the vehicle, then turn it on again, and it goes away. Weird! I have not scan for codes yet, but I will follow these steps to see if it will fix the issue. Thanks for posting this video.

    If the actuator has to be replaced anyway, you can drill into the actuator to sever the brake cable, use an 8mm drill bit and drill into the threaded portion where the cable would be on the same side as the electrical connection

    I had the same issues as you all, message on screen, dining warning, red and orange brake light continuously on the dash. I tried all the fixes mentioned here and on youtube with no success. Then purely by chance and frustration I had the car in drive crawling very slowly and I simply turned the engine off which stpped the car suddenly and automatically engaged the parking brake. When I turned it back on NO WARNINGS, NO DINGING. NO ISSUES. Everything had reset itself and is working perfectly!!!!! That was 2 weeks ago and it is still working as it should. I can't go back and do it again but maybe someone would like to try and confirm or deny? Good luck as I know how frustrating this issue is.

    I don't usually comment on videos however i need to express my gratitude! This error popped up in the week and this weekend it got a lot worse. I stumbled across this video and went straight to the trunk and low & behold i found the pool of water. Followed the same steps and now the error is gone and a plus that my power tail gate is functional again! Thank you so much from me here in South Africa🙏🏼

    Thank you for sharing this video. We also have an 18 Navigator Reserve L, and it is bouncing like this. Trouble is, I’ve had a two separate Lincoln dealers check, they say it’s fine…I’ve also had two separate ford dealers check, and they say it’s fine. I’m too the point that I will just replace them myself since I cannot get any assistance from the dealers to diagnose this issue. Hopefully you were able to clear the trouble.

    Hello, I think I have a problem with the abs modules, no errors or lights come on, the symptom is and when I turn on the windshield above 120kmh it stops, losing around 20kmh, could it really be the abs module? When I deactivate drybranking through coding it doesn't help me but I feel the car is a little stuck at the speed level, thanks for the answer, hugs from Portugal

    Just changed the water pump And thermostat in my 2013 Beamer today.. WAS A BITCH!!! They are pure hell to get out especially the pump!! Mechanic wanted $2600.00 to change both so we saved allot of money.. took 7 hits that’s with bleeding the coolant also.. if you’re gonna do it just be prepared for one hell of a long day and a very frustrating day. Trust me.

    Our sister hit a mailbox and didn't do much damage. Just messed up rent right headlight and fender some but it's a 08 x5 and it keeps saying Parking brake malfunction and keeps putting the suv into neutral. Didnfine driving home with it but went to go get tires put on it and it started doing that and we've tried resetting everything with no luck.

    We had the exact same issue occur after changing a rear differential at 100,000 miles. Immediately the entire vehicle started bouncing and rocking and vibrating over every tiny little bump on the smoothest of roads. I have a feeling that it has something to do with the sensors because the adaptive suspension uses sensors in order to be able to tell how to control this the ride over bumps and that's supposed to have something to do with the front camera but our actual parking sensors are having alert problems and I think that maybe it involves those cameras as well. I'm not totally sure but I will try to get back to this chat after I figure out what's going on as I'm taking it into the dealer to continue to investigate the problem.

      you can do it yourself, otherwise any local mechanic can do it if its the same issue. BMW dealership will probably charge more to diagnose first.

    Hello Guys, I got this BMW X5 2012 xdriv35i E70 last year and I am trying to keep it for long term. I have been dealing with a code : 28A0 ( Air Mss System, plausibility: Calculated air masses in the air intake system not plausible) for long time. This is was has been done to the car related or not to the issue: Order: RELATED: DMLT VALVE replaced Purge valve replaced charge pipe replaced with FTP Valve cover and other parts replaced. OEM TMAP/MAP Sensor replaced (intake and charge pipe) MAF sensor cleaned and new gasket installed Superjet pump vacuum hose replaced Air filter box gasket replaced. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ NOT RELATED: Current Miles: 110.000 Oil filter and gaskets MANN, Oil 5w30 Liquid Moly , air filter MANN , drain plug and gasket - changed every 5k miles. PREMIUM 93-94 octane fuel (Delta, Shell, Sunoco) Brakes pads , rotors and sensor Parking brake actuator Spark Plugs and Coils Oil filter housing gasket and mickey mouse replaced, coolant flush Transfer case fluid changed Differentials fluid changed. Transmission fluid and filter changed. Heater control valve radiator cap steering wheel cap L/R Mirror glasses Right interior temperature sensor HVAC AUC Sensor Exterior and Interior HVAC Filters Parts supplier: FCP EURO (OE/OEM) ------------------------------------------------------------------------- I have been doing some smoke tests and this is what I found and Fixed. Charge pipe leaking: FIXED Maf sensor leaking: FIXED Map Sensor leaking: FIXED Superjet pump vacuum line leaking: FIXED Air box filter gasket leaking: FIXED Valve cover gasket leaking: FIXED Map Sensor leaking: FIXED besides that I can't find more vacuum leaks with my smoke teste, I don't see any smoke coming out anywhere. What else can I do ? Something also weird is that the EVAP Monitor never gets done. Car runs perfect , no issues , no bad idle, not knocking (just some times you can feel a small misfire but the RPM does not go crazy. The light and code triggers when the car is being drive at constantly low RPM (1000rpm-1500rpm) and around speed of 25-35mph. If avoid those situation I won't get the light but I will get the code sometimes as pending. I am tired of this code ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Some Live data: Short trim fuel are usually at 0% Long term fuel are usually at -2,3% Short trim sensor 2 is usually at 99.2% O2 b1s1 is usually at : 1.4 - 1.5 O2 b1s2 is usually at : 0.7 Intake manifold pressure after throttle valve: 13.93 psi Intake pipe vacuum before throttle valve (charging pressure - setpoint value) : 14.65 psi Intake pipe vacuum before throttle valve: 14.63 psi Charge air temperature: 115.7 F ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Please let me know what else can I do to diagnostic and fix this code, It is the only code that the car has. Thank you so much!

      I am in a similar boat as you with a P112F code. Which seems related to your code. I have seen that the valve cover could leak internally. The crankshaft seals could leak and there is a Tank Ventilation Valve or Purge Valve adaptation procedure. I wonder if that is what you need. ​@shubobtv also see comment.

      I resolved my issue , I replaced some parts but I think what resolved it was a exhaust leak in a exhaust connection, where the cat connects with the exhaust . I wrapped with some exhaust leak repair tape and I don’t have any more codes anymore

      @valdesadam I got my issue fixed and car is now running tight as a nut again! It was the turbo pressure valve that was the issue that was causing boost pressure loss. Got the solenoid pipes replaced to for safety but after spending a very large amount of money fixing issues car is sweet again. I was so close to selling it as I was fed up.

    My 2018 has always been pretty boat like since I got it around at 24k miles, always saw it as a land yacht. Still yes when your shock bleeds it's time to change, but I'm sure these shocks are more complex than a typical Expedition. I think it's wired up. I have no idea what it does but I hopefully just need to jack it up but with struts like this I'm sure I'll need to compress the huge ass spring to get the stocks out.

      right, these are wired up. I know the compression piece is a nightmare, otherwise should be an easy install. I checked Rockauto has the same OE shocks at much better prices then the dealership, you may want to check before ordering.

    I am not able to solve this problem from 4 years in my bmw x5 2010 n55 e70. Coils, plugs, injectors, pressure pump, fuel pump, many things replaced. Car is mis firing and vibrating, any solution please

      sound like you have done the obvious stuff. Did you read INPA to see which particular cylinder (s) is misfiring? You could also run a head gas kit leak test to make sure that's not an issue. Hard to tell without exact fault codes but may be worth running a cylinder leak detection test (compression test) to rule out any physical damage

      Have you checked your car with a bi directional scanner tool? Check live data test on DPF soot mass, live data on back pressure sensor. A healthy DPF should show zero soot mass and the back pressure sensor should show 10 mbar at idle. Back pressure sensor should show 50 mbar at 3000 rpm. If your soot mass is increasing at live data and the back pressure is over 200-350 mbar at 3000 rpm, then our DPF is glogged. our symptones with vibrating and misfiring, does the car stop suddently? I had the same symptons with my car. The DPF was glogged and back pressure was over 300 mbar. I cleaned m DPF by disconnect the back pressure hose and spray in 400 ml wurth diesel particalulate cleaner. REconnect the back pressure hose. Waite 30 minutes. Start engine with 2000 rpm for 3 minutes while reading live data on DPF and live data on back pressure. It should decrease rapidly to zero and 10 mbar. Delete all fault codes. Reset DPF. Take a long trip on high way at 100km at 3000 rpm constanly. I did this and my car is healthy and accellerate as a new car. Have you checked your throttle body? Is it clean and not messed up with a load of oil and carbon? Have you checked if your intake manifold is glogged up with layers of carbon oil? My car has passed 160000 km, I had limb mode, drive train errors. I took out my throttle body and intake manifold and cleaned it. I replaced my turbo air charger hoses too, and clean the intercooler as well. Now my car works like a new car. You should do the same: Have you replaced all your old vacuum hoses?

      bro you may need to find the exact alarm using INPA software, only then you would know what's going on? It could be a misfire due to spark plug/ignition coil etc but you would only know for sure if you know the fault code. You can also look at the Turbo vacuum hose as shown in my vide. Good luck!

      When you have engine light malfunction, the car tells you it has seriously problem. I like using a modern bi directional car diagnostic like Autel or Launch X431 with blue tooth. Run a Dpf check for soot mass, run test for backpressure sensor to check how glogged your DPF is. I am quite sure our DPF need a cleaning. You have a quite old car I am quite sure your Intake manifold need a complete cleaning. Overtime the intake manifold will get a thick carbon layer which prevent Map and ECU to work perfectly. Unscrew map sensor on top of intake manifold, if map sensor is very glogged of carbon it is not able to suck up to 4 bar oxygen to mix with diesel. I had the same error and engine shaking. After cleaning the DPF and reset DPF. You will get 250000km after reset DPF. My car runs much better now. My intake manifold is very glogged with carbon and oil. Next week I wil do a full cleaning of my intake manifold. I am going to check all 4 glow plugs as well and replace them. The service on DPF and intake manifold is very expensive at car workshop. If you can do all the servics by yourself you will a lot of money. I wish you good luck:-))

    duuuuude!!!!! your tip with the rubber mallet leverage worked for me, I had applied as much force with the car's jack L tool that is in the back, but then I saw this, got a rubber mallet to place and got a hammer (used the nail pulling part of it to pull the cable and the rubber mallet as leverage to pull... after much force it snapped and the break was released! I was about to cut the wires that came from the box underneath. Thanks!!

      @@fixit4all I think I figured the problem my intake duct was out of place so the air wouldn’t reach the intake it would just leak out the air. Put it back test drove it & the light went away.

      Hello. I join you. I got this error on my dashboard 2 days ago. When I stopped at the store for 30 minutes and came back and started the car, the error did not appear (even when I look through the car information section - I don't see any errors). The car had been sitting outside for 2 days prior to this, not being driven at all, maybe it was due to the wet weather that caused the error to appear for a short period of time. I haven't looked under the hood myself yet, and I'll also connect the obd to see if the error is there, if it's there at all. Driving back after work today, I thoroughly tested the rpm, the error did not appear. I can't understand whether I have power or not, sometimes it seems that when I press the gas pedal the car does not pick up speed fast enough as it was before. I have a bmw e91 2011.

      Happened to me in the 335i it should be the charge pipe for the turbo , it’s probably cracked or loose , it’s plastic

      @@davissleja2495 If your sympon is limbmode from 850-2500 Rpm, check turbo charger pipe from turbocharrger to intercooler. It is quite common error on many BMW. I had the same and after replacing both turbo charger pipes, the turbocharger works again.

      Hello- it depends, I didn't have to. I bought mine from RockAUto, it was an aftermarket but brand new from an OEM Supplier so it came ready to install. If you buy remanufactured from eBay, you may have to . Check out INPA videos if you want to know how to program. Hope it helps. Regards

    Useful video thanks. My scanner was showing PDC sensor fault 10:31 but it was the front harness same as you. Had to remove it again when harness arrived took no time at all. Cleared the fault codes on my scanner after fitting and the PDC was happier then. The new harness from BMW was actually not too expensive but the male plugs needed the tiniest modification to fit. (The correct harness according to BMW) thanks again. Saved me an hour or two!!

    Hi! I have a serious problem with my emergency parking. It has locked seven times in the past few weeks. All BMW does is reset the break and tell me that the computer does not find anything else wrong However, it keeps happening. First it starts with a whining sound when I unlock the car ... sounds like the cable is being rolled and it slaps against the actual body of the car , like a slap sound. It actually tensions the cable, but I assume is not calibrated. In fact, the cable flew out of the trunk hole due to this tension and ended up on the floor. BMW can't find the reason. Any ideas?

      Hi barpaza, I am surprised that BMW hasn't recommended to replace the parking break actuator (which is BTW a very expense repair). I have tried the repair route but I will be honest its difficult and doesn't work. A good middle ground is to buy an OEM/Aftermarket actuator. Try Rock Auto if you are in USA. They have something for around $300-400 and comes with warranty. I used the same and its working for now. Also while you are at it, replace the parking break shoes as well just in case they are worn out. These are pretty affordable. hope it helps. Regards

    Dude thank you. Your explanation and clarity that the cable just needs more force was exactly what I needed to know. Car is now driveable. Now if only I could be confident I’m doing the “reset” procedure to confirm it’s a permanent failure and not just a fluke.
