Been doing this for years. Works great. I like that it doesnt give off plastic smell that paints tend to do. Deer are used to that burnt wood smell.

I really like the idea, the cost efficiency, and readiness availability but for superior concealment the soot gives off a smoke smell which is distinguishable by dogs if you are being tracked & deer, yotes, bear, and nearly any animal you hunt. If you never been winded by a deer you haven’t been hunting enough.

I’m struggling with loading my kayak onto the Thule j-hooks attached to my Honda SUV. I can’t slide it across the roof as this video shows. Do you have any ideas for solo loading in this way?

I was considering one of these, but with 6 built in rod holders and 4 rails to add more, it makes more sense for me to just get a tote with a gasket seal and run that for food and camping storage. I can put all of my clothes, hammock, rain fly, and tarp in the front hatch of my kayak. I just use a single flat tackle box under my seat for tackle. No need to take everything. Just what i know works on the river. For power i dont really need it. I just bring a couple 38,000 mAh power packs woth solar panels and thats enough to keep my phone charged for 7 days.

They are a budget reel, they won't hold up to any consistent fishing with large fish.

Hi. Beginner kayak owner here that just realized I’m in over my head. Lol. I have a rav4. And while I can easily lift a 38lb kayak over my head, I’d prefer to not have to. But what if you have one of those plastic spoilers on the roof of your SUV? I have a rav4. So now idk if a roller load assist would work for me. I have crossbars, straps. But need a mount.

With the right end caps (smaller pipe), you could use them, instead of the short pieces of pipe on the "T". That way, you would have a "Closed T" mounting block. (I'll be making a sonar directional mounting pole for my Garmin Live Scope, as soon as I can AFFORD the Transducer - that is!). Lol

Great video. Another alternative to the bathmat is a roll of that black, rubbery, non-stick matting you can get real cheap. I already have some to stop stuff sliding around in the trunk; and I've cut some strips for the roof bars to stop any possible abrasion there. It actually works better than the pool noodles I originally got for the same purpose.
