Приєднався 1 чер 2021
I hit the big five-o. Quit my business. Got rid of my stuff. Got my motorbike licence. I then spent a year building a Mercedes Sprinter campervan with a Honda CRF300 Rally motorbike in the back. I now live full time in the campervan, travelling the world and exploring the dirt tracks on the adventure bike along the way. Come along 😀
Ireland [S2-E2] Game Of Thrones, seals for lunch and a volcano
I'm posting this next video at 6pm on my 57th birthday, my first without my mum to wish me 'Many Happy Returns'. Ten months on and I'm still struggling to come to terms with her not being here. I've shared my whole life with her, the ups and downs, and not being able to do that anymore is one of the hardest things to come to terms with. I know we all suffer this loss someday, but no one seems to talk about it, which kind of left me more unprepared. So I'm sharing my grief with you in the hope that, if you've been lucky enough to not experience this yet, you wont feel like you're the only one to feel the way you do when it happens.
I'm so grateful for you all and thank you for being my outlet to share my future trials and tribulations.
In this episode, I finally tear myself away from the charming village of Glenarm and continue my journey along Northern Ireland's breathtaking north coast.
Before long, I discover a theme emerging-I’ve unintentionally become a Game of Thrones groupie! With so many iconic filming locations scattered along this route, it’s hard not to stumble across one at every turn.
I visit some incredible places, including Rathlin Island, where I enjoy a packed lunch in the company of curious seals-a magical and unexpected highlight.
Next up is Cushendun, a picturesque National Trust-owned village. Its unique cave (which I found pretty fascinating) has its own story to tell.
At Fair Head, I venture to the top of its dramatic basalt cliffs, taking in the awe-inspiring views while trying not to look down for too long. From there, it’s on to Ballycastle, a delightful seaside town and harbour perfect for a leisurely stroll.
Finally, I arrive at Carrick-a-Rede, an ancient volcanic site shaped over six million years ago. Despite being just a short distance along the coast, its otherworldly landscape feels like a journey through time.
Thank you so much for coming along and keeping me company.
I love reading your comments, so keep 'em coming.

Last time you saw me boarding a ship to England, where I spent a brief time catching up with loved ones, collecting my parcels for the things I'd ordered online and carrying out some much needed repairs on Big Yellow. I really wanted to get the air con sorted (finally), replace a noisy wheel bearing at the rear, have the MOT done and change the oil. I also took out the old fridges (which were s...

This time I'm in full Mr Grumpy mode as I make my way towards Calais, where I'll soon be boarding a ferry back to Blighty. I take a little detour to visit the beach of Dunkirk, which leads me into a massive rant about the 'powers that be'...and plastic? Sorry! Then, the final drive in the EU has me reminiscing and having a rant about the driving styles (in my opinion) of the different countries...

I get breathalysed by the police. I leave Portugal and cross in to Spain where I don't see Kings of Leon. I carry on through in to France where I don't take a look around Saint-Malo but I do lose 'Big Yellow'. Other than that, what could possibly go wrong? Thank you so much for coming along and keeping me company. I love reading your comments and please give me a thumbs up if you enjoyed the vi...
Goodbye Portugal [S1-E10]

My first morning nursing my injuries and feeling sorry for myself I have to contend with someone doing their best to add to my misery. I'm not happy and, I'm sorry to say, I express it by having a right good rant. I spend my final days in Portugal and reminisce at how much I've enjoyed it. 'Big Yellow' my Sprinter campervan, has a problem. The rear camera has packed up and that's not great when...

I'm thrilled to meet up with Diogo Guerra of Off Road-Off Course in the off road adventure playground of Portugal. After setting my bike up for me, Diogo explains the theory behind the techniques of off road riding, in a clear and understandable way so that everything just makes sense. We then hit the trails, riding endless dirt tracks, putting my new knowledge in to practice. If you've been fo...
The BEST Seaside Resort in Portugal? [S1-E8]

I'm saying goodbye to the Algarve and starting my journey north. I've decided to spend a few nights in Sines, and honestly, it might just be the best seaside resort in Portugal (but let's keep that between us!) with a breath-taking cliffside park-up for my campervan. I give 'Big Yellow'', my Mercedes Sprinter self built campervan, some much-needed TLC and stumble upon another incredible town, t...

On the next leg of my epic journey through the Algarve mountains in my self-converted Mercedes Sprinter campervan, I explore the villages of Ameixial, Alferce, and Monchique. Riding my CRF300 Rally down stunning dirt roads is pure adrenaline, but the heat and my inexperience push me back to safety on the paved routes. Along the way, I discover an incredible hike that leads to an unforgettable r...

A very decent first biking vlog, especially considering you didn’t like bike not know how to ride!!! Thank you.
That's very kind of you. Thank you 🙏
Will done just for the record I thank that old cottage is for sale on property market NI
You're kidding, right?? 🤔
Class part of the world!
Fun coming along for ride,thanks😊
It's great to have you with me ☺️
I would never have a Belfast bap, they are cheap bread, eaten by school kids who fill them with potato crisps. Having a "fry" in a bap is a "tourist" thing. What you should have had was an egg soda (toasted, or fried soda bread with a fried egg or two inside, sprinkle of salt, smear of brown sauce... yum. County Down is nice as well, if you turn left at Belfast rather than right. Another nice coastline and you end up in the Mourne mountains eventually. Anyway, I enjoyed your trip..cheers.
I love a food top tip. I'll be sure to have just that when I'm back. Thank you 😊
Looking forward to seeing the rest of your Ireland videos, we might get some tips from you! Glenarm still one of your favourites?!
I'm finding everywhere is my favourite. What a place 😀
Looking forward to seeing the rest of your visit... My wife is from 'Norn Iron' so we're looking forward to hearing your pronunciation of some of the place names! It is a fabulous country though, have a great time.
I'm sure I won't disappoint 😂
Great video
Thank you so much 🙏
I moved to NI from the US at the age of 60 during covid. The motorcycling in the parts of the mainland UK and Ireland that I've ridden is very good. N.I in total is an absolutely wonderful place to ride, with lots of interesting places to get off and bumble around. The fact that the two winningest Isle of Man racers and the GOAT of World Superbike racing come from this place that has a population of less than 2 million probably indicates something about the quality of the riding.
It is epic. Great to hear you're living the dream 😀
Next time uncut version of the workings of the mind 😄Such a beautiful country. Years ago I traveled from the south of Ireland to the North. Never visited Giant's Causeway but I had a dream if I would come back one day, it would be on a motorbike (I will). Nice to see the dream visualized here. I love this country, nice people, stunning views and as I recall music everywhere (and beer).
It's stolen a piece of my heart.
I went riding around N. Ireland around 8 years ago and many of the roads you did. It’s spectacularly beautiful. Once the kids are grown up, I’ll be going back. 👍
I don't blame you.
Nice vid. Love the coastline never thought of NI like that
Me neither 😀
Looks stunning. Look forward to the next chapter..
Bally means townland or place of. My village is called Ballygowan which translates to townland of the blacksmith.
Ah, thank you for the translation 😀
I ride that road every day from Larne to carinlough every day i never tire of it
I'm not surprised. You're a lucky man 😁
I had to catch up on your journey, with a few extra episodes of binge watching Project Midlife Crisis. But it was worth watching, as always. I just realized I also talk a lot to myself, but without a UA-cam channel that might be labeled differently. Anyway :-D thanks for sharing the beautiful views, your adventures and your moods.
Welcome back 😁 Hmmm, talking to yourself without a camera 🤔🤪
Keep up the travels and the videos..and enjoy those mindful moments x
Thank you! Will do x
Just found your channel I agree with your comments ,we don’t take our vehicles abroad but GB has a lot to offer ,we drive abroad ,but as you say there’s a lot of uninteresting countryside I think this is caused by concentrated tourism? Route 66 is mostly boring ,maybe we know Britain better ,love driving but not motor homes we are too old for that ,but everyone is different thank goodness Enjoy your trips😊
Ilkley moor and surroundings are awesome 👍. Thanks for your support and coming along.
Hi Nige. As someone who is about your age 57 how do you fund these trips and lifestyle ? As i woukd love to do this sort of stuff but looks like i will be working until i die 😔
Hi, that's a very good question. In fact I should make a video about it 🤔 In short, it's taken me ten years to get here. A big factor is that I don't live in a house, which I estimate is the equivalent of a £12k/year pay rise. I rent out a house which gives me a small income, which is all I need 🙏😅
@@projectmidlifecrisis you dont seem to have a partner so that makes a difference. Having a wife. 2 adult daughters 3 grandsons and another on the way living a simple quiet life seems very attractive :)
I bet! 😄
I’m really enjoying your journey over the last year or so. Totally agree with the recycling points you raised, if the government was really that bothered about the waste, they would ban the unnecessary packaging.
It's great to hear you're enjoying coming along 😊
Man. Huge congratulations. The cb125f is a s@@t box. Literally destroyed two of those engines. Made me go F this. And got a full license . Been riding a v strom 650 for a year and cruising on motorways.
Good for you 😀
Such a good video. I'm 25 I passed my mod 2 last year the journey was crazy my CBT ran out so had to re do that so i could do my mod 1 failed 3 attempts all with 1 major on mod 2 no minors silly mistakes from nerves, money was the major set back and the waiting for new test dates was very stressful but i promise get youreself on a bike and you will really enjoy youreself. I had a honda cb650f and now i have a Yamaha R1 summer time is amazing the biker community is just outstanding my first time broken down and like 6 bikers pulled up helped me fix my bike I was so stressed. Bikes are dangerous just be x10 more aware then when you are in a car is my best advice anyone wanting to do this.
How long did it take from start to finish? Did you practice weeks /months in between each exam or do it one after the other straight away?
Hi Stephen, It took me a couple of months but that's only because I had to wait for an appointment for some of the tests. Otherwise I could have done it, in theory, in a week. Speak with your riding school regards this. In terms of practice, again in theory you could do it without any practice apart from the theory of course 😜. You'll know if you need more practice as you go along, and your school will tell you also. Enjoy it 👍
@@projectmidlifecrisis Yeh my school said I needed to do about 100+ miles practice to get muscle memory as I was always seeing the problems but having to think where all the controls where delaying reaction times example I was coming up to roundabout in too high a gear and managed just to get around in a jolting motion. Instructor said to me if I was on 600cc I'd have been in the hedge on other side of the roundabout !! Slow speed balancing is my problem. The tutor told me that the only ones that can do it and pass in week have usually been riding on private land (eg as a kid) for a while and just need the road knowledge skills. Must be everyone's individual ability that decides how long then. Did you get numb hands riding after 5 mins? I do which could be a problem.🤪
It'll all fall in to place with practice. I think I may remember having numb hands now you mention it 🤔. I had to learn to grip the handlebars like I was holding a small bird 😀 Again, this takes practice, but everything comes easier once you learn to trust, relax and let the bike do it's thing.
Totally agree!!! NO COMMON SENSE.😂
😂
That was a great watch'' I look forward to seeing your version of Spain 👌
Thanks for letting me know you enjoyed it 😊
Great video matey. Portugal looked lovely looking forward to Spain now. You’ll probably get banned on here if you show “Blowing the copper lol
😅
Keep up the videos, great footage of your travels. ATB.
👌👌👌👌👍🤙
That looked like a great day out with Diogo would give that a go myself as the video went on your confidence grew the speed increased but your position on the track was nearly perfect all the time unfortunate about the fall at the end but you cant make an omelette without breaking a few eggs (if you had any) keep them coming look forward to the next one
Thank you Andrew. I appreciate your support. There's still a couple of places available on the trip I'm organising with Diogo for next May if you fancy it. offroad-offcourse.com/tour/3-day-training-tour/
@projectmidlifecrisis I would love to but my holiday days from work for next year are already spoken for
Looked great fun and yes I can imagine it's tiring with all the concentration, standing up and co ordination required. At least it's dry, warm and dusty and not wet , cold and boggy 😅
Very true 😃
You may not have visited the best places in the Algarve. I live here and the only place that gets "rammed" is Albufeira. Most Algarve beaches and resorts cope easily with the visitor numbers.
I would be delighted to join you on the 3 day Diego trip !
Hi, Great to hear from you and I'm excited that you're thinking of joining us for an epic adventure next year. Please could you drop me an email at projectmidlifecrisis@hotmail.com with your name as the title, and I'll send you an email with further details soon, once Diogo and I have the details wrapped up. There's only five places available and I'm offering them up in order that people message me, so you're on the 'first refusal' list. People contacting me after the first five will be on the reserve list. See you soon.
First time posting.... You're channel has been an inspiration to me to get my backside in gear..... Very interested in this if you could pencil me in!

No 😕 Is it motorbike related? You have to remember, it's all new to me 😁

Very interested if you pencil me in. Have the L not the Rally so least its a good level platform as you. Great video thanks for taking the time to inlcude great footage. Sorry sbout your fall but great experience gained. No pain (or winding) no gain 👍

Oh man that was brilliant! It was a shame you crashed at the end right after all that confidence build up (well...maybe because of it 😂) You did great man! Both on the riding and the video editing! Feel free to stop by whenever!! ❤❤

Excellent video. I'm on the same journey. 45. Have my CBT on Thursday 3rd October. What is the name of the piece of music when riding the bike. Beautiful.
Have fun on the CBT 😊 The music is in the video description 👍
Good stuff. Seemed really quick to get your full licence! Did you have to do a DAS course ?
Yes I did. The riding school sorted everything apart from the theory.
Nice
One of the better layouts.
Totally 😁
Good to have the van and Moto combination !
It sure is!
Ayamonte is a fab town, with some super restaurants
I didn't really see it as I arrived late and left early, but I liked what I saw 😁
If you come back, (I hope you do) please give consideration to the ACT. It’s as pretty as the TET and you crash less !
I like the sound of crashing less. Count me in.
You captured it well sir ! best wishes.
Welcome to the Algarve ! *Portugal is the best country in the world for motorcycling* Legal and easily accessed off road trails. *Friendly locals, clean air, great healthy food, perfect climate.*
