I have done four vans so far and know how much work it is to insulate and then hide it under timber boards or cloth. People who have never done this don't understand the time it takes to do the job correctly. I was lucky to start with new vans each time. Have a nice day.
OMG, for a second I saw you intended to glue it on the foam and said "he ruined it" and then I saw you doing the right thing and leaving a gap. Very impressed.
Thanks for the quick reply, am about to convert a vavaro myself and have been looking at different ways to insulate and liked the way u have done ur,s, as u say it seems cheaper and it's lighter, as i won't b putting a diesel heater just yet was wondering if this way helped keep heat in, i think u answered the question very well, will keep watching to c if i can pinch anymore tips, can't wait to c u working on the sprinter 👍, thanks billy
For solar panels for the Sprinter, since you plan to live in it, maximize the coverage as much as possible. The large skylight that doubles as an exit to the roof is an excellent Idea. I would also put a MaxxAir fan in front though. Batteries, LiFePo4 hands down. If you can put one together yourself, it will not be more expensive than a much inferior brand name AGM.
Hello Spiros, thank you for the top tips and feedback, it's greatly appreciated. I've put the Maxxaire fan at the front and will be looking at how to make the batteries as you suggested 👍
Just stumbled on your channel, it's amazing how much we have in common lol, I ride bikes, and also looking into converting a van for weekends away with a view to looking at van life and it's options. I ride a triumph tiger explorer 1200 and there's no way I could get that in/out of a van tho 😞 I'd be very interested in learning how you did the hot water heating and cold mix. By the way I'm 53 also. 👍
Hi there bud. Just subscribed to your Channel. Love it A couple of questions. I see you have taken out the bulkhead. Does this reduce the integrity of the strength of the van. In case of roll over ? And what is the black sound proofing , is a rubber substance. And where can I get this. Better than sheep’s wool insulation?
Hi Craig, It's great to have you on board. The bulkhead is an option when ordering new from the factory and only serves to secure the rear of the van from the front. I bought 10mm closed cell foam from carinsulation.co.uk. I personally think it's the best way to go. It's light, sounds proofs and cannot absorb moisture. Good luck with your build 👍
Hi Terry, I totally get what you mean. I've come to the conclusion that life's too short. I think I'm more afraid of what I don't do, than what I do do, even if it doesn't work out. When I'm old and decrepit, I'll deal with being old and decrepit but for now, stay on the ride as long as you can. Don't listen to me though. I'm an idiot 😂 I guess you've gotta do what feels right for you buddy. Look me up if you choose to take the scary road and we'll commiserate each other in our bad decisions, whilst sipping a beer in front of a fire under the stars 🤜
@@projectmidlifecrisis here here I totally agree mate life is slipping pass so fast I’m 61 next month and there is so much more to see except work! And having a beer together sounds like a plan lol 😂 👍🏻
Hi, just found ur channel and been watching ur videos, was wondering if the way u have insulated the van with that bubble wrap foil, ( proper names gone) does it keep the van warm, as been looking at different people's build's and this seems decent for a low budget, thanks billy, ps looks good 👍
Hi Billy, There's two parts to it. The black closed cell foam provides insulation and sound proofing while the foil bubble wrap is a vapour barrier and will also reflect heat/cold. The foil bubble wrap should not be stuck directly to the panel where possible, as the gap between is important for it to be effective. I like this method because it's light, not too expensive and you don't lose valuable inches inside your van.

Hi 👋 I like your idea off living in a van full time but can I ask you what’s your plan if for long term like old age as that’s what’s stopping me 🤔
