YES, this IS MURPHY'S HAYSTACKS on the EYRE PENINSULA, SA! WOW!!!!!!
If you've seen the famous Instagram pic of MURPHY'S HAYSTACKS on SOUTH AUSTRALIA'S EYRE PENINSULA you probably think it is just a handful or rocks and we've even been told some have looked at them from the car park and moved on!
Geez, we think they got that wrong!
There is so much more here than first meets the eye, so come take a walk through in this episode with Aidan and I!
You can even buy local honey here, it's an overnight camp too and you'll wake up to a pretty amazing view and like me you might think a couple of the rocks are staring at you!

Very well maintained and lovely wide walking track. I enjoyed watching this and listening to your report on Murphy's Haystacks
@@JeanetteDundas-g6l thanks Jeanette, yes they have done a great job setting it up for people to enjoy. There is so much more there to see than you first think.
I'm interested to know.. does the wind blow from one direction more than another?
@@JeanetteDundas-g6l that's a good question Jeanette, and one we didn't even think about when we were there 🤔 But it could be a possibility
The lizard looks more like a shingleback than a blue-tongue. It's scales look coarser. And with that more triangular head. Not saying I'm right just what it looks like to me. I used to have a "Sleepy lizard" (Shingleback) as a "pet" when I was in my early teens .. hell, 5 decades ago... yikes... And we used to have a blue-tongue living in our back yard for a while...a few years back. It was sleeker and more finely scaled than the Sleepy..
@@A.S.K.1 it probably is Steve, as we are no experts, we were only guessing 😯
Leah here! Yes definitely a Shingleback, that one! They don't drop their tails like the Blue Tongue can! 🤠
Lovely Ep and spot guys, On our list todo in 2026
@@craigtomkinson2837 definitely worth putting the Eyre Peninsula on your list and allowing plenty of time to explore it.
@@Vantastic_Aus Thanks
I live in Victoria and that’s just down the street from my house 🏠 😮
@@lisahall2411 it's a great piece of art and hopefully it is benefiting your community with more people stopping to see it
If you take your glasses off, will it make it easier to hear you?
@@jebw probably not 😜
As amazing phones are these days you will find an incredible passion for photography once you buy a proper camera. Especially when it comes to as you mentioned golden hour etc. Interesting hearing your thoughts on preferred camping. We love camping in the outback but also love beach camping just as much. That dune you climbed would’ve been epic love adventures like that. That beach at the 15:46 was stunning could see us spending time there and wow that area at 26:00 looked epic.
Unfortunately both of those spots don't have camping, but there are some other spots nearby. We prefer the bush camping, but do visit the beach every now and again, but still prefer to camp anywhere but on the beach, it's too sandy 😀 We have a few amazing camp spots coming in our up coming Eyre Peninsula videos over the next few weeks 😉
@ really enjoying the Eyre content.
@@filthyoffroadadventures thanks, we have a few more to come 😁
The Haystacks?
@lorrainewisener8341 yes Murphy's haystacks on the Eyre Peninsula. We did put the location tag on the short...somewhere!
Book flights on an A380 Airbus as these are so quiet and smooth that you won't even think you are flying.
@jebw Thanks we are looking into the options for flights and but not all routes fly A380's unfortunately, but they are a really nice plane to fly on.
Come here to say love the way you guys travel, same with us we can't wait to get back out on the road, we had 6 weeks this year where we travelled to Alice, Free Camping as much as possible, which is our preferred way to travel, when we started following youtubers to get ideas and inspiration we found most do the same "touristy" type sites, I mean you don't need to see every man and his dog for example showing the same vision of Mary Kathleen, prefer to see more of off the beaten track :) great job (and love how your vids aren't "over edited" too), love the realness of it all
@@LEANNEBARILE thanks Leanne, glad you like our videos. Yes we won't ever be accused of over editing 😲 Yes we prefer to free camp when we can and to be out in the bush as much as possible, we are red dirt people not beachy people.
Hi, Leanne, Leah here, thanks so much for that lovely comment, we will definitely not be producing movie quality vids 😂 but we do try and just keep it real, you see it as we do and if we're having a shite time, you're probably going to know! 😂 Thanks for watching!
Adding this to my list very nice
@@rebeccarobertson2858 definitely worth adding to your list Rebecca 👍
Definitely adding that to our list. We love rock sections like that and would be cool with the FPV drone. Man graffiti on buildings and attractions of significance really gets under my skin. Man the Bushtrakker is like an apartment so nice. Matt and Leisa
Yes it would be cool with a drone, but it was a bit windy that day, so I wasn't comfortable putting it up but have some coming in another episode where we got a chance to fly it. Still learning it so don't want to take risks yet 🤔 Yes the BT is pretty comfortable, but still rugged underneath 😀
@ yeah just have to get it up and start using it. If it’s a DJI pop the sensors on and you will be fine.
yes it is a DJI, but just don't want to damage it, before I get used to handling it, so try and avoid windy flights at present.
Lovely ep and area guys
@@craigtomkinson2837 yes we love the EP as well and have a few more episodes in the works so keep an eye out.
Great Vid... One Day....
@@Accolades70 thanks Mark, glad you enjoyed it and definitely worth visiting 👍
We are inlanders too.. where is the Viking type character? This went too fast for me to have a good look, at him, we've been too many of the other places, though..
@@josimpson-bv7ds Jo, the Viking type character is at Crocodile Harry's in Coober Pedy, it's an interesting place to visit. Here is the link to the video ua-cam.com/video/e9UM4TNowcQ/v-deo.html
Noice vid - Like the GottaGo - lots of options..
Thanks Mark, yes it has a few options and hopefully they work out and have no smell 🤞🤔
Interesting will have to add that to our list especially as we head west in a few months.
@@filthyoffroadadventures yes it is definitely worth visiting, although don't know if it's dog friendly in the gardens.
Stony Creek Bush Camp Willmington is fantastic.
Yes Anne we have heard that but haven't stayed there yet, but its on the list.
@@Vantastic_Aus owner is a chef and delivers beautiful meals to your campsite or pizzas.
@@annietravels5543 thanks that's good to know 👍
As an artist who enjoys painting flora & fauna i reall appreciate the arrid garden exploring guys.
Glad you enjoyed it Michelle, it is definitely a great spot with lots to see and experience, gave us a few ideas.
Agh bugger we will now miss you on your Qld trip. If we mange to get set up properly in WA (south west) there might be room to crash for a bit. Man you have had some bad luck with the Ram from electrical to the camper. Very keen to see how that rear camera goes. We changed our build in the new van to the composting Ogo toilet after talking to many people and we are sold on it. Aiden smart man getting the stone stomper best investment possible. Matt and Leisa.
@@filthyoffroadadventures thanks Matt. You never know we might manage to meet up with you depending on which way you are travelling to Southern WA. Yes the electrical issue is frustrating but hopefully we are getting closer to getting it sorted out 🤞 Yes the stone stomper will help keep the stones down.
@ yes I will be head over with the new Reconn via SA so that would be great. Hope to have Leisa fly into Adelaide and will pick her up so we can do the trip over together.
@@filthyoffroadadventures well let us know when you are heading this way. Plenty of room to park in our place if you want to.
@@Vantastic_Aus definitely keen to catch up other than just on the phone.
We’re like you guys, live outside, cook outside, only go inside to sleep.
@@chrissycee yes Chrissy it is a great way to enjoy the places, rather than sitting inside 😁
Vegemite for breakfast?😂
@@igldl53i67 of course, if you are Aussie 😉
Bunnings don't butter the bread, either. 😉 I love the onions... and sauce... And snags.. now I'm hungry again. I often make my own, as well.. yummy.
@@A.S.K.1 thanks Steve, yes I am feeling hungry to, even though I just had lunch 😯
We only have a camper trailer & we cook outside all the time for obvious reasons… we’ve noticed the same as you. Everybody hides in their vans! 🤷🏼♀️ we don’t go inside unless it’s raining or it’s time for bed. Sad news about your camper!!
@@jodifinnegan8660 yes Jodi it is becoming more and more obvious to us when we are at campsites with other people around that there is less socialising among the people then there was even a few years ago.
What a buggu. I hope it is all sorted soon. ❤️🌺
@@lenorerhodes8110 yes Lenore it's annoying but they are working on it and hopefully it will be an easy fix, or we might have to come back over to Victoria 😉
That’s so disheartening for you both..yes at least you have your health touch wood..hopefully onwards and upwards from here..love watching you content..
@@jodidaly9711 thanks Jodi, yes it is annoying but they are working on what the issue is and hopefully it will be an easy fix 🙂
Hey guys thanks for the shoutout ❤ We loved that camp and will definitely head back when we have more time to spend there. It’s definitely better when camping closer to the river and we never heard any noise from the solar farm so sorry about that. That’s terrible about the camper 😢 you poor buggers. Can I ask was the new canvas seasoned by the company before you picked it up?? If not that can definitely cause a lot of leaking through all seams. Can’t wait to see what your plans are for next year hope we catch up on the road soon.
@@filthyoffroadadventures it is a great camp, the solar farm wasn't to bad, it was just squeaky when the panels tilted to follow the sun. The canvas didn't leak it was where it joins on to the metal roof, and we had over an inch of rain overnight. Yes hopefully we can catch up on the road sometime.
@ bugger. Good thing is the company has really tried to help out and fix things.
@@filthyoffroadadventures yes they have been great and are working hard to find the cause and fix it.
The wet weather sucks guys. We are at Mannum on the Murray. A lovely 30 here at the moment just saying 😂 safe travels.
@@davidcox8943 yes David the wet weather does suck, especially when it gets inside your camper. But hopefully it will be sorted shortly. Mannum is a beautiful spot, have fun 😊
Noice - One Day
@@Accolades70thanks it is nice and great for quick get aways.
Nothing is perfect and what makes a good product and manufacturer is the way they deal with issues. We agree with the plan for spending more time in places. Once we start full time we will not be planning too far ahead and be willing to set up for longer stops when we find cool stuff. You need a discount code for a sippy cup 😂
Someone send my man a clean shirt! 😂
@@filthyoffroadadventures yes we prefer to not to have a plan or bookings which gives us flexibility. But it is a problem in some areas where you need to book months in advance 😞
Maintenance and more maintenance
@newyboys yes maintenance is important but you can't pick up everything, especially when the issue is under fixed solar panels.
Just like some volunteer positions there is a balance where they should be paid jobs.
@@annietravels5543 yes Anne, it is a balance, and it's all down to the individual to decide where that point is.
Magnifique!!! La nature au travail!!!

@@filthyoffroadadventures yes so do we, if you haven't already guessed 😄 There are so many amazing ones all around the country, so we still have plenty more to see.
silo art is always so cool. I love the small towns and pubs. I always buy a beer or a feed at every town I go too. Keep the money in the towns..
@@martinstallard6173 yes Martin the silo art is cool, and does make more people stop in the small towns and spend some time and maybe some money.
Yes you could be walking over it a bushwalker in Bendigo kicked a 10oz nug on a walking track 2 years ago thats a $40,000+ lump of the good stuff found with a foot. Good luck out there.
Thanks, but we are not that lucky. We would like to learn more about gold prospecting and where you can and can't do it. But that is another thing on our long list.
Lost me at glutton free
Wish I could be a glutton but sorry, Coeliac life is not one I'm always lovin'! 🤣 Especially on the road, I'd love to be able to get stuck into a pie but I can't and that's one big difference between Aidan and I!
We need to head back there as last time we were there it was all about mountain biking. I suggest you replace your sneezing camera man with a tripod 😂
@filthyoffroadadventures it's definitely worth visiting again, still a lot of mountain biking but plenty more as well. We have a tripod, but she still wants me to do some camera work as I do some things better 😉

A fabulous place to visit. I grew up in a local town and now live close to Bonegilla (we locals pronounce it as Bone (same as eg. bone in your leg) - e (as for egg) gill (same as a fish gill) -a (pronounced u), Growing up in the 50’s and 60’s we knew a lot of people who spent time there and then moved to local towns. The children went to our schools and we never had racial discrimination issues. Many of them became close friends. I remember as a child going to the camp when I was young and visiting some of the people my parents became friends with. I would listen to their stories of what it was like living in Europe during the war. Even though I was a child I found it heartbreaking listening to some of their stories. Our region was blessed to have these wonderful, resilient people living and working in our community. ❤️🌺
Yes Lenore we found it quite moving to visit, but extremely glad we did visit and did the tour, it added a lot to the experience in our opinion.
Hi, what sort of temps were you getting for May. We’re looking for June/July next year.
@@paulgiles542 Paul from memory we were getting low to mid twenties and sunny, with night time lows of around 5-7. In July you can get high teens to low twenties, but nights can get to zero, if they are clear. A lot depends on the wind direction and speed as well, which you can't really predict, but if from the south it will be cold.
Thanks for this very informative utube, we will be there in a few weeks and might be able to fit it in.
