If shtf, STAY OFF ROADS!!! You won't make it very far. Also, MANUAL CAN OPENER!!! Get a P-51! It's bigger than the P-38, so you get better leverage. Especially if you have big hands! These weigh NOTHING, and are easily worn as a necklace.

LLBean use to make great hiking boots in the US . Cresta was the model all leather. Feet first!!! Smartwool socks! Been a while since i had a pair.Makes all the difference if your walking on rocks. MSR gas stove. White gas/ it would also run on reg gas but it would smoke & your pan got black.😂

Being a person who spends as much time as possible outside, I have really come to loathe most newer raingear. What is the point of "water resistant" and "breathable" raingear? If it can only keep you dry from car to building before the water soaks you, it is not raingear! I'm not aware of any places that only get an occasional light mist where these things might actually be suitable for. Speaking of jackets/coats, is anyone else totally frazzled with the hoods on them? I swear they're impossible to keep on my head. Some are sized for a baby while others would cover an elephant's head. My most waterproof raincoat has a hood that covers my whole head down to my chin and the toggles don't cinch it up enough to even come close to fitting properly. I've noticed so many items that I've bought over the last decade have been "improved" to the point of being useless for their original purpose and they call this "progress"?

Rain Gear - Steve is right, if it rains you get wet. It doesn't matter what you have, if you don't get wet from Rain, then you will get wet from sweat, for amy prolonged rain. I haven't used frog togs, but use very light weight rain gear. Mt Goat. PCT, CDT, GDT, and this year PNT (Pacific Northwest Trail). About Merrill Shoes - These aren't typical shoes for thru hikers, but as the saying goes, hike your own hike. Trail Runners, and Ultras are common, I of course have to use something different... New Balance 608 (classic trainer). Packs - Granite Gear seems to last (for me) only 1 ( 5 month) thru hike. I switched over to the ULA brand Ohm, and have done 3 thru hikes on it. (ULA seems to like electronics, so their Backpack products are Circuit, Ohm)

Cheap steel case ammo is long gone. Right now there is no cheap 5.56x45 or 7.62x39. Brass FMJ for both online is running 45-50 cents per round. Steel case can be higher. Practice 9mm FMJ is 22-25 cents. Decent 9mm JHP is minimum of 45-50 cents. Bulk Aguila 22lr is about 6 cents per round. We are old and probably wont survive but we will not go quietly. Well maybe with the suppressors.

BUG IN!!!, if youre living in a house... There is no real feasible reason to BUG OUT. You need to BUG IN for at least 3 weeks to even think about leaving your house. Wait until the dust settles a little before venturing outside. Defend your house, family, and belongings.

I prefer a poncho and liner. There are many different brands an they are affordable. Next thing i believe you need 3 blades. A work knife about 3.5 -4in. A kitchen knife. Finally a machete around 14in next and probably most importantly a folding saw. When setting up a kit for a disaster or whatever. My advice everyone should have a go bag able to sustain you for 72hrs. First a bag 25-45 liters. The more you know the less frear you pack. Next sleeping gear/shelter A tarp and rope(550, bankline) air mattress, sleeping bag. Next water bottle(single wall aluminum) a cup 750ml. (metal) Cooking gear alcohol stove, an twig stove. Light flashlight and head lamp. Always take extra underwear. At least a days extra clothes. In winter you want something to sleep in different then your daily wear. This list is basic you learn by going and using. Start by car camping then do a weekend hike. Once you can do 2 days and a night. Everything is the same just more food. Only gear that's important to me is what i need to sleep because that can make everything miserable. Sleep good you'll feel good.

The whole point of breathability in coats is to avoid any sweating. You are basically wearing more than you need and the excess heat escapes. Your set-up is more for lighter weight applications. Wear less, stay warm, but get soaked with sweat. About the most dangerous thing you can do in a cold situation is getting wet.

I posted about this before, quality over weight. You get use to the weight after a few days when hiking. Quality on the other hand is worth the extra fatigue. A good belt belt with purses and pouches (old fashion distinction between round and square) is a must along with a canteen. Your hips and legs can handle the weight especially with women. A hunting fixed blade knife that's 5 1/2 inches by 2 inches or so is better then a pocket knife. You can use it to flip burgers and other stuff like that. A knife in a sheath with a snap strap can be used easily with one hand and has less things that can go wrong. People are all about high tech and new gizmos. It's all fine and dandy until it's not. Batteries run out and so on. Low tech and what worked in the past like a candle and flint 'n steel shouldn't be overlooked. We can't allow ads and other such things cloud our judgement on things. Also, even if we have the right tools not being able to use them correctly isn't that good either.
