A Gift to November 24 - Fold up tote from two fat quarters sewalong
Sew Like Dotty is holding a fabulous challenge during November, so that you can get your Christmas sewing started early - A Gift to November 24. You need to sew a gift and upload a picture of it to Instagram using the hashtag #AGTN24 and tag in @sewlikedotty. If you don't want the recipient to see it, you can email it to agtnsewing@gmail. Please let Dotty know where in the world you live as some of the fabulous prizes have to be posted and therefore are UK only.
My little contribution is a fold up tote bag, made from two fat quarters (or scraps) which can be popped in a handbag or kept in the car for when you have left all the bag for life carriers at home!
the fat quarters are from a Hayley Jane box last year.
the pattern is from my own head!
I'm wearing a Pattern Emporium East Fit shirt made from a kit of fabric, buttons and thread from Jenny Stiches.
Measurements for the bag are:-
front and back 18" tall by 16" wide
tab 6" by 3"
handles 15" by 3"
Hope you like it

Thank you so much for this tutorial I cannot wait to try sewing these bags I love them and thank for notifying me that your vlog was up x
@@annethompson9154 hi Anne, you are more than welcome 😊. Hope you enjoy sewing these little bags 😘 x
A great simple sewalong project, thank you for sharing ❤
@@alisonmurray8099 I'm so glad you liked it. It is a nice little sew for when you feel like something easy 😘
Hi Alison, glad you liked it. I always have a couple of those bags in my handbag, especially for those "I won't take a bag into the shop, I'm only going in for milk" moments 😂😂
@@pinkderdlesews and we all have those moments!!
Hi, quite new to sewing, could I ask what type of fabric are you using… thanks..
Welcome to the world of sewing 😊. I was using a cotton fabric, which came in a pack of 'fat quarters'. You can pick up fat quarters in most fabric shops, or online and if you are in the UK, Aldi even sell them now and again. If you are just starting, then cotton or polycotton fabric would be ideal to begin with as it is nice and stable and doesn't move about, it's also easy to press. Quilting weight cotton fabric would also be nice to use and has some gorgeous patterns. Do let me know if you need to know anything else and good luck and have fun with your sewing 😘😘
Thank you for sharing your make 😊
@@britt_2014_uk you are very welcome, I hope its useful to you 😘
hello beautiful video please kindly film how to operate the sewing machine electric foot pedal how its used to sew and please kindly film how to unplug the sewing machine electric foot pedal and using only the start stop button being used to sew please kindly reply back ok?thank you very much 😊
Hello, I don't think I'd be very good at this, so I've found a lady on UA-cam who has covered all this for you - ua-cam.com/video/QbzSvi43QZE/v-deo.htmlsi=yPG53VyLE7ZVf8kJ This should take you to her videos which seem to cover everything you have asked for. Please have a look, see what you think? good luck 😘😘
Lovely vlog😊
Thank you so much. I think next time I'll take off that clanky bracelet 😅😘
I love watching your videos and this one was especially fun. There’s no end to what we can learn about sewing. Thanks for sharing!
I'm so glad you liked it, I was a bit nervous of doing a sewalong, but actually I really enjoyed doing it 😊
That’s a great, simple gift idea!
Glad you like it. I made myself one a couple of years ago and use it all the time😊. It's a great scrap buster too ❤
Love to see more sewalongs for small and simpel things like book covers or diffrent types of bookmarkers.
@@AnnasCreativeRoom I reckon I could do something like that 😁. I'll start having a look 😘
Excellent idea, very useful … love the sewalong … maybe a new career move ?
Oh good grief, I'm not sure the world is ready for more sewalongs from me and Jemima the Janome 😂😂😂😂😂. Glad you liked it 😘
Ooo you got the same colour way as Dee 💜💜💜
@@SistasofStitchcraft yes, I noticed that! It's lovely but I'm going to save it to the spring as it's not shouting 'winter' to me!

Your videos are just delightful! Enjoying your fun box opening from Florida 😊
Thank you so much😊. Glad you like my nonsense and I'm guessing the weather is warmer and sunnier in lovely Florida 🥰 😘
Love your shirt. Thank you for the cheerful unboxing. I’m not into surprise boxes. I prefer choosing my fabrics myself, but love the inspiration seeing what everyone makes with their fabrics
Thank you , I love this shirt too! It was especially welcome on such a grey day 😊. The fabric was from a Hayley Jane box a whole ago and I would not have bought it from a shop but, having received it, it really stretched my little brain to think what to make! I totally get that out don't like surprises, I had a subscription box from a horse related company and cancelled after two months! Much preferred to buy my pony what I needed or wanted. Happy sewing ❤
Hi Kay, I only had the SHJ box a couple of times, and the pink tartan was one of them. I didn't like it and couldn't imagine it made up. So I sold it on. Now I've seen your lovely blouse and regret selling it. 😂 Looking forward to seeing what you make with the new fabrics.
Hi, I loved the fabric when I opened the box, but like you struggled to think of what to make. Luckily for me the Cashmerette Club Haskell shirt came out not long after and it seemed the perfect match 😊. I do give some of my fabrics to friends when I know it will suit them better and I have still got some beautiful fabrics in my stash, which are waiting for me to think of the perfect pattern. Still dithering about this month's fabric.....dress? Drapey blouse? Balloon sleeved top🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔. Decisions, decisions 😘
I also found unisex patterns to be way oversized for me, which is the main reason I no longer buy unisex pattern.
@@marjawood5097 yes, I won't be buying anymore unisex. I think they come up too big on women's figures because the bust/shoulder ratio on ladies is completely different to the chest/shoulder ratio on a man 🤷♀️. Ah well, I've learned something new 😘
Absolutely love your ensemble. Love clare from new Zealand 🇬🇸🥝

Good job with the jumpsuit xx❤
@@caronlever2019 thank you Caron, it was a bit of a labour of love, but I'm really pleased with it. Just need a few more occasions to wear it again 😁😘 x
Kay, you have some lovely fabrics. Can't wait to see your makes. The charcoal suiting, in particular, caught my eye. It looks like a beautiful fabric.Better the sparkles came off the fabric all in one go than leaving a trail all over the house every time you wafted about in it! X
@@dianewilliams7931 hi Diane, I thought the same about those sparkles, the house would have been covered 😅😅.I'm so happy with my fabrics, especially that so many match together. The shop where I got the charcoal fabric had absolutely stacks of dead stock wool and wool mix suiting, all of it really good quality. 🥰😘 x
These two cottons go together really well. You could combine the remnants into a sort of patchwork top.
@@petrasouth1133 ooooo what a good idea! I'd not noticed, so thank you so much for that brilliant idea 🥰😘
Love you Kay and all your fabric choices.I am just watching before I go to work for 7.30 and it’s dark and raining so you cheered me up before that. I adore your floaty 40”s inspired fabric and I can just see the owner whipping the whole bolt off and seeing your smile he knew it was an easy sale 😂 pity the sparkles came off but I imagine even if it had been dry cleaned they still would have gone 😢 I bought some beautiful silk from Rosenberg & Son who came to Belfast for our Quilt Fayre at end of August. I am making a robe with it once I get my big knickers pulled up and tackle the silk 😅 I love your jumpsuit and made my first one for a wedding party recently and no idea why I waited so long 🤷♀️apart from the awkwardness of visiting the toilet! Must go to work now but I can’t wait to see your new makes and felt very envious of your London trip. Being in Northern Ireland we have very few fabric shops and maybe that’s a good thing as my stash is large enough 🙈 See you soon and enjoy your weekend xx
@@alisonkirk5720 so glad I helped to make the dark wet morning a bit more bearable 🙂. I was so pleased with my fabrics, and you are so right, that shop owner knew he had a sale as soon as he saw me gazing at that fabric with love 😅. A silk robe sounds amazing, you will be so proud of yourself when it's done. I'm having to put my brave pants on for all this French seaming I've let myself in for! My jumpsuit was my first one too!!! I've never even worn one before, so I'm not quite sure what possessed me to make a jumpsuit for a gala evening instead of a frock 🤷♀️. But I do love it and luckily it wasn't too bad for trips to the loo 😁. Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a lovely comment, I really enjoyed reading it and it means such a lot to me that you enjoy my wittering 😘xx
It’s always comforting to see the ups and downs along the sewing journey. ☺️ Perhaps you could sew toggles on the outside of your “oversized” coat.
@@Jenns_creative_spot Hi, I think I might leave the placket as it is and pop some velcro underneath, just to hold it flat. Glad you like the ups and downs, I think it's best to show things that go wrong! It's also meant I've got so much really helpful advice to help me next time 😁😘
Lovely fabrics and plans! Your personality always makes me smile! Happy sewing! 💖

You can use hot cystals on that fabric. They stick on using a little heated stylus. To get your bling back on if you want
@@bevtooth now that's an idea! Thank you I'll have a think about that, especially for the tunic top I want to make. Thank you 😘
Who'd have thought, burnt orange is a 'neutral', it literally went with everything you bought! xxx
@@susiewhittles2798 I know!!!! How bizarre is that 😅😅😅. I'll not be buying beige, navy, cream or white any more...from now on its burnt orange all the way 😁😘
sounds like a fun time! Love the fabrics you've chosen. I'd go for simple patterns for the bold patterned/coloured fabrics and let them shine rather than try detailed styles (ie collars and cuffs) where pattern matching might be difficult and fussy design lines will distract the eye. Will look forward to seeing these fabrics made up
@@fayeryan3699 oh it was such a fantastic weekend. I loved Goldhawk Road and will definitely go again. Good advice on the bold patterned fabric I'd not considered the pattern matching 😖😖😖. I'm definitely going to have a good think about those fabrics and suitable patterns, thank you 😘
