    Nice find and recording thereof! There are / were concrete "pads" for those 3.7 inch AA guns ans associated search-lights and rangefinder gear dotted all around the various "hills of Brisbane. Mt. Coot-tha is the obvious one as it had direct line of sight over the river all the way to the bay. There seems to have been a certain amount of effort put in to destroying or "hiding" a lot of this stuff since WW2. The big ammunition filling plant on Evans Road, Salisbury , with its special construction and distinctive roof seems to still be there, surprisingly.. During WW2, the camouflage experts built an entire plywood "fake" suburb over the top of it to confuse enemy recce aircraft. If you find .303 or 9mm ammo bearing the headstamp "MQ", it came through that Salisbury installation.. "Camp Kable" near Tambourine Mountain once housed tens of thousands of transient US service personnel. I drove around a bunch of the sealed roads in this encampment back in the mid 1970s. Pretty much all that was left were the roads. Last I heard it had disappeared under new suburbia in the 1990s.

    The Sunshine Coast was also an RAAF range. In the 80s a hole was being dug for a pool at Kawana Waters and a bomb was found at about 8 foot deep. I wonder how many are still there under all the development.

    Very interesting guys , I grew up in pine rivers and still remember some of the war relics still here in the 60s , we lived on Gympie Rd in Strathpine near Learmonth st , I used to go fishing at the quarry at the creek down there , there was still an old Army Tank an the edge of the quarry we used to play on , we used to go exploring a lot back then , there was the remains of a the camp up the hill on Kremzow Rd , there was heaps of concrete slabs left , mush later a mate bought a house on Gordons Crossing Rd not far from where you guys are in this vlog , he found an old well that was full of old rusty army stuff like ammo tins , helmets , broken tools , all sorts of bits and pieces , they used to have signs all the way up Sampsonvale Rd up to Clear mt warning not to go into the paddocks because of the unexposed bombs still there , people were finding them for years and reporting them to the police which told the army which would come out and detonate them , my sister and her mate were on the Clear mountain lookout once playing CB radios and some trail bike riders found one and thought it a good idea to throw rocks at it , needless to say it went off , didn't kill them but they got hurt .

Up the road a bit (going north) there was other army stuff ( remains of buildings) I found years ago, that spot is in between the play ground and the old quarry, So much stuff was buried in that whole area when they thought the Japanese was going to come through, local people have even found WW2 stuff in their buried in their yards.

    • @t-rocks1960
      @t-rocks1960 2 місяці тому

      Hey Cam, Nope, It's had a severe sara-lee treatment, folded and folded and folded again over a few hundred million years. Then that area got squished between the Samford and Enoggera volcanics as well. The only thing around then was bony fishes and sharks, and it was deep ocean sediments. But a lot of the silicon for the quartz came from a microbes called radiolarians, so its kinda a fossil. Interestingly, all those layers were deposited horizontally, flat, but look at them now, all twisted and tilted.
