What's that "b" word when people borrow lots of money to make risky investments and / or buy stuff that does not appreciate in value, like cars, big screen TV's and holidays? In my lifetime we've had at least 2 never-ending growth parties, the problem is, for some reason no one seems to remember, they both ended. You know, there is only two places money comes from: taking out credit from a bank, which has to be paid back one day; and money creation by the government (through deficit spending) that never needs to be paid pack by anyone. Both have their downsides when taken to excess, but only one reliably leads to the b word, recessions and market collapses. Please refer to the cause of the 2008 market collapse for a clue.

IMO I believe no matter what this government (or Labour when it gets back in) does, this figure is not going to go down by any significant measure in the next 5 to 10 years with a probable tariff war (if not more real wars) about to start under tRUMP's government. Your claim that the tax deduction for landlords is a gravy trin for them is based on ignorance. That tax deduction was available for every business when they made a business investment because their inclome had dropped as a result. It was taken away from residential property investors under the previous government due to that Government's hatred of landlords. Funny though, that they allowed Kainga Ora and motels providing accommodation for Work and Income clients to continue claiming that deduction.

I think it's weird that the rich can pay advisers who tell them how to invest their money to pay the least tax , and the payments for this advise is tax deductable.

If you increase tax for companies and the rich (business owners), it just simply gets added to production costs, and the end user (consumer) pays for it.

Narrow minded. Complaining GST and income tax are lower than expected? Thats because inflation is rampant, NZ's growth is down the down the toilet and businesses are hurting. Who pays the most GST and employs the people that pay income tax? Businesses. Businesses are closing down everywhere in NZ, no wonder you cant collect income tax or GST. If the ecoonomy was strong and there was growth in NZ you could tax a lower rate on both GST and income tax and still take more in total $ - 20% of 1billion is more than 30% of 500million. You need to grow the pot as well rather than just try to take more from the pot. Take, take, take is a road to disaster that will never stimulate growth when you drive out all the businesses and people that make money and employ people. Will leave you asking to take even more from the smaller pot in years to come.

if you need a new bed and you have major health issues and winz refuse to buy you a new one.. u get a letter from your doctor stating why you need a new bed etc.. and then you go in and you tell winz you will not get a 2nd hand bed also due to your health but you know know if anyone has died on that bed.. nor do u know if there will be bedbugs/scabies etc. then u go for a bed that suits u.. bed = base and mattress. if they refuse u can then get social worker to walk in with you and they have to help. also dont forget that everyone is able to have $150 a year for clothes. you are entitled to without paying them back.. (the bed you wil have to pay back, like $1 to 50 cents a week. ) the govt have got rid of budget advisory services which has been a really stupid move. they were telling the public what they were eligible for and all that useful information.

ACC levies on motorbike riders...... think about how many motorbike on road accidents there are per year ??? does that really relate to the cost ??? now take into account alot of motorbike riders also own cars (i in fact own two) what i understand what acc on road motorbike riders covers is.... pushbike riders, horse riders ???, motocross riders and the biggest farmers and their quads..... how is that fair ?? if you own it, you own it make farmers reg all their vehicles and cover their own arses, also if you use the road you pay regardless, stop taxing the few to cover the many. get ACC to show the "actual stats"

This channel and its favoured guests will never ever ask whether we pay to much in benefits to too many for too long....or suggest changes to encourage entrepreneurs to come here or to grow. Their mindset is who can we take more from? This is a sad and depressing way to look at the issues we have. As for inheritance tax....I practiced in this area in the UK ....the reality is it is mostly paid by the middle class...there are always loopholes the rich to use...and powerful lobbyists to get special exempetions. The real beneficiaries are lawyers and accountants...it will be a feeding franzy. The cost of implementing and running it will be massive. As per most of Chloe's wonderful ideas......they hurt those she wants to help and helps those she despises. I wish the Greens could stop trying to be communists and stick to green issues....and when doing so be practical. Perhaps new leadership is required with people who have run businesses before.

The people I think Chloe should be having an economics discussion with ON THIS SHOW are: Prof Steve Keen; Dr Stephen Hail and / or Prof Bill Mitchell. I'm kind of sick of seeing politician debate each other, because nothing ever comes of it. You cannot tax the rich enough to be able to implement all of the progressive policies you want to put in place if you believe you must collect tax in order to pay for all the things the govt wants to do. Tinkering around with CGT / inheritance tax etc is pointless if you think you are doing so in order to be able to pay for schools, hospitals social housing, green infrastructure, ferries etc. The left will never be able to afford all the things it wants to do if it thinks it must fund it all by taxing every dollar they spend. Can't be done and it will always lead to progressive governments disappointing the voters and being booted out of government.
