    What the libertarians perhaps have failed to grasp is government spending stimulates economic growth...BUT only if it's on things that help the private sector improve output. Key things that help the private sector improve economic outputs: better educated people; healthier people; continual improvement in infrastructure; reliable, plentiful and low cost energy supply; a healthy environment. None of these things should be completely exposed to the free market, because they are critical needs for the entire society. But under the neoliberal ideology which everyone to the right of the Greens operates to government has been underinvesting in these critical elements for decades, the chickens are coming home to roost and the free market isn't going to fix things.

    This like a doctor seeing someone that's been in a serious accident and lost a lot of blood so they get out the leeches. The only thing is this serves to do is further weaken the NZ economy to enable David's wealthy foreign mates to come in and buy us out a bargain basement prices.

    How much is the Government spending on the landlords. Have any MP'S been made redundant from their positions. Maybe Luxon can do video chats instead of traveling around the world. Come on Seymour keep it real.😊😊

      The government's move to reinstate interest deductibility for landlords is actually a tax break, not a direct spending measure. By allowing landlords to claim mortgage interest as a business expense, the government is effectively reducing their taxable income
      .
      Initially, the previous government's decision to disallow interest deductibility led to higher taxes for landlords, which were then passed on to tenants in the form of increased rents - to the tune of $170 on average. This added to the already significant cost of living pressures faced by many Kiwis.
      The current government's reversal of this policy aims to ease the tax burden on landlords, which will help stabilize rents and provide relief to tenants.

    He will achieve it through that wonderful dictum of: 'You will have nothing and you will be happy'. When they took weapons off us we lost a huge part of what we are going to need. The slide is on, it makes no matter the party. Many years ago it was said NZ is 20 years behind the rest of the world - I pleased that is the case now but the slide is on and things are going to get very wobbly indeed.

    • @danielphillips4399
      @danielphillips4399 6 днів тому +1

      Let's call a spade a spade - the previous Labour-led administration was a masterclass in reckless spending. The iRex and Dunedin hospital rebuild projects are perfect examples, with costs ballooning by billions of dollars. It's appalling that they had such blatant disregard for taxpayer money.
      Meanwhile, the current government is actually trying to make some tough decisions to get spending under control. They're attempting to reel in the out-of-control borrowing and spending that defined the previous administration's tenure. It's about time someone took responsibility for the nation's finances and started making some prudent decisions.
      But let's not forget, the previous administration's spending spree has left the country with a hefty debt bill. The interest payments alone are staggering, and it's only going to get worse if someone doesn't take the reins. It's time for some fiscal accountability and a serious dose of reality.

  • @danielphillips4399
    @danielphillips4399 6 днів тому +1

    Seymour's comments on the current economic situation are spot on. With years of deficit budgets looming, it's crucial for the government to tighten its purse strings. The government must prioritize wise spending of taxpayer dollars, focusing on areas that will boost the economy and increase tax revenues. This means making sensible sacrifices and cutting back on non-essential spending.
    In fact, New Zealand's current economic situation is alarming, with the government's spending increased by 80% during the previous Labour led governments reign.
    To achieve fiscal responsibility, the government should consider cutting wasteful spending, shrinking the bureaucracy, and implementing a more efficient tax system. By making these changes, the government can ensure that taxpayer dollars are being used effectively to benefit the economy and the people.

      BHN's coverage is a joke, serving up a relentless stream of one-sided propaganda. They're like a broken record, opposing every single move the National-led government makes, no matter how reasonable or well-intentioned. It's all just a never-ending cycle of criticism and disdain, with no attempt whatsoever to provide balanced reporting or thoughtful analysis. Their obvious bias is not only exhausting but also undermines their credibility.
