Why should police trust a former gun lobbyist who won't involve the police association and who tried to delete the official advice from police that she didn't like from public record? J. Tame
How many guns do you own, Nicole McKee.? I believe Ms McKee's appointment is an absolute conflict of interest. She is a known gun lobbyist. If one's need to own a gun is honest , one will have no objection to registering it, whether it is a 22 or a pistol.
I'm a licensed firearms owner, I have no objection to registering my firearms, only people who want to keep hidden what firearms they have, will have objections. I also see no need for a regular firearms holder and user to have a need for a military style firearm. If they reintroduce military style firearms, against police recommendations, then if the Government should be held liable for any shootings involving a military style firearm.
So , unless a plan is perfect we will spend no money on it - unless ,of course, it is an imperfect plan that we will spend money on , like Casey Costello's anti-smoking plan or Kare C-hour's anti-violence plan. Two kids murdered this week - how's it going karen?
Her biggest lobbyists , the firearms retailers , were recently found to have corrupt employees. I'm sure she will be fine with them having to pay for more stringent security compliance rules along the lines of what security companies and locksmiths have to comply with
Simple If a Gun is used in a crime: 100% extra time or 5 years minimum, if you are a gang member or affiliate Extra 15 year on top of the crime conviction. A new law stating a Gang member or affiliate is not allowed to own a gun, 5 years jail time if they are caught with a gun.
Because people don't hack the data base to steal cars, its not worth the risk as cars not only have registration numbers all cars have vinz numbers too along with chassis numbers and engine numbers which are taken down every time you register your car or when a wof is done making it far easier to track a stolen car or engine .....Guns have one registration number is in criminal hands they file this number off and commit ....your choice here and being more sort after by criminals thus easy to steal from a register ....Police have already lost a list of firearms when a station was closed down recently and copys in paper where left behind ,later turned up in a gang raid only last year ....
Registration database's are not that hard or difficult to secure. Vehicle registration for example. When was it last hacked and all the owners of high value cars dumped onto the dark web?
The first security measure is not letting the police be responsible for the data . They are inept: "Alan James Harris was charged with burglary after the guns - including an illegal semi-automatic weapon - were taken from a secure area in the police station. He pleaded guilty to the charges in July and was sentenced today in the Palmerston North District Court. Harris was walking past the police station on 25 April when he looked over the fence and saw a garage door was open. He kicked down a door to the exhibits room, and took 26 firearms, some ammunition, and some cannabis outside, putting them over a fence into a property next door. Harris left to get his car and came to load the guns, but was interrupted by police. He made an escape with nine of the guns, as well as ammunition, and cannabis"
Registry is pointless when people who use weapons with no serial is concerned... Which is the actual point of it in the first place because that guy was allowed to come over here an kill a whole bunch of peaceful religious people... even then thatbin its self is a disgusting deep dive, that im pretty sure as a kiwi im not even legally allowed to talk about... but legal weapons in the hands of law abiding citizens is the issue. Yeah right
@kiwihib My comment you mean?, Well a registry only matters for people who register, but it means nothing to someone or a group of people with illegal firearms and a job to do
Jack Tame is the WRONG person to be asking these questions, Clearly, he has his own agenda on firearms and doesn't like firearms or these changes, so try's talking over her, any other person he interviews he doesn't do this with ... Both murdered by relatives so not much has changed. This behaviour is generational and cant be turned around because of a 'plan'

If "steal to order" is happening the police need to get the firearms storage requirements enhanced.
They wont though, because it feeds the agenda whatever that may be
Or catch the crims ,or stop leaking information to the crims.
