That plug is soo far from perfect scale and size
the 5 sites you showed in the beginning are sites i have already been using and are lacking majorly in every category i want to check off when searching for cosplay 3d files. star wars, pokemon, destiny 2 etc...
How did you cut a section out? When I use meshmixer and do a plane cut, it just cuts it when I put the plane. It doesn't let me create a section. It just makes 2 halves
Do 2 separate cuts. Do your first cut and then do a second one just below. If you say keep both both times you will end up with a section in the middle.
I can't believe I didn't think of that lol. Thank you so much
Very useful tute, and great to see an Aussie lady who can speak clearly and intelligently. Love it.
Thanks for the feedback and glad it was helpful 😀 proud Aussie here haha
I’m honestly so lost whether it’s best with this red hood rebirth mask I wanna print if I should have it right on my ears but too loose everywhere else, or squeeze my ears and stuff in 😵💫
I would say it depends on how much you will wear it. If it's just for short stints it probably ok to squeeze it. If you are wearing it all day for a cosplay then comfort is key. If it is tight or hurts at the start it's only going to get worse.
This was the perfect video I needed, I'm an underage cosplayer trying to cosplay nikolai gogol and i felt bad that I wasn't making the cosplay from scratch that is mainly because of resources and skill, I can sew but my abilities are limited but i absolutely suck at drawing, though I've decided that I'm going to buy the cosplay and modify it slightly to make it more unique
That's fantastic. It's definitely ok to buy and then work up slowly with your skills. Even if you are just modifying it or building props to go along with your cosplay. Good luck with your cosplay, have fun!
@@AstrocyteCosplay thank you
Guilty as suggested at beginning of video. I’m here after 18 hours printing lol
It happens to the best of us. Even after some experience printing helmets, sometimes things just go wrong. Did you have any more luck with your second attempt?
hello! the link doesnt work anymore, and i cant seem to access their patreon. is there any way i can get these files? thank you!
So sorry. He did actually stop patreon unfortunately. This is the armour set link. www.cgtrader.com/3d-print-models/hobby-diy/other/moon-knight-helmet-and-armor-set. You may be able to message him direct and see if you can buy the weapons if that's what you are chasing. This is also his Instagram instagram.com/bionicarmory?igsh=dzFlenFvZW8yNTRo
It no longer works!
I don't know any Flexbond alternatives in my country T-T So im stuck with my Plasti dip alternative, Elastic Dip
Oh that's a shame. I haven't heard of Elastic Dip but I'm sure it works like plasti dip and I really do like it still. Have to use what you can get.
Thanks for posting this. I needed to upscale a hole but I needed to measure the diameter first. Thanks.
No worries. Glad it was helpful 😊
I wish I had found this video a few days ago. I watched a video, did everything the person told me and the helmet I started printing was definitely never going to fit my head and I could not figure out what I did wrong or what I missed...but this is so genius and I'm really grateful
Sizing can definitely be a challenge! Sometimes I don't get it right either. Hopefully this might be an easier way for you, make sure you let me know how you get on! I like to do this then print a test ring (detailed in my other video on scaling helmets).
@@AstrocyteCosplay So far so good! I am having to print the top half of the helmet in quarters because of size of my bed but what I've had going so far looks really good.
Awesome! So glad to hear that 😊 what helmet are you printing and what printer do you have?
Really, really freakin cool!
I was happy with how they turned out. Would make them slightly bigger next time!
What are you working on now? We'd love to see your projects and more how-to!!
I have finished this sword and have a video on the works (see my community post) but had a few health problems so that's taken my focus for a bit.
"Embrace your nerd!" Love it!
Trying to make this a channel catchphrase, what do you think? When I was younger I never had anyone that really understood nerdy stuff (especially being female) and enjoyed superheros, PS games etc so it's great to be able to bring people together here that love this stuff too!
You're a freakin rockstar Tracey! Thanks so much for the clear instruction, and for keeping it "rookie-level" enough for those of getting started!
Thanks for the amazing comment. Really appreciate the time you took. Glad it helped and definitely let me know if there is anything else you would like some help with.
This was great (and EXACTLY what I was looking for)! Thanks for sharing!

thanks!

I feel like now there is this lovely yearly holiday tradition of MatPat causing chaos in the kitchen which some unhinged recipe😂❤
No joke, thank you. Just found the 3d printer to buy and now I have a better idea of how to start. 🤙🏽
So glad to hear! Definitely ask any questions as you go. What printer did you decide to buy?
@@AstrocyteCosplay thanks! I'm getting the Bambu p1s
That's awesome. You won't be disappointed! I have a P1P now aswell and it's so fast. Absolutely loving it.
@@myceliumforall619 How's your Bambu P1 holding up?
SUCH A WONDERFUL SUPER-POWERED & SUPER-DRESSED FAMILY 💛💙❤💗
Thanks. It's lots of fun!
With that head model. when you put in the Z size for your head wouldn't that be a little bit off because that model has a neck where measuring your head its from chin to top of head?
Yes you are correct. With a lot of the helmets I'm not normally as worried about the z as I scale with uniform measurements (to keep portions looking correct) so as long as X and Y fit that's the main thing I am worried about. You can definitely factor in the neck section if you want it to be more accurate.
Your video came up in a search for "measure in Cura". Cosplay is not my thing but it is so great to click on a video and here another Aussie's voice come through, thanks for the vid and all the best.
Hi! Thanks for taking the time to comment. Always love fellow Aussies finding the channel and videos. 3D printing is cool regardless of it being cosplay or not. Enjoy your printing 😊
Damn. Thanks.
You are most welcome 😊
That's nice
Thanks!
Both Cosplay Callipers links are not found, where are they ?
Thanks for the heads up! Really appreciate it. I have updated the links so check if they work for you now. It's also on Printables here : www.printables.com/model/14099-cosplay-calipers Good luck and happy printing!
Great video! Im wanting to get into cosplay and this video is definitely getting referred to as I go!
Great to hear! Definitely ask any questions that you have 😊
Yes, but why make this when you can buy a functioning one that looks exactly like this
Because it's fun and creative and I can now say I made that. There is definitely some personal satisfaction with making it yourself but it's also ok to buy things if you don't want to make them. Each cosplayer can cosplay how they like 😊
R u dumb
meanwhile Plasti Dip in my country was about hundreds bucks of our currency here and its so expensive😅😢
Oh wow, yep that's super expensive. I thought it was bad in Australia. Is Flexbond (or similar product in your country) more affordable?
what if model doesnt fit in Cura box? is there away to cut in pieces without resizing?
Yes there definitely is. There is a plug in in Cura now called Mesh tools that allows you to do this. Otherwise I normally use Meshmixer or 3D builder. Here is the video I did on doing it in 3D builder but if you prefer Meshmixer that video is also on the channel. ua-cam.com/video/W10lv44ebic/v-deo.html

Thanks for your efford. About scale.. YOu showed how to make bigger object but I have problem with making objects smaller.. I need 1/6 scale so I enter 0,16 for X+Y+Z and do not works.. So I enter for example 0,5 or other <1 value and do not work... Help please
Hi, 0.16 should definitely work for 1/6 scale. It's a little hard not seeing what you are doing but if you are in meshmixer, under transform you need to put in 0.16 in the "scale X" box and if uniform scaling is on it will scale the model smaller. I have just done it myself in meshmixer to test it. Can I ask are you using 0.16 or 0,16. It needs to be a decimal not a comma. If you are still having problems message me on Instagram as you will be able to send me a photo this way or I can send you a short video. Hope this helps.
@@AstrocyteCosplay thanks. I use decimal. And after typing value and click enter to confirm - zero values appears....and model disappears from screen.
Maybe try zooming in? Maybe the model is really small now and you just can't see it but it's there? I did it with a helmet to test it.
good morning ... how do I scale a batman helmet?
What particular problem are you having? The tips in this video should work for Batman too though lots of Batman cosplayers tend to use a flexible material so it fits nice and snug to your face. Also have this video on scaling that might also help. ua-cam.com/video/8wgkL-IdFnU/v-deo.html
My stuff is measuring several hundred MM incorrectly. I just printed something that said it was 289 and it was 33.2
If you need something super accurate you might be better using something like fusion 360. For cosplay props a few mm is never going to matter as people are not going to be measuring your prop. Also it could be your actual machine as it can print differently based on the calibration of your machine. You could try printing a calibration cube and seeing if that comes out the correct measurements and that will tell you if it's your machine.
Thank you for this video! I'm not totally a cosplayer but use my 3D print for alot of stuff and this helped me understand how to use the measure tool!
Glad it was helpful. Can be used for so many things in 3D printing and not just cosplay 😊
Thank you, this was a total game/life changer. I have been fighting with scaling, even when I use mm in CAD and dimension things right. I did find that if you scale your print to 1000% uniformly it is usually a 1:1 ratio. Now I can check. As they should start saying. "Measure twice, print once." :) Thank you for sharing this plug-in.
I'm glad it was so useful 😃
Amazing 👏
Thanks 😄
How is plasti dip over flexbond/hexflex??
Not entirely sure of your question, sorry. Are you asking if you can put plastidip over Flexbond?
@AstrocyteCosplay thanks for replying, and sorry, yes i mean how does plasti dip bond/look if you put it over flexbond?? If you even know :D
I actually haven't tried that myself. You would have to test it out. If you do definitely report back with how it went! I'm curious.
@Astrocyte Cosplay i might, i thought of doing it as a way to smooth+seal the foam before plasti dip.. does flexbond fill gaps/seams a little bit? Cus it seems plasti dip does not
No flexbond won't really fill your gaps. To seal the foam I normally use a heat gun that closes up the pores in the foam. You can use something like Kwik seal (I use a variation of this that I can get in Australia) or even foam clay to seal the gaps and seams.
I am sorry but your channel is criminally overlooked! ;) Followed for sure and keep up the great work! :)
Appreciate the kind works 😊 Glad the video was helpful. Thanks for the sub, please let me know if there is anything in particular you would like to see on the channel. Appreciate you.
Thank you!! This is my first commission cosplayed piece. Printing with Ender 3 V2
That's awesome, well done. Hope your customer loves it 😀
thanks for the info, i hated plasti dip to do props as a kid and waiting forever for it to dry lol
No problems! Would love to hear what you think of Flexbond if you give it a try.
Most important thing, go and have fun! Number one, have fun. Be proud of your cosplay...stay away from thed toxic cosplay snobs. Be supportive of everyone. I was hoping toad would win...glad you enjoyed it.
100% agreed. Some excellent points you mention here. At least Toad didn't come last like me! 🤣 I always play as Yoshi or Toad in the so I can understand that.
~ QUESTION FOR COSPLAYERS ~ Who will win the Mario Kart race? Leave a guess here and see if you are correct at the end of the video!
I don't even have that little measure icon in my toolbar on the left...
You have to install it from Marketplace. The first part of the video shows you how to find it in Marketplace and how to install it. Goodluck 😊
@@AstrocyteCosplay Did that. Restarted, and don't have that icon anywhere. Edit: I accidentally installed "Mesh Tool" hah, got it working now. Thanks for making me double check!
Haha glad you got it working in the end! Was thinking to myself that was very strange 😂
Brilliant in its simplicity. Thank you! Definitely earned a sub!
Thankyou so much. Appreciate your support and so glad you found it simple and helpful. Let me know if there is anything else that you are having trouble with. 🙂
Fyi you may have to hold down the shift key to get the second point in Cure 5.2.1 .

Glad it's helpful. No method is perfect but all tools to help us. Can combine different methods. Make sure you check out my other video too on sizing as it might help as well. Good luck!
@@AstrocyteCosplay Assume something similar could be done for gloves and forearm braces etc using a model of a hand or even arm.
Yeah I'm sure that definitely possible and worth testing out. I personally haven't tried that yet. I tend to measure with cosplay calipers and Meshmixer for those type of armour pieces.
I'm actually a 3D artist, I want to use a 3D printer for 3D concepting.
Wow, that sounds like a cool idea!
