Great review. These are my daily headphones amid many others on my wall. To add, if anyone is interested. As sure as Beni was on the wrong side of the river, these are in my opinion the best headphones for gaming. Impeccable imaging and a wide soundstage. I feel I never miss a sound and very comfortable for long playthroughs. I use the 32 ohm mostly for gaming and my 80ohms from the late 80's for music. Built like a tank.

Listening to your channel on modified 32ohm version - Replaced cable with jack port to have different cable length or one with attached microphone for video calls.
I also have 80ohn and I can confirm that are more comfortable, because they have less pressure to your head. They are compensating with this to "sound the same" 🙂

I own the 600 ohm 770s and have owned a more modern 80 ohm in the past. they are pretty great just super unforgiving I love using them for finding recording issues but as a open back enjoyer I almost never use them unfortunately.

I've been using Audio Technica headphones for many years and really liked the ATM-H50 but eventually got fed up with having the leatherette on the headband and ear pads disintegrate every few years into zillions of little back specks that would mess up the place. Both were available as spares but changing the headband was a major PITA.
A few years ago, I got myself a Beyerdynamic Headzone Pro XT (headphone amp with built-in 5-channel HRTF processor) that came with a DT770 Pro and a DT880 Pro. I've never looked back.
My preference clearly is the semi-open DT880 Pro. I don't really like closed cans, and fortunately I don't need them, but the 770 is a great choice for people who do.

got a pair of Senn HD 600 and that was a MISTAKE for live booth stuff. Open ear headphones. Great for mixing though! These close ears I've been eyeing at my local sound store for awhile and your review has tipped me into nabbing em.

Since you are a fellow nerd I’m going to give you an Actually… post here.
You can measure headphones pretty easily and take audio samples. You just need binaural microphones. You can put the headphones on and capture the sound as if it’s going into your own ears.
You can also get a mannequin head type rig to capture if you’d rather do it that way! I use a set that’s been discontinued by sennheiser called the ambeo which plugs straight into an iPhone that is super cool. Alas, they never caught on.
But other options are out there on the market. Good for comparing the sound between two different headphones as you would on a mic review.
Thanks for the review! I have these as well, but mine are modded to accept an external cable which I love.
I also have the 80 ohm version and agree you get a great balance with them, you can use them on a phone if you want to. But they do sound best on an amp with some power.

    • @TheRecordist
      @TheRecordist  2 місяці тому

      Hey! Thanks for the comment!
I actually do own a couple of pairs of binaural mics. And I have tried them to test headphones. The result was awful. You can hear the results when I reviewed the Shure headphones some months back. While you can clearly hear the differences between the three I tested, the sound was very ugly.
      Thanks for the tip!

@@TheRecordist hmmm interesting! I’ll have to try some of those tests again. Makes sense you wouldn’t use them if the results were bad. There are reviewers who have gotten pretty good results out of them though, I’ll let you know if I can get some decent results and give you feedback. Thanks for all you do, love your videos and humor.

Loved my 32 ohm DT 770 Pro’s but switched to Neumann NDH-20’s for their utter neutral sound. Turns out they are so neutral that everything sounded awful through them. I got the NDH-20’s and a Lauten Audio LS-208 mic at the same time and HATED the sound of that mic. So dull and lifeless. I randomly tried an old set of Bose QC 35’s I had buried in a box of junk and that mic sounded amazing! WTH? I’d sold my DT 770’s and decided to try the DT 700 Pro X’s and I’m never taking them off. Even better than my old DT 770’s.

Ahhh... too bad for me, but I have two earphone hooks loaded with two headphones each already (the Sony 7506, Austrian Audio HX-15, Rode NTH 100 and a cheap Shure pair I got free from B&H) and I know that if I buy another pair they'd fall off from one of the hooks and onto the floor. However, FED-EX just delivered my Roswell K87! Can't wait to give it a whirl! And when ordering, I let Roswell know I am buying it after watching your video (same with STAM, which is shipping in October). So, my audio locker thanks you and I thank you!
