    QUESTION : Do you ever set challenges for your photography?

    • @siofna9709
      @siofna9709 Місяць тому +1

      Hello Guido
      Not realy, but yesterday we had a sunny afternoon I had half an hour and I was near of one of my favorite locations, so I shot details there. Your double exposure work very well :-).

      I've done the standard ones I can think of, a day with a single prime, a day out with a fisheye, use the wrong lens (like you using the 150-400 for landscapes, but also ultrawides and fisheyes for portraits.
      Wrong settings.
      This year, it's "bad photos." Everything you can think of that you're taught is bad, that's what I'm doing.

      Thanks ernest. Sometimes it really helps just to look at things in a different perspective. But I have to say that I hate these time challenges. They give me stress on doing something that normally gets the stress out of my system. Thanks for watchibg grt guido

    • @GuidoVanDeWater

      I agree that you should not do what is "taught". A few years i went to a presentation of a different photographer and the first thing she said was. "If you want good images then it has to comply to 3 things, it has to be wide angle, it has to be 100 percent in focus and is has to have foreground midground and background" so I thought uh ok then I must be doing something wrong. In my opinion photography is a creative process and something that's creative can't have rules or restrictions. There are some guidelines. But everyone has to explore for themselves what the boundaries are and how far they want to go.

      I think it really helped that I was there a day earlier also. I knew exactly where I wanted to go. Unfortubatly I could not make the tree that I had in mind so I have to get back there on another foggy day. Still lots of exploring around there. Thanks for watching and your feedback. Grt guido

    Great autumn colors and conditions. Loved that one with the path, straightforward shot but the fog and colors just make it. Amusing to see you rushing and speed walking 😂 things we do to get photos and squeezing in the time huh. Can tell why it’s one of your favorite woodlands, thats amazing. I liked the shot with the focus stacked foreground, quite clean. I also prefer the tree with more negative space, a lot more mysterious. I’d probably try placing it center for symmetry and shoot a bit wider for even more negative space. great double exposure experimental shot.

      Thanks for your comment. It's funny that comments go all the way on this video. Some like it, and some don't like anything, haha. It's great to see that photography is so subjective to taste, and that's a good thing. Else, we will all be producing the same shots, and that would be boring. Thanks for watching grt guido

    Maybe there is a hidden subject in your Video, the fact that you take the time to go out in the woods before you have an appointment. I myself take the time to stop on my way to work or during business trips. I had to learn to do this but nowadays I considered it as extra, unexpected hobby time and sometimes you are able to get that great shot like you did.

    • @GuidoVanDeWater

      I kind of have to opinions on this theory. On one side I love to use every second available to do and practice photography. On the other hand I hate to feel rushed. I'm terrible with handeling stress. Gigantic burn-out / depression a few years ago has probably ruined that for the the rest of my life. So I try to avoid stressfull moments. Photograohy helps me to keep calm and get away from the stress. So if I give myself not enough time to do it I much rather not go even it could cost me a great shot. During this trip I made an exception and I know it doesn't show it in the video but i felt absolute crap due to the rushing around. Thanks for watching. Grt guido

      @@GuidoVanDeWater I just bought a Lumix G9 II. It came with a Lumix Leica 9mm F1.7. If I go astro, that's the lens. I have the Lumix 7-14 F4. Like the Olympus lens, it's pregnant. Hi res on the G9 II is better, it's easier to set up, it's faster, and I get a standard resolution file plus the high res file. If stitching fails, I still have the standard file, my OM-5 and E-M1x give nothing. OTOH the Lumix doesn't do live ND. Different cameras for different purposes, I'll use both, while I have the strength.

    • @GuidoVanDeWater
      @GuidoVanDeWater  Місяць тому +1

      The om-1 high res files are all raw ( orf ) and they are compatible in lightroom. The om-1 mkI high res files are also raw ( orf ) but only compatible when you use the 14 bit instead of 12 bit! Lightroom does not open the 12 bit files but the better 14 bit files work perfectly. Works all the time for me so if someone says it doesn't work then they do something wrong. Hope this helps! @@GuidoVanDeWater Thank you Guido, I am really gratefull for these informations.
      And at the end, I'd like to share my life-thoughts which from time to time I like, to I ask to myself, and this time I was questioning, why shooting with "really good camera", could give worse overall feelings from shooting, than surprisingly shooting with "worse camera".
      And my deep answer was, that with worse camera we have less expectations, and if the image comes good, you are happy about what you get.
      But with high end camera, you invest money with already big expecations to achive certain results, and if results are not as we would like them to be, like what we visualized before buying a gear, it can really demotivate mentally from going outside.
      I think OM System is against the second one. I don't say it's worse (☝! it's a metaphore), but people around on social medias build up a lot of expectations from full-frame high end cameras, then one day they buy OM System saying their old gear wasn't sold but they don't use it anymore either way and they use smaller sensor more often. And indeed I can see this tendency with people who changed their systems for OM System.
