    Ideas for rules to add to the wheel:
    - Heatwave: nobody can move except towards water. Armies must hold or move to a territory that is strictly closer (in number of territories) to water. Fleets must hold or move to a water territory.
    - Conway's Game of Life: After the fall adjudication, every unoccupied non-SC territory with exactly three units on its surrounding territories becomes an SC.
    - Proxy war: the two biggest powers (by number of SCs) can each pick one smaller power, which gets one extra army or fleet to place on a territory of their colour. At the end of the year, the normal rules for disbanding are followed, so the chosen proxies are incentivised to take a new SC immediately.
    - Unrest at home: any units not currently on or bordering a territory of the same colour are moved back home (onto territories of that colour) to deal with domestic trouble.
    - UN Arbitration: At the end of the upcoming phase, any territories where two players bounced will be awarded to one of those players, chosen by majority of votes from all players. If more than one territory needs to be voted on, the votes must be entered by message to the GM for all territories at once, so the outcome of one vote can't influence another. No press is allowed before voting.
    - Redrawing the borders: before the next turn, players get the chance to exchange any SCs they hold (except their own home SCs) for an equal number of SCs held by another player if both parties agree. This exchange happens instantly, so there is no room for promises or betrayal. Any units currently occupying these SCs get moved to their owner's new SCs.
    - Temporary cease-fire: for one phase, units cannot (attempt to) move into territories of another colour, not even to bounce.
    - Rampant piracy / KRAKEN ATTACK: any fleets remaining out at sea at the end of the spring phase get destroyed. The owner has to wait till the build phase to rebuild their forces.
    - Chinese whispers: players are randomly put on an ordered list and can only communicate with the player before and/or after them on that list. The first and last on the list can also communicate.
    - Impatient diplomats: players get only a fraction (1/4 or even 1/5) of the usual time to communicate and enter their orders.

    Howdy you all! The English player here. This was such a fun a chaotic game to play in. This is the first variant game I've played and it was great! Can't wait to see how the wheel evolves and watch the chaos unfold. And yes this is a repost. I'm a fucking idiot and sent the old comment on the wrong account. Whoops! Spoilers below:
    God, everything about Russia that game was fucking awesome, from them being stabbed at the start to their resurgence near the end of the game. Second France, I think that backstab was great, and I can't believe I let you lie to me every turn after that and still gave you chances every turn. This was one of the first games I played that I don't think I played like a rat, and I have to say. Being the rat is incredibly fun, so gonna return to that. ;p

    as someone who doesn't play and just finds it interesting to see you and ezio talk about strats and stuff, being able to listen to how those negotiations go is really interesting. Although, hearing russia speak immediately after the first move made me kind of sad. i don't think I'd have the right temperament to play the game myself

    • @DiploStrats
      @DiploStrats  5 місяців тому +44

      Yeah... I've never been good at those post-stab discussions, and I'm not really sure how to make anything any better there. Diplomacy is a bit of a brutal game because it's very natural for at least one person not to be having fun.
      That said, Russia's arc this game was nothing short of legendary, so in retrospect I think he's probably fine with it having gone that way!

      Heya, the Russia for this game here,
      While it did suck being lied to and stabbed so hard so quickly, I ended up having more fun in this game than any game I played in before.
      Being a wildcard is satisfying in its own way.

      If I do this style of video for more games in future I'll try to keep a sandbox open with my current thoughts on moves in them. I was planning to 'confessionalise' a bit in this one - mute myself and talk to the audience - but I found I basically never got the chance to outside of phasing times! Too much negotiation going on.

    • @DerVarg
      @DerVarg 5 місяців тому +1

      @@DiploStrats yeah, voice games (with 15 mins timer) leave almost no room for sth like that.
      Idk how long into the future you think in Diplo, but maybe put these thoughts in the Vid too (like in '01 "I want to contain Turkey in their home centers, maybe kill them" or sth), if that's not too much effort and still remembered.
      I really do hope there will be more videos where you or Ezio is playing in real time, as I find it very interesting to see how an experienced player thinks and negotiates (and potentially how often and when your goals shift).

    the grandest LAN chaos diplomacy idea actually could be fun, but the best way, I think, would be to make it so that every player eliminated joins the team of the person who eliminated them, controlling one unit. The bigger you get, the harder ti is to stay together.

    4:11:29 you don't really need italy assistance, because Germany can't support both Warsaw and Moscow with Livonia, so it all relies on a guess. But that attack requires Romania unit, which means it can't help in Balkans

    • @DiploStrats
      @DiploStrats  5 місяців тому +3

      Yeah, I did not think Italy was going to leave Serbia alone under any circumstances, and given the situation around Venice there wasn't a way to both go for Mos and to make sure I held everything. In retrospect, maybe I could have gotten away with it if I'd lied to Italy about going to Venice, so they wouldn't cover and I wouldn't need the Tri unit for support there? But I suspect they would have protected it anyway.
