Bloodlines my beloved. Grew up on this one and could always reach the leaning tower but never could get any further. Eric was always my top choice. Shame the spear never really comes back or anyone like him. Just kinda lost to time unless we count Wind in Portrait of Ruin
While I woulda loved to see you roll over Dracula X, I understanding why you wouldn't pick it; it's a pretty trash game with janky controls that pales in comparison to all three of its 16-bit counterparts. Hard and fun is much better, and Bloodlines is a rockin' game. I was lucky to have an SNES and a Genesis, so I didn't have to pick sides in the console wars.
Oh trust me Dracula x I definitely wanna do I just never played it and don’t have the time to cover it in this moment but I wanted to give Bloodlines the spotlight cause I truly feel this game is under appreciated and under SCV4’s shadow which I still feel this game is better in terms of gameplay and replayability. The final boss makes me inclined to conquer Dracula x when I have the time
Who the hell are the people in the thumbnail? I guess the one on the right resembles Eric Lecarde, but the person on the left is who??? Just use official art instead of weird shitty fan art.
Why you use shitty fan art in the thumbnail instead of official art?
Rondo is personally my favorite Castlevania, but Bloodlines is way more fun to me than IV.
I can agree with bloodlines being more fun than 4 as well. Rondo it’s a great game but i haven’t played it too many times but i’d say my list for now is best to worst:cv3,cv1,bloodlines, rondo, scv4 and I’ll probably make a new list sometime later
Even more underrated is Castlevania Chronicles on PS1.
cant comment but someday I want to get around to it if it is as "hard" as they say
@Imgoodurbadd it always depends on what people mean by hard since Castlevania Chronicles even have an easy mode called Arrange Mode with no knock back for example.
@@EuSouRCS Man you should know me by now. I got to play the highest difficulty available xd
@@Imgoodurbaddone thing you should know is that there are a few gameplay differences between ps1 "original mode" and the og sharpx68000 version that makes the game easier and/or less accurate for the former (ai being broken, time being faster etc) So yeah if you wanna bother yourself with chronicles just keep that in mind. The game is based tho (<-didnt get past the clocktower)
@thesubinion thanks for the info! Yeah whatever’s the most difficult or janky I’ll try to beat sometime
And Castlevania IV is one of the most overrated games ever BTW.
I can agree. I like it but out of most classicvanias, I dont go back to it often although I can agree the atmosphere is really good.
@Imgoodurbadd very good game indeed, but the only reason to be so overrated is because anyone can beat it easily.
@@EuSouRCS more of my reason is just it drags on I feel and coming after CV3, it drops all the features that game had which I see as a step backwards. I guess the difficulty plays a part but I'm more into NES games and Bloodlines one of the few sega genesis titles I've played and know well
@Imgoodurbadd exactly! Castlevania 3 is a MASTERPIECE with so many features then we got Super Castlevania IV with mode 7 and that OP whip, big deal.
Am I allowed to like castlevania 4 more purely out of bias because it was the first castlevania game I ever played? I will say I do think the music in bloodlines far surpasses that of 4s but 4 also went for a more atmospheric approach to its sound design rather than traditional castlevania level music (for better or for worse).
I guess but I will say it's wrong xd. I think the main thing to compare is bloodlines and 4's gameplay. 4 the whip is fun but the cross is only viable weapon and the levels kind of drag on. Bloodlines has controls I enjoy more, gives subweapons secondary functions, the blue whip is cool idea(one hit though is lame) and two characters to choose. Bloodlines could've done better with alt paths
BLOODLINES BAAAAAAASED SCIV fans on life support rn
True. This entry give me any day of the week compared to 4
For those intimidated by the continues: hitting reset on the game over screen and starting a new game will start you at the stage you died at. Unlimited continues
I have a better strat: dont die. Gotem. I think the 1ups play a pivotal role this time around which is cool but limited continues is bad design in games so it cant be pardoned but I kind of forget it has them
We the people demand more Meg of Man
Dont worry I plan on doing the NES trilogy and the classic series when I play 7,8,bass and 10 plus try the X games. I dont want to do it back to back to back so I'll tease when MM2 is next :)
I'd say this is definitely in the top 5 most underrated CV games in the franchise. But I'd say that the most underrated and underappreciated CV game(s) are a tie between CV64 and CV:LoD
I agree. I wanted to bring some attention to it and cover on expert also. CV64 now that is interesting to hear and LOD. Never tried them
@Imgoodurbadd CV64 was unfortunately released unfinished... Or rather severely compromised by tossing out close to half of the originally planned game to release the version of the game they could finish. Legacy of Darkness is the "director's cut" , a new version of the original planned game. Still not the original planned version. But closer to it. Adding tons of new gameplay, features, levels, and improved camera and controls, while also removing elements from the initial game. I always play them back to back, because they are two halves of the same whole. They are truly great games, with minor flaws. The original got pretty good reviews upon release. LoD got mediocre reviews, mostly criticizing the game for A) being the game that should have been released in the first place & B) coming out so soon after the original. I truly love those games. They are my favorite Castlevania games out of the entire franchise.
Hard agree with the title here, love this game. Pretty sure I've played it so much I can 1cc on Expert Mode, and I think I've done it deathless once or twice. Truly a masterpiece.
Yeah. I think it is underrated because I dont hear too much praise for the game and yes I have to play this on expert otherwise it's too easy xd
Bloodlines is easily the best game in the classic series imo
I still stand on CV3 is the best due to replayability, music, and the partners plus multiple paths which make the replayability so I've easily played that entry the most
My favorite part is how one of John's hobbies is apparently swimming.
John is under the water please help him
no way you just said simon theme in this game is better than the super castlevania IV.
It is sorry to say. Love the extra orchestral in this version and I listen to this version way more
Zelda II’s a fun game but genuinely how would anyone ever figure out some of the cryptic stuff necessary to beat it? Like those false walls in the last few palaces!
Yeah old games be like that. Pretty stupid
Kotaro Fuma when? I feel that's up your alley. A weird fusion of Ninja Gaiden and Castlevania
Never heard of the game so that will be a while. I don't have time to cover new stuff right now
Dracula X when?
sometime later down the road. I havent played it yet not in my current schedule
just recently beat this on switch, the gentleman's choice
Ye it's very underrated imo. I enjoy it a lot more compared to SCV4 and Rondo the other popular ones
I love how every normal enemy in this game dies in one hit, so you’re constantly encouraged to just keep running forward, timing your kills and avoiding attacks in an almost rhythmic way.
yeah it's pretty liberating to run through the game especially when usually holding the spin slash and knowing what candles hold weapons and ninpo. I enjoy learning the game.
Awesome, i hope ypu do tmnt and double dragon 3 sometime, those are great games thst got a bad rep because of the fuckin' nerd
I definitely want to. There's a whole world of retro I've barely scratched the surface of so I will cover as much as I can and you guys like. As for TMNT and DD3, not sure because I have not played those titles.
You say it's underrated, but I say Bloodline is one the best of 16bit Castlevania
Well in my experience I hear SCV4 and Rondo getting more praise when I dont hear anything about this game. Regardless, I wanted to bring limelight to this game.
Dude, girl just trying to save her uncle and you kill her for it. Who's the real villain here?
Me. I feel bad she kinda bad though. But she trying to take over the world with him so no good
I feel like, out of the "Big 3" Castlevanias of the early '90s, Bloodlines has the best balance. IV has decent level design but snoozefest bosses and enemies (thanks to OP movement options and the whip), whereas Rondo level design is pretty bad but it's got some fun and hard bosses. Bloodlines however has good stage design and (mostly) good boss fights. Musically, I think Rondo's is a bit better overall, but Bloodlines still has quite a few bangers. IV's is extremely boring and helps put me to sleep while playing it, along with it being too long of a game, takes forever for it to finally get interesting. Anyways, nice vid. I liked that you played on Expert (default is WAY too easy) and picked the superior character. 👍
Yes of course. I like the choice of Eric but come on you have to pick the guy with the whip and I like John's controls better and it would be boring af on normal. I like SCV4 for atmosphere and music, but yeah I think some levels are a bit too long and not interesting enough and not memorable bosses. Also coming after CV3 with all the replayability and different characters, 4 lacks a lot and Bloodlines bring some of the features back. I like Rondo too more than 4 but it doesnt do it for me or I'm just incredibly biased for NES games. Thanks also for the compliment!
The ending I think is bad. The gauntlet of bosses is horrible. Maybe not as bad as 4 but the card death match is annoying unless I’m such a noob that I do it the long hard way every time
I usually have plasma whip and axe for that rush. Yeah it's repetitive but at least the bosses have half health so you can kill them faster
You know what else is better that CV4? Dracula X. I don't care if it is a poor imitation of Rondo. It's got tighter controls, a less bland color palette, and WAY better music. It's the superior SNES CV.
Interesting take never heard anyone like Dracula X. I do wanna cover it someday havent tried it out
And the pits for the final boss. Yes, you hear me correctly. Pits.
@@Imgoodurbadd I think the people that hate it played Rondo first. But I played it before Rondo and liked more than I liked CV4. CV4 just has such dreary graphics. And a weird meandering soundtrack(except Simon's Theme, which rules).
@@mapmakerlich Can't argue with that. That final boss fight is a nightmare.
@@DarthEnderX I could see that. I went in order so SCV4, Bloodlines, then Rondo I believe and Bloodlines triumphs it for me. Still my 3rd overall fav 2nd CV1 and CV3
Honestly i find dark link pretty easy even with out the crouch stab glitch
I dont think it's really a glitch but maybe AI manipulation. I'm just lazy lol.
Fear the pantsless Spaniard!
Should I though? He doesnt hold the vampire killer
@@Imgoodurbadd His pantsless apparel strikes fear in the hearts of night creatures.
Alright, I almost ended the video right away when you had the gall to say Medusa heads are "easy" 😂
Well they are in this game. They're hella slow and dont knockback as far. They only show up three times in the game I think
I love Bloodlines!
True. I like this entry in the series a lot
Okay, I have an idea. How about you show us trash gamers how easy Holy Diver on the NES is? Pretty unknown title in the west, cause it was Japan only iirc, but according to many it's a grand champion of hard as balls retro games (except one title, which is unbeatable unless you use a specific exploit in the last stage to get to the final boss).
It's definitley something I wanna cover but not anytime soon. Never played it and I dont have the time so I appreciate the recommendation!
Hell yeah, CV3 and bloodlines are my fav classicvanias. Rondo a close third
For me CV3 easily, then CV1, Rondo, SCV4 then the rest idc enough lol or never played
true and real, this game is a contender for best classicvania. CV3 (the japanese version) is still my favorite though.
Yes I am still a CV3 diehard fan(american version I'm weird I know) I'd say Bloodlines is third after CV1 and CV3
@@Imgoodurbadd well for a more unpopular opinion. I think rondo is a bit overrated and dracula X deserves more love. The level design in rondo is boring and bland with long hallways everywhere. Dracula X has tighter level design with a few annoying parts later in the game. I still love Rondo though.
@@Roge9 very interesting with drac x. I havent gotten around to it but when I have time I want to cover it and yes I like Rondo but idk might just be NES bias but it doesnt do it for me like CV1 and CV3
youve got the wrong morris and the wrong elizabeth in the thumbnail
Yeah I just thought this looked nicer and more modern sorry
The tower level with the autoscrolling part reminds me of Mega Man 8's Astroman's autoscrolling level
Never played MM8, but the tower level moving is a really cool effect
Hot take castlevania 4 is mid asf and I'm tired of Pretending like it's not
Ain't a hot take my friend. It's a snore fest
I agree. I like the game do not get me wrong but it feels empty compared to CV3 and Bloodlines with multiple characters and alt paths(I wish Bloodlines did more with alt paths)
I agree xd
I love this game finished it for like 50 times it really has a ton of replay ability because of the limited continues and expert mode in this game
Yes I agree. It's a damn fine entry and it has two characters to play.
Bloodline is such a platinum gem. This game need more love and respect tbh.
Truly. It's why I wanted to cover it and give it some spotlight. Even though it lacks some traditional classicvania features like the Belmonts, John Morris still works and you can have the choice to play as Eric
It's not *really* overlooked. Super Nintendo kids loved CV4. Genesis kids loved Bloodlines. Both are amazing. It was just a which-system-did-you-have thing.
One is amazing the other is mid
Castlevania Bloodlines was always one of the weakest of the classic Castlevania games and it really is pathetic that so many that really don't understand these games try to put it up on an undeserved pedestal. It looks ugly, and even a little goofy at times. The audio is probably the weakest with everything from the wolf bosses eeeeeeeee howl to those awful bird flapping sounds. The compositions aren't bad, but not as good as the other Castlevania games. The level design, while by no means bad, isn't as good as 4, 3, or Rondo. The play mechanics feel like half-hearted steps backward from Castlevania 4.
@@davidaitken8503 castlevania 4 level design is pretty mediocre for the most part, it's very bland with no substance or interesting ideas and when it's not bland the ideas are usually very badly executed
Interesting. I find SCV4 to be more praised but because maybe the fact more kids has SNES but I am unsure
I will agree the sound effects and atmosphere isnt the best in Bloodlines but I think the gameplay is better. Yeah SCV4 gives you the freedom of multi directional whip but there's no reason to use subweapons and I think the lack of alt paths isnt great.(bloodlines at least tried alt paths, but has 2 characters so replayability is there) Bloodlines does have a difficulty adjuster which is nice
damn dude nice and yeah this game is a underated classic very fun and intresting take on castlevania i enjoy it
Thank you! I appreciate it yes I think this game needs more recognition I play it more than SCV4 and Rondo and I really like the game.
i still need to finish this one, stopped at the last stage
You better finish the game or else xd
@Imgoodurbadd or else what
@@issac6156 I will send Medusa heads to your house

wrong music lol
Oh...you git letter from avgn sir. It say "still good but not better than it because MOONWALKING"
Moonwalking is not in my gaming critique xd but it's cool
Holy water rn: how? How!?HOW!!??
yeah holy water was nerfed in SCV4 and still bad here. CV3 holy water come back to me
ImGoodUrBad plus Castlevania? Where do I sign!

Trivia: Dracula's third form in this game is based on old time depictions of Satan and demons in general that have faces in their abdomens.. Dracula here just like Satan in Dante's Inferno has three faces, three mouths were he perpetually eats the biggest traitors in history: Judas, Brutus and Gaius.
wow that is very interesting! I had no clue about that I guess the dev's really put some thought and not just a goofy design. Thank you for sharing that!
@WaywardRobot Cro tch mouth spitting fire sounds like he caught some nasty S TD from someone he brought home from a bar last night
I lost it when I saw the Angry German kid over the stage 4 intro XD
Bro, same xD Such a blast from the past when internet and youtube were still wild lol
I'm glad it worked. One of my favorite videos on all of UA-cam.
I beat all classicvanias and Four is peak
I dont agree its peak. Personally, CV3 is peak with music, graphics, replayability and gameplay. I think every other entry has not lived up to those expectations and SCV4 lacked all the features of CV3
I'm not even a Castlevania guy and I'm still enjoying the video Oh btw, is the "pfff, this shit's easy" attitude a joke or do you genuinely find these games easy? Cuz if you do, I must be pretty bad (hence your name I suppose)
Thank you! I appreciate that and glad you liked it. Yeah it's a mix it's satire but also I've played the games I covered way too many times so these games are very easy for me but once I gain the time, there are more titles that are hard I want to go after
