2.5cm Lift
We are building a 2.5cm lift for this little girls left skate. She has a leg length variance, so this will help with her ability to skate.
This is a sped up build, amounting to 2 hours of actual time to cut out, form, install and sharpen this skate.
The lift is made from two 1cm stacked pieces of acrylic, and two pieces of nylon made from a 1.5mm and 3.5mm sheet to total the needed 2.5cm.
Installation was completed with stainless 6-32x2” flat head machine screws and matching size nylon lock nuts. The screws were cut and filed to the correct length to complete this custom built lift.

This is a 5 hour build, of a custom 2.5 centimeter, over 3 days. Joe walk’s through the major steps, and speed’s up most of the time consuming steps. This custom lift is built with 5 layers of 5mm acrylic. The acrylic is light and strong, to sustain the stresses of torque applied while skating, while reducing weight. Stainless steel 2 inch screws and nylon lock nuts are used to secure the holde...

How much do Bauer, CCM and True hockey skate holders weigh? Find out which is heaviest!
Hi Thanks for the video I am currently using a 9’ 10 ‘ dual pitch. Do I have to use any of the profiles inserts ? Thanks
What if the plastic eyelid bracket snapped in half about two eyelets b from the top and ripped off the boot?
I just go the MTF Pro Steel for Bauer Edge holders - is it normal for the MTF steel to snap into the holder, but the trigger not fully return like it does with the original steel? It's locked in and I can't pull it out without pulling the trigger, but much easier to remove than the original steel. Just curious if this is how they should fit in the Edge holder. Thanks!
The mask😂😂😂🤡
I have the MTF Prosteel and they are loose near the front. These are the production runners. Do you suggest I use tape on the front?
We’re do u get the black ones
Question for the shop. I wear Ccm ft6, size 8.5. My i2’s arrived and when I compared the i2 holder to the XS holder, the i2 holder appears to be shorter than the XS. Do you think I’m correct in my assumption?
Im trying the i2 in an older pair of skates before I throw them on my current skate.
I found there was a little lip keeping the screw in ... Why make a 600$ skate dependent on a little plastic piece that almost next to inpossible to find
You put all the screws in without having the skater try them first on the slotted screws 😢 to see if the skater is happy with the position of the blade ??? What are you thinking man ????
How do you change the profile of the blade instead of the standard contour? In other words, it ships with a contour in the steel. How do I change that? Won’t it move if a profile shim is attached while shaving the steel?!
It's not nearly as easy as you make it look, but your video greatly reduced my stress level. Thanks
Hey i sharpen skates on the blade master and I’m wondering how you reset the goalie skate holder
Do the holes for the true holders and Bauer holders line up perfectly? I was thinking about buying true skates and using Bauer runners because I have more spare Bauer blades, but I don’t want to have to drill new holes in the boot or try to fill the old holes.
What’s the difference between 9X and pro??
I need the same thing. How long does it take and how is the cost?
There is a reason when a pro player uses True skates, they have the TU'UK holder installed however 'if your replacing shift holders replacing them with ccm holders lineup way closer to shift holders hole wise. Can't figure out why Scott V can't figure it out yet. most people want to play hockey not speed skating.
Great video! Thanks for the information. If I end up wanting to change over from the shift holders to the shift max holders (same size)…will they need to drill new holes or will the max holder line up with the old shift holder rivet holes?
What’s best insert to use?
The question is how durable they are cause the last 2 lines had massive problems and durability issues.
I’ve been using 10 ft contour which is what it came with. Would changing to 9.5 - 10.5 be noticeable. I play centre. Thanks in advance.👍🇨🇦
Great video. Quick and to the point!
This is my favorite song dude.
what did you meesure the angle with ?? i have seen some small angle messurements but haven´t found it on the inet ;) is it only for angle or also the hollow ??
Not exactly sure what to look at here
I have a pair of the PRO's. Almost 10 games in them. They are TOTALLY AMAZINGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG
I find the toe box isn’t big enough. My 4th and 5th toes felt very squishy and have no room to wiggle. What do you think?
How do you remove them once they are on?
Nice video. I replaced my Bauer customs with TF9s. Only then did I realise why I couldn’t do many edge drills. Now I can do really nice forwards crossrolls, powerpulls and three turns, and my backwards crossrolls and powerpulls are coming on. Skate fit is critical. Even Bauer customs won’t fit some feet, like mine. Comfy, yes, supportive, no. Bauer customs as sold in the shops are really just stock skates, sized to each foot, with a bit of heat and pressure moulding. With a wide foot and narrow ankle like mine, the ankles won’t be supported laterally. The TF9s fit so well. I don’t need to really tighten the laces, honestly they feel almost loose, and yet I can feel and control the edges. I also skip the last from top eyelets. The only negative, they are hard to get on and off. One tip. Before wrapping, for each skate insert a shim between the top three eyelets and the tongue. Do this on the outer eyelets, not the inner ones. It helps a lot, at least with my foot shape. Without the shims, putting them on and taking them off is very painful.
What is the riveter that you're using?
Fleming Gray FG-1100, sold by Fleming Gray or MDF Industries Inc.
@@bsharpottawa Thanks!
Nice work! They would look dope with some led lights! I don't need any, but I still watched the process.
After years wearing Bauer customs, I’ve discovered why I struggle with skating drills. I moved up to True TF9s, and suddenly edge drills are easy: powerpulls, crossrolls, Russian stroking etc. The damned Bauers don’t provide enough support. I have wide forefeet and narrow ankles. I wonder how many people are like me? My next skates will also be true, custom or Hzrdus. I am impressed that I get custom level comfort from stock boots.
I went from Bauer customs to True TF9, a massive upgrade. Just as comfortable, but much more supportive, and my skating has improved dramatically. My feet are the wrong shape for Bauers. At first I couldn’t get them on without significant pain, even when twisting my foot. I rebaked them with a 4 mm thick rubber shim under the top three eyelets on the outside only. Now they slide on and off, not easy but not painful. I read that you shouldn’t pull or push the tendon guard when putting on and taking off the boots. And always remove insoles off ice. I use Bauer speed plates.
Do you happen to know if Edea is still making the old version? I saw a rumor somewhere that they’re going to switch back to the old version with 3 hooks and stones on the side. I’m looking into switching from Ice Fly’s to Showgirls, but I would really rather prefer to have the old version of them
The new models are back to 3 hooks, and more designed like the Ice Fly. Just got them, look so much better
Nice that you guys are making skating accessible for people with non symmetrical leg lengths. How did you guys come up with 2.5 cm did you guys measure her?
We deal with a number of the ortho/podiatrists that specialize in this sort of thing. We only really show the extreme cases, like this one. In general we are splitting the difference in leg length. She has a 5cm leg length difference, so we built a 2.5cm lift.
@@bsharpottawaThat makes sense.
I’ll be booking a fitting soon! I need that same size! I live 5 hours away so how many times would I need to come there before they are ready?
As long as you have an iPhone, you won’t need to come in before hand at all!
Can those insoles go into a catalyst 5kate?
You can for sure. Or even a pair of CCM’s.
Are these holders heavyer than Tuuk's, Xs's or True holders?
I never seen any other skates but True wrapped. Do you guys example wrap Bauer's or Ccm's, or do they benefit been wrapped afrer heated?
No point doing that with Bauers, they barely heat mould.
What’s the difference between a contour and profile? True shift steel comes stock 9.5/10.5. Is that a contour or profile? Seems like with the marsblade you would want the 14 mars insert for the agility/ancceleration. And say a 13’ or longer single profile for the glide and speed. Seems like a lot of possibilities. Do you know how much the marsblade holder and steel weigh?
have an appt for a fit on Monday for full custom. Im stoked.
I wanted to see you fill in the holes with epoxy.
For the edea show girl y understand Jackson finesse are better. The legacy 7 I have them with the ice fly
Most often EDEA’s boot stitches are not the centre. Boots are different even given same size.
Correct
Wich blade it’s the best for them! ?
You can use whichever made you like with these skates. Pattern 99 Revs were installed on this pair as she’s using them for free skate. We see lots using the MK Dynasty or Ultima Synchro blades for show skating as they are a free skate/ dance blade combo.
I have legacy lite 7 does that ones can be working for jumps and spins and even dancing pairs?
Or what about última finesse?
@@nutri_soulandbody the Legacy 7 is essentially a Coronation Ace. It’s a great blade
The blade softens without water cooling!
what shot blockers do you use?
The ones mentioned at the beginning of the video, Custom Skate Works UltraStop
Do you know the actual stock profile on shift steel? Most websites say 9/10. I emailed true, they said 9.5/10.5. And most local shops say it has a 9/10 with 1/32 pitch forward? Also What size runner is on those beasts?!
The stock contour on the True MAX stuff is 9.5/10.5. Their old steel was 9/10. These are Bauer holders, and we profiled them to a 9.5/10.5 contour with profile adjustments as well. That's a 322.
When you guys fill holes in skates, what do you use to plug the holes? I work in a shop and I’m the only one who can do rivets and have a guy who wants to swap true holders to CCM XS. Any tips would be greatly appreciated!
We use a JB Weld composite putty to fill the holes.
@@bsharpottawaoh sweet, thanks for the reply. Is it possible to drill a hole that’s partially in the JB weld and partially in the boot itself? There’s a couple holes where the alignment is weird and I don’t wanna have to make the hole too wide for anything besides a copper
@@boshebetka8478 yup, thats what we use it for. If none of the holes line up, you can drill the new holes without filling if you dont want to.
at 7:19, when you show the inside of the skate, there is a layer of white paper at the bottom of the skate. Is that masking tape? That material is peeling off at the bottom of my true customs. Is it safe to peel that white paper/tape completely off?
Hi Joel, your other vieeo "True Holder Swap - VH to SHIFT" is set to "Made for Kids" so we can't comment and also cannot save the video. Can you change it so it's not for kids?
