Today we are comparing the @TrueTemperHockey Catalyst Pro to the SVH Pro Custom skate, as well as going over the difference between the Catalyst Pro vs Catalyst 9. We even weigh them for you!
Looking forward to my SVH customs arriving. Not many vids out about them, so not gonna have much of a clue what people think, until I get my hands on my own 😂
@@bsharpottawa be good to hear someone's opinion who's taken them for a skate. I'm just a rec player from the UK with weird feet so no I'm no pro 😂. Your vids are very informative on the spec and construction anyway. 👍🏻
Thank you for the enlightening video bc I didn’t had a clue what was the difference. But I consider buying a true Skate bc I have wider foot and my feet are hurting from my Hyperlite . So for the tongue I would love have a similar to the Hyperlite one. Which skate would you consider for me . 177cm 74 kg and have a bit of a wider foot (Size 7)
@@bsharpottawa That would be fantastic. I have weird hobbit feet and I think True Skates are my last hope, but I can't find a single review online of someone who has gone through the custom process, tried the SVH and how they fit, feel etc. I'd really like to know these things before I spend $1500 on a pair of skates lol
I just for my cat pros. I personally prefer the svh bfio even though my feet aren't super odd shaped and no bumps. I felt the svh customs use slightly different materials that allow better heat moldability esp in the forefoot area. The cat pros mold nicely too but the shell seems to not get as soft as the svh although pretty close. The six mins bake time recommended by true for the cat pros is not long enough. I did it both at 6 mins and 10 mins and the diff was night and day. Shrink wrap after 6 mins barely did anything but shrink wrapping after ten mins my feet were locked in.
@@Chanmantroop10 the ONLY reason you need a BFIO is if you’ve got a 6th toe or some sort or crazy bone extension growth aka Haglans bump or knuckle bunion. With heat they fit 90% of people.
Would you suggest the bfio for an accessory navicular bone? Also does the weight difference feel significant on the ice? How does it compare to the top end ccm/bauers? Thanks
@@rockybrowder5302 if it’s something that bugs you in your current skates, possibly. Because of the pliability of the carbon in the Cat skates, your tech should be able to mold that out through manually manipulating the area and wrapping them. As to weight, not it’s not significantly going to impact your on ice performance. Weight is slightly heavier on the SVH comparing them to Bauer and CCM, but you have to take into account that the SVH comes with shot blockers included, where the other two do not.
Any insight why the svh’s are heavier? Are they just using more carbon layers and resin? I tired pros on super comfy and almost too stiff. I’ve read svh’s are even stiffer. Do you know if true makes the svh, but as light as the pro?
Thanks for the video. I've tried all Bauer and CCM lines plus the TF9s and can't find anything that isn't killing my foot. I even had a pair of Supremes stretched and they still were like a vice. Would you recommend the Catalyst Pro or the SVH? Also, what's the cost difference?
Because the Catalyst is a thinner boot material than even the TF line, you can manipulate the boot in more ways. It sound like you may want to spend a few more bucks and go with the Catalyst Pro.
Any chance you could do a breakdown of the difference between the custom options between skates? Like the extra shot blocker layer or any other unique feature capability?
@@bsharpottawa awesome! I find they tell you what they can do but for most consumers it’s hard to understand because you can’t see feel or touch to understand what the custom process can really do for you and what players it suits
Thanks for the video! Do you scan your feet barefoot or with socks and does it have an effect on the cast? Should you still bake the svh with the insoles after getting them?
Bare feet as it is looking at the bones in your feet. Shadows from Socks throw the scan off. All of the skates, SVH especially, need to be baked and wrapped after you get them.
Thanks for the reply! I'm considering pulling the trigger on the svh's! Is it possible to speak on the build quality and how these are holding up after a few seasons of usage?
@@johnsantos8993my manager is going on 3 years with the TF Pro, the previous model to the SVH(which is more of a facelift) and they are still going strong. I’m on the original Pro Custom model still, and they are still alive. The original models had lots of issues with rusting rivets if you didn’t remove the insoles and let them dry out. They now use Stainless and have a different sole base, so will be be better than before
How would you compare these to the Bauer Mach? I’m looking to buy new skates always worn Bauer but I’ve had bad lace bite for the past 2-3 seasons could be just worn out skates or something else do you have any advice?
As the skate holders and blades are the same, they have the same “pitch” between the SVH and the Cat Pro. The SVH is available with the more ridged tendon guard which can push you more into a forward stance, like a ski boot. The flexible tendon guard, which is what comes on the Catalyst Pro is what I would suggest if you’re going with the SVH. You do not have the option of tendon guard on the Cat Pro like you do on the SVH
The Catalyst Pro is $1199.99 CAD, and the SVH Custom is $1399.99 CAD. Check out our video ua-cam.com/video/-AR-tR0-xHw/v-deo.html for the breakdown of what you can get with each. The prices are shown in this one too
The Catalyst Pro looks much better without the yellow.

Can those insoles go into a catalyst 5kate?
You can for sure. Or even a pair of CCM’s.
Is the shift max holder the same pitch as the original shift? Which was very forward pitched comparing to Tuuks?
Nope. That’s a blade setup thing. Keep an eye out for our holder video
Would they be able to make these for a flat foot. Id rather just do this than a off the shelf model. But have flat wide feet
Yup

ditto. Huge bunion. Full custom Trues 2 years ago. Still perfect fit. Absolutely worth the premium for me.

How do rivet hole patterns compare to other brand holders? i.e tuuk, ccm xs. does an equivalent size holder match up, or oversized holder?
The holes for a True Shift holder are different from Bauer and CCM holders as they are Universal aka there isn’t a Left or Right.

As long as you are getting your skates profiled(not from a box store, which only contour) they are almost exactly the same feel.
how come the customs don’t come with that footbed you showed? that one seems better than these flimsy little foam ones in my customs. thanks!
Both of the customs come with the Genetx insoles. It’s just new with the Catalyst. Sorry, I guess I didn’t explain that part

Thanks for another awesome insight video! How does the boot stiffness differ and can you use the previous shift steel in new shift max holder? Thanks!
I’ll do a stiffness comparison once we get some of the new models that aren’t the demo and display models.
Shift steel fits in the Max holder, but the Max steel doesn’t fit in the Shift holder. Video incoming on that too!
can I buy just the footbeds?
They are slowly rolling out, but not just yet
what is the price point of each of these cause i cant seem to find it anywhere
