One less key to your Muscle memory to get : Mark In -> extend (no need to clear out, the out point is ignored) But you have to do : Mark out -> Clear In -> extend (because the eventual In will take over).

And what about mixdown later as you need to send whole aaf to protools?

Tilde key is match frame for me. Load filler at position is a great shortcut, mine's on shift f! I've actually run out of mappable keys, including shift variants 😅

Been using tab for extend for years! Great to see. For us lucky folks in the UK, dissolve is also on the backslash beside shift 👍

I agree that the dissolve tool is faster in avid, BUT in my opinion, altering a cross dissolve that is already there is way way quicker in premiere than in avid.

I have seen you using your cnr + alt + c method in other videos too to change the place of a group of clips. But I don't understand why you wouldn't just X a section of your clips and then cntr + v it in yellow section mode on the place you want them to be? this saves you an extra step

I use JKL. Because I have two hands. If you are used to touch typing or to the little notch on the J K it's easy to find blindfolded.

when i apply one of your speed ramps to a clip and play, my record monitor goes black :( i can scrub on timeline but when i play nothing is seen on the record monitor. what to do now ?

M1 Mac Studio Ultra | Monterey 12.5.1 | MC 2023.12.0 the plugin breaks my Avid source browser. It just keeps saying "AvidOPFrameGeneratorApp is not responding. Restarting" It will allow me to option+drag the braw files into a bin. But if I want my source browser to work again, I have to move the BlackmagicRAW.avx folder out of the AMA folder

Hey Avidbeer, how's it hoppin'? I'm trying to import the bin into my Avid (2024.2), but it keeps saying the media is offline. I can link to the matte key transitions, but I can't get the sequence online. Any advice? Edit: I placed in the MXF files into Avid MediaFiles/MXF/1; and I deleted the PMR and MDB files before starting Media Composer.

If you cover what I'm about to ask in another video, I'll be sure to watch it, but how are you trimming the white flash effect so quickly? @2:39, you're trimming it down in size without using the red/yellow rollers, and later in the video, you also extend the effect length all with keyboard shorcuts by the look of it.

Coming from FCP and Adobe background, I find this utterly absurd.

How can I remove the timecode burn in if I need to?

Question..I like to use the scroll while playing as a timeline setting. In the old avid when I hit play the cursor would always center in the timeline and play from there allowing me to see whats coming up or whats behind in the timeline.. This new POS the cursor plays from where ever it stands. Is there a fix? Cuz this sucks and I cant get into a rythme!

It's funny because I've ended up with much the same workflow independently. Categorize the puzzle pieces, bring them into a timeline, and start playing.

Just upgraded to 2023.12 and as an AE I use segment mode a lot, but every time I click back in the timeline it turns off. Is there a way to keep segment mode on?

Ditto. Also, you don't have to just do it for someone else. You can do it for yourself too! I have large swathes of time that I am waiting for a project to make its way into my hands or get approved sometimes. Instead of just sitting around and waiting or watching videos on UA-cam, I make projects that I think are fun or will help me learn something I am not so good at doing. The funny thing is that all of that effort usually ends up helping me in the next project because I had time to figure it out ahead of time.

I’ve been working with avid for about 25 years now and the thing IMO that I like better is the interface of the entire program. Adobe is focused on the user’s actual experience where as in Avid, I find it to be an afterthought. Also auto-transcription and editing by test - light years past Avid. I cut down 10 hours of interviews without the benefit of timecode in less than an hour in Premiere. I do remember when Premiere was terrible, but Adobe has really put focused effort into making it a better experience and integrate other apps into the mix. IMO, Avid has not.

Any recommendations on how to export this footage out of Avid?
