I almost gave up wildlife photography
I've been doing wildlife photography as a hobby for over ten years. I haven't always been consistent for various reasons and often I've felt frustrated with my camera gear. But this year, 2025, I plan to change all of that and to start posting consistent content on UA-cam, of both wildlife photography and nature. So if that sounds like something that interests you then subscribe and tag along for the journey.

    Keep going! Unfortunately gear does matter in wildlife photography. If your gear is not that good, try some “animalscapes” looking for great landscapes and include animals in them because taking more landscape-like images is more forgiving as taking close-ups where you have to crop heavily.

    I once had a time (I think 2023) where I had believed that I wasn’t good enough for photography and wildlife photography in general. I had no gear and I was not able to get my experience I wanted. So one day , I was in San Francisco California USA, I stumbled across a photographer, he told me everything I needed to know about photography and how I could get back into it. So I decided to go and take this knowledge and like you said “turn over a new leaf” the biggest thing to do, is believe, you have to believe in yourself and in your heart because it doesn’t work out if you don’t believe. It’s the key to not only succeeding, but also to the enjoyment of something. I love your photos and videos of wildlife, especially the hedgehogs! I love your channel so keep it up! ❤😀😊

    Hi, I have a rather complex request this time. The feeder was a gift for my wife who uses an IPad at it's basic level, the complexity of the Bird Feeder software is something she would be the first to admit could not understand and would be asking me for advice. I use an Android phone and am not familiar with IPads. Is it at all possible for two seemingly incompatible systems to operate the Bird Feeder between them, how would you register which system would be used or could both do it, could you switch between systems? At the moment we have done absolutely nothing at all, just in case we couldn't undo it, we daren't even download the App. Sorry this is a difficult one but I'd appreciate any help you could give. Thanks, John Knight

    • @OnlyNature
      @OnlyNature 8 днів тому

      Hi John, that’s no problem, I’ll help as best as I can. To start with, yes the camera can be accessed from different devices and I see no reason why the app wouldn’t support cross platform access. You can find lost of information about sharing the camera access here: support.netvue.com/hc/en-us/articles/16785937522201-Guest-Slots-Sharing-Device-With-Family-Friends As for setting up the device, it’s very simple and should only take a minute. I’d recommend setting up the camera on the phone or tablet that you will use the most, this way if you take longer sharing the device you’ll have instant access from the device you would rather use first. Unfortunately I don’t use Android but as far as I’m aware the app should function the same regardless. Hope this helps!

    I just purchased this. I purchased the one that has one camera and the solar panel. I also ordered the suet ball holder. I’m pretty excited! I live in NE Oklahoma by a Spring River. We have all kinds of birds and wildlife here and I do my best to provide feed for the birds. Like you, black sunflower seeds are always welcome, a little messy with the hulls but they are cheap and I can feed those everyday. I like to make my suet in the winter. I use beef tallow and only in the cold weather. I add different things to it but the woodpeckers like it straight up tallow. Anyway, if I have questions about the feeder are you willing to help. I don’t see anything that I can’t do but just in case, may I hope on here and ask you something about the feeder?

    • @OnlyNature
      @OnlyNature 12 днів тому

      Hi, that sounds great I’m sure you’ll have fun with it! Suet balls always prove to be popular in my garden too, although I don’t own the holder yet so I should definitely get one and yes of course! If you have any questions then feel free to ask and I’ll try to answer them as best as I can. Birdfy also has a great support team, so I’m sure they’d be happy to help if I miss your comment ☺️ enjoy your new feeder!

    I plan to do the same this year at a new house. It will be over 50 metres from the house. Do I need a constant water supply and filtering etc. Lot's of confusing advice on Interweb. Also can you provice simensions / liner size etc. as your one looks like the perfect size for my new garden.

    • @OnlyNature
      @OnlyNature 11 днів тому

      That sounds great, I’d always recommend having a nearby water source but it doesn’t have to be any anything fancy, like a large water butt to collect rainwater from a shed roof, for example. I would recommend looking into “bog filters” I only learnt about them after building my pond and think I might have to add one to it this year. As for the pond it’s 5m long by 3.5m wide (at its widest point) and 5ft deep. This is the liner I bought: amzn.to/403AWMr You may not need to go this deep unless you plan to have any fish in it, I just wanted a good reservoir of water. Any questions let me know, I’ll be happy to help if I can ☺️

    What kind of pole did you use? What kind of poles will hold these feeders?

    • @OnlyNature
      @OnlyNature Місяць тому

      Great question and something I should have mentioned in the video. I’m using the bottom half of a washing line pole that I bought from Wickes. I chose this because they’re a bit more substantial whilst also being relatively inexpensive. Birdfy do sell their own pole and I’m sure there are plenty online but I would definitely go for a slightly more heavy duty pole. Having two cameras makes it relatively heavy for a feeder and you’ll definitely want it to be nice and stable so the footage looks better. Alternatively it can also be wall mounted and therefore you could even use a fence post. Hope that helps! Any more questions then let me know 😊

    • @OnlyNature
      @OnlyNature 5 місяців тому

      Thank you! That’s a great question and yes they will, provided that they’re large enough to be picked up on the camera or the sensitivity of the camera is strong enough to detect them. For capturing amphibians, I’d recommend having the camera low down and close to the water source, that way the camera is more likely to detect their motion. Heat detection would be amazing but also very expensive, motion detection (like this one) generally works very well. Hope that helps! 😊
