Great video. Very helpful and explained why it’s a good hobby in a perfect way.

If you can afford it, a satellite phone of some variety, or at a minimum a portable radio capable of transmitting on guard is a good idea. Personally, especially where I fly there are a lot of less than nice critters and lots of wide open remote spaces, a good general purpose woods gun like a .357 magnum revolver, or 10mm pistol is a good idea to have in your flight bag in case you land somewhere where wildlife is a concern.

These old phones were always reliable and never failed as do mobiles, if we have outages and the computer and mobiles go down, only the landline works. Why everything is going digital when it is totally unreliable, as is most of todays technology, as it all relies on electricity, is beyond me ??😮 Plus the fact that all phones today are ugly and all look the same🤔

Does it recieve 11m AM/FM? And SSB? Is this radio better than the quansheng UV-K5?

So those Quansheng radios have digital mode? That seems like a better value than the Baofeng.

I totally agree. Start small and get your feet wet. Buy a $25 radio and see if you're interested. If you still aren't sure, a GMRS license is $35 and there is NO test. If you want more, the Ham Radio technician test is easy enough to study and memorize even if you don't fully understand it. Once you start using the radio you'll learn a lot more by doing, and eventually you'll understand the questions on the test. I started with a Baofeng and just listened for a couple of months. Then I got a GMRS license and got connected with a great bunch of folks on a repeater in my area. After a couple more months I decided to get my Ham license. Just the fun of making antennas out of wire or coat hangers and seeing it actually work was enough to spark more interest and I gradually improved the quality of the equipment I use. This year I got my General class license and I'm talking to people two states away and listening to people all over the world. It is a lot of fun.

You did better than I did during my 1st stall training. I had the thing nose down doing 360's at the ground with instructor hollering something like step on right rudder! likes here :)

Mag mount on top of the refrigerator or wall/window mount ac units. Glass mount was the worst I’ve ever tried. SWR means less than you think.

Great Video Max!!, As SoCal pilot myself, I have seen aviation under attack for the last couple of decades. From VNY having over 600,000 operations in 1990, to less than 300,000 a year in 2021, to SMO closing and now WHP in the crosshairs. When these airports are gone, they don't come back. It's really nothing more than a land grab by developers. And If we can't have an airport like WHP, in Pacoima, an industrial area, then where? And who can forget, Chicago's Meigs Field airport was bulldozed overnight in 2003, in violation of federal regulations. PS, I believe they will waive the landing fee at SMO if you get fuel. It used to be a decent price, Better than VNY.

Nice flight Max. I fly a 1947 Taylorcraft from an airport that is below sea level to the Los Angeles Basin, crossing the coastal range at 4,500 feet. The cockpit can be drafty and cold, so I can appreciate your flight over 9,000 feet. Please produce more of your excellent videos.

Bad and unlawful information in this video. First, it is illegal even to possess a receiver capable of receiving the frequencies you claim. That's a Federal crime. Next, it's not FCC certified to transmit on the frequencies that you claim it can transmit on, so that too is unlawful. That's enough right there to stay away from this HT. Additionally, even if it could RX/TX on the frequencies you claim, its antenna won't even come close to achieving that. And there's absolutely no way that HT will even come close to 10 watts PEP on that range of frequencies. Put it on a spectrum analyzer and see the real story here.
