    That Harley is exactly the same kind of motorcycle what my grandpa, Red Hetherington, used to use to go deliver the US Postal Mail in the 1930's era riding from Denver Colorado up to Georgetown Colorado. Wearing just a backpack w saddlebags on his Harley, running on a gravel road "(I-70)" now all the way from Denver to Georgetown! :) Thank you Heavy Metal and the (Golden Age Flight Museum) nice memories indeed. likes here :)

    Thanks for the nice tour, Max. I flew my 79 Archer today. Really, only the second time I've been in the air since early July. We went back to the midwest to go to the Oshkosh Airshow, which was really great! As always! Unfortunately, I've had some storm damage to my beautiful plane. Something dented and bent the rudder. Then, a big storm blew a 6 foot long box up and under my right wing, puncturing the right wheel pant. )-: Going to be very expensive to repair... I also had my two magnetos rebuilt and something is not quite right with them either. Welcome to aviation!!

      Ouch! So sorry to hear that. That kind of damage scares me! You didn't even do anything, it just got damaged on its own!

    Keep a check on the sheet metal on older planes. My Dad was in charge of testing for the F 16. He said after he retired at age 75. Most commercial airlines are not doing required flex and age testing. He said aluminum flexes with every flight and can only flex so many times before test need to be made for structural weakness. He is gone now but I remember his words.
    Fly safe!! Love your videos!!

    Great video, glad to see the Chief in the air! I've been through TSP many times, will have to look for that museum next time. Good internal camera locations. Will look forward to your 'how to be non-electric over LA' video!

    Working on my ppl right now. I have my eye on those Chiefs and Taylorcrafts as a viable airplane to own in the future. For someone just looking to experience flying they’re about the most affordable way to own an airplane and have the freedom to fly when you want.

    • @HeavyMetalHorizons
      @HeavyMetalHorizons  Рік тому

      Congrats on your progress so far! Chiefs / Champs, Taylorcrafts, Luscombes, and perhaps Ercoupes are all pretty good, relatively affordable options!

    What a beautiful little airport and site, nothing like seeing California from the air,and seeing what whet up in the same sky at one time, thanks for the ride Maxx.

    At 6:05, you don't have one hand on the yoke and one on the throttle.. 😎

    • @HeavyMetalHorizons
      @HeavyMetalHorizons  Рік тому +1

      It takes a surprising amount of force to get the yoke all the way back on this!

      @@HeavyMetalHorizons I flew Cessna 150’s, but never flew any old taildraggers. It appears that the elevator on a Chief is pretty large and isn’t aerodynamically balanced, plus the yoke setup probably doesn’t give you the leverage that a stick would. I have ridden in an Aeronca Champ and was surprised at the amount of elevator it needed during takeoff and landing.
