I graduated in 2012 with a BA (Hons) in Contemporary Photographic Arts Practice from Northbrook College Sussex (awarded by Brighton university),basically a fine art degree in Photography (their words not mine), in 2021 I graduated from the University of Brighton with a Masters degree in Photography. I've been interested in Photography since my parents bought me my first camera at the age of 11.
I don’t like to stick to a single photographic genera, however that’s not to say I don’t gravitate towards certain photographic types. I love texture, shallow depth of field, highly detailed, high contrast & colour. I love taking detailed gritty textured portraits, I find them especially interesting & thought provoking.
I’m just as happy in the studio as outside in the natural world, I shoot sports, nature, macro photography, still life.

Canon 5D Mark II In 2024
I recently purchased a Canon 5D Mark II.
I've been thinking about maybe doing a whole series of videos about older cameras (as well as buying them), what do you think?
I don't know about you but I'm getting a bit fed up with the way the camera market is going at the moment. It seems every other camera now as "AI" enhanced autofocus etc. In all this "AI" noise has the purpose of photography been forgotten?
Let me know what you think.

Fujifilm X Pro 2 | The last pure photography centred Fuji camera? (Improved Audio Version)

Went out for a photo walk on Saturday 17th of September 2022. Used a Fujifilm X-Pro 2 & a 23mm F2 R WR lens. I have to say I am really impressed with both the lens and the camera. I shot almost everything at ISO 800 & F8. I think shooting at ISO 800 gives the RAW files a more filmic look straight out of the camera, I found I didn’t have to do ANY noise reduction at all. The 23mm F2 Fuji lens is...

K&F Concept Canon FD to EF lens adapter with optical correction glass. Having gotten excellent results from their M42 to EF lens adapter I was curious to see how this adapter would compare especially given that it has optical correction glass in it. Canon EOS 5DS And 5DSR | Medium Format Resolution In A Full Frame DSLR
Переглядів 3,3 тис.6 місяців тому
The Canon EOS 5DS/SR are niche cameras that at the time were only surpassed megapixel wise by far more expensive medium format cameras. This is my take on them as a person who has used both models. For some reason the sound is a bit low so you will need to turn it up to hear properly. www.adv.photos davallanthony #advphotos #photography #canon

CANON EOS R7 - Nice Camera But I'm Sending It Back
I bought one last month with shutter count of 12 and it looks it. I paid around $300 USD. I'm enjoying learning how to use it. I also just bought a 70-200mm f/4 L IS in perfect condition for $375. I think I got lucky on that deal. I love this older pro gear. It is very affordable and still produces good results.
Thats great to hear 😀There's so much affordable "Pro" gear out there thats not "new" but still very good.
Спасибо за видео!
Just got mine last week. My focus is photography, so this full frame works for me. I am quite comfortable with recomposing for focus. I will spend time learning this cameras and use my meager budget to get qualit ef lenses.
I had a D 7100 and loved it. I shoot portraits but I understand the main difference with the D7200 is that its buffer is way better so it’s a much better sports shooter. I believe it’s considerably better at low light shooting too.
If you’re paying £1300 for a good used 5DSR, then it’s worth considering a Nikon D850 instead (45MP with more dynamic range & less issues.)
@@Cotictimmy I've just checked and now the D850 is a more expensive than a 5DSR in similar condition and remaining shutter life. The thing that puts me off the D850 is the XQD card slot.
@@acmdv Yes I agree 5DSr bodies are cheaper on eBay than I'd thought. Decent D850 bodies still seem to go for £1350 U.K. upwards - whereas D5Sr bodies are £400-500 cheaper.
Which camera produces sharper images --> 5ds or the 5dsr??
Theoretically the 5DSR but you really have to pixel peep to really notice the difference, also the lens you use has a lot to do with sharpness too.
This is something! I prefer the markIII for the video capability. I wouldn't go back to manual lenses. L glasses is all I need from 24 1.4 to 135 f2
So I have a 5D MkII. My first serious digital full frame camera. I only have about 18,000 clicks on it, which isn't much. It is still in excellent condition. But I just can't see myself selling it off at fire sale price. So what do I do with it? Well, I live near Cape Canaveral, and I have special access to the cape. So this is the camera I set up near the launch pads with a remote sound trigger to get up close and personal shots of the rocket launches. I get great exposures and terrific shots, but should the rocket blow up and take out everything within some radius, I have no really big loss. Great camera for such applications!
Guy,,, you should really stick to the original subject of the video.. You roam all over the place with your thoughts about Nikon, lens mounts and film making. Not to mention the sniffles…
Ok so I like to try and put context in my videos. In the case of mentioning Nikon that was under the context of an alternative to Canon, I pointed out the downside of using Nikon DSLR’s when it comes to using vintage lenses like the one I used on my Canon 5D Mark II because of the flange distance which is why I chose the 5D Mark II over a Nikon D600/610. I mentioned filmmaking under the context that the 5D Mark II brought in the filmmaking revolution that we now all take for granted given the huge video features you find in modern mirrorless cameras today. Black Swan (2010), 127 Hours (2010), Drive (2011), Iron Man 2 (2010), The Avengers (2012), Mad Max: Fury Road (2013) - All these films had scenes filmed on a Canon 5D Mark II. I talk about lens mounts as it is an important subject, you can adapt so many old SLR mount lenses to the Canon EF mount which is an advantage, especially if you also have a mirrorless camera given the number of mount adapters out there to put old SLR lenses on mirrorless cameras. Yes, I did wander a bit but not a ridiculous amount. Lastly, I find your comment about me having the “sniffles” a little petty and that’s all I’m going to say about that.
Audio way too low.
In my film only days, I shot Nikon SLRs and Leica rangefinders. Over the decades, I accumulated a large inventory of Nikon F and Leica M mount lenses. While I waited for Nikon and Leica to produce full-frame digital cameras that accepted my inventory of lenses, I used micro 4/3 and APS-C digital cameras. I was so pleased with my Fuji X-Pro1 and X-Pro2 APS-C cameras that I decided to abandon my full-frame quest.
I enjoyed this video and was particularly impressed with the quality of the images. Unfortunately, because there was no reference, I had no idea which images were shot with which camera body. I'm expanding my concentration on my architecture photography and am interested in going back to the 5 Dsr from my EOS R. However, while I can deal with the dynamic range issue, I'm more concerned about getting high quality details in camera. And since I've never used the Ds version, I just want to know if I'm correct in assuming the 5 Dsr will produce greater detail? Looking forward to your response, and thanks again for this video.
Ok so all the studio model shots were taken with a 5DS and all the rest were shot on a 5DS R. The 5DS R would be more suitable for what you will be shooting though to be honest it's only really noticeable when you zoom in at well over 100% so you might want to take into account how others will be viewing your images before deciding which model to buy.
I chose the 5DS because I was shooting a lot for clothing wholesalers and was worried about moire patterns showing in the fabrics. I can't say for certain that would have been more of an issue with the 5DSR but I'm VERY happy with the amount of detail the 5DS produces with a good lens on it.
It is a good camera
Yes I love my D7100 which I use as a backup to my D500 ...I purchased the D7100 about 4 yrs ago s/h for $450 and love using it when out & about... great ergonomics ss with all Nikon cameras...I haven't considered moving to mirrorless gear yet as I am only a hobbyist & just love taking pics of whatever I see ... Cheers from Australia 🦘🦘😄
Nice information... Yes I wanted to learn the photography with Nikon D7100 and IF I am comfortable planning to move to Mirrorless
Exactly what I want in a video aboht a gear. Lots and lots of sample.
Stellar photos man! Please don't be mad if you run across my new youtube short "Film photography is for losers" it's just a gag. Every photog is a winner in my eyes! Subbed I love Film Photography!
Thanks, I've been debating weather I should stick to digital just for video & go back to film purely for photography.
@@acmdv I get too carried away with wanting to do all personal work on film. Digital still has its place whenever film is impractical. Thank you for understanding my video was a joke. Don't want to upset the film fotog community.
The audio is too low. What gives?
I have had some sound issues where it's quite loud on my computer so I turn it down only for it then to be too low when exporting videos. You will be able to see in later videos I have fixed it. So for now just turn the sound right up for this video.
@@acmdv Got it. Thanks for clarifying.
I think you push any modern camera for shadow retrieval, you are not exposing your photos right. Exteme shadow recovery looks bad on every camera IMO.
If you feel like you need that extra dynamic range, I think medium format is the way to go. The full frame dynamic range peaked with DSLRs and the differences are small.
The problem is that all these photos were shot at ISO 100 and the latitude you have at that ISO on these cameras is significantly less than a NIKON D800/D800E & even a Fujifilm X-T3.
Canons had a particular problem with magenta colour noise, their shadow recovery is noticeably worse.
less than a year ago, I went to my local photo store just to window shopping ( I go there once a year) . Than I saw a used 5dsr+ oem grip(also with all original packaging) on the self, which I found a good price 999.99$ CAD. I knew this camera goes for way higher on ebay. i tried it in store and asked what's the shutter count on it, which they didnt have the info ( they tried with their computer in front of me and it wasn't able to read the info). I took the leap of fate and bought it, they even gave me a little discount due they couldn't tell me the shutter count f with + 90 days warranty and a 30 days return if I don't like it. later that day I managed to find a program which reads the shutter count info and I couldn't believe it. it only had a littl over 8000 clicks. this is my first and probably my last pro camera. I came from a EOS M50, which I sold few months later as I was using the 5dsr more and getting the hang of it. I am pairing the 5dsr with the Tamron 70-200mm F2. 8 g2 and the details blew me away compare to my old m50. Even thinking of starting photo business as a side line just for fun this summer.
Here where I live,I purchased my 5DS back in June of 2015 and have used it ever since. I love the quality images I get and the latitude for crops is excellent.
I own D800E & Z6 ii.. but I prefer image coming from D800E .. if I use auto mode (S or A) exposure is slightly underexpose for Z6ii.. don't really like metering in Z6ii
I love my xpro2. I totally agree. I often shoot with Nikkors from my FM2n. These are two cameras that capture the essence of manual shooting and filmic essence. My advice is trade in your xpro3 for a throw back xpro2 and go shooting again.
Wonderful video. I am a X-Pro1 shooter and would confirm what you said about Fuji ecosystem and mentioned lenses. Fuji gear is top notch. I also have several other Fuji cameras including analog with the most modern example being X-T30. Love them all, each one for something else I want to shoot. Always fantastic colors. The only model I would still add to my collection is the X-T2.
These are decent cameras with a high count sensor. But unless you are locked in with Canon, my recommendation is to go with a Nikon D850. Superior AF, superior iso performance, shutter that can easily go up to 300000 actuations, much higher burst rate etc, etc, etc. There is a reason why you don't see many on the used market mainly due to the fact that they didn't actually sell very well.
Do you still have and use one of these? I own them both and they are amazing, love them for landscape and nature.
No unfortunately I don't, I found the dynamic range lacking for the kind of of photography I shoot. If I were still shooting a lot of studio work then yes I would ideally love to have the 5DS or 5DSR but I have moved on to a more documentary style which they aren't as well suited for.
Dear friend, the volume of the sound is unfortunately very low.
Thank you, I will be re-uploading with much louder audio.
New version with much louder audio can be seen here:- ua-cam.com/video/xxO8ka7TWIE/v-deo.html

5DSR is a fantastic camera.
Just bought a 7D with less than 500 shots. My old 5D2 is ready for retirement. Looking forward to getting out with it. Cheers.
5DII ready for retirement? What's the shutter count? Don't you ever think about it if the count is less than 500k. 7D will also last that long even more. I own both and continue shooting with them all the time.
Thank you for sharing…Based on this video I purchased this camera for $ 640..00 shutter less than 7400. can you recommend an all in one walk to include 300mm
Tamron 28-300mm f/3.5-6.3 Di VC PZD
Good commentary. Nice pictures. Liked.
So the 100 - 400 is 160 -640 ?
Yes that's correct when you take into account the 1.6 crop factor to get the full frame focal length equivalent.
if you want to make a print A2 or A3 it crushes the iPhones in terms of quality
Nice Photos! :) ...by the way the X-T3 can record 10bit 4k intern
Thanks, I know the X-T4 does but I wasn't sure about that for the X-T3.
Lovely photos. I am generally very happy with my XT3 and see no need to upgrade at this time.
Yes, I'm looking at expanding my DSLR range with 5D Mark II or Mark III & maybe a 1DX Mark 1 (though I would love a Mark III)
Nice video. I have been using my old Nikon AI lenses with an adapter with my XT3 with excellent results.
The X-T3 is my next video.

@@acmdv Thanks
It has an excellent sensor and was actually the last of the X-T line that was made in Japan. I personally think it is the best value for money camera on the used market aside from maybe the 6D but that camera doesn't do video nearly as well as the T2. It's wild to me that this camera isn't the hype machine that the X100V is because the T2 has the same great colors but interchangeable lenses for less than half the cost. The only thing I'd change about the camera is aesthetically I'd have done brass dials and top and bottom plates.
The X-Pro2 has the same sensor as the X-T2, I will be doing a video about my experience with that camera soon.
I also have some X-T20 images I might share maybe as a combined video with the X-H1.
Nice pictures. I did have the D7200, canon 80d, and the Z5 but I back at the Cannon 40d most of the times because of the colours. I don't like the colours on the modern cameras that much and did not find the gain in sharpness to benefit the artistic value of my pictures. I am not going to upgrade anymore.
Have you considered Fujifilm?
Not really. Maybe a pentax K1 or 645???@@acmdv
@@33antonius You should try an X-T2 or X-Pro2, the colours are really nice & you have access to Fuji's really good film simulations.
OK thank you, better than XT-3?@@acmdv
@@33antonius The X-T2 & X-Pro2 both use the 24MP sensor. The X-T3, X-T4, X-S1, X-S2 & X-Pro3 all use the same 26MP sensor (not the one in the X-H2s).

What a great selection of images!! X-T5 looks like a great camara! thank you for sharing!
Why are you sending it back?
Well as I say in the video description and my blog entry on my website - www.adv.photos the whole shooting experience was a real let-down which is something I've not experienced with a Canon camera before. One of the things I really struggled with was the size of the EVF, it's really small and I wear glasses which made it really difficult to use I couldn't use the screen to shoot because it's not a very good screen & I would have to keep taking my glasses off to be able to see the screen. These photos are from a morning walk I took on the edge of the village I live in, normally I would be gone for 3 to 3 1/2 hours but I cut it to 1 1/2 because of the problems I was having, they stopped me wanting to continue which is a red flag. For me photography isn't just about taking pictures, it's the whole shooting experience so when a camera makes me NOT want to go out & shoot photos thats bad. Does this answer your question?
@@acmdv Sure. Sorry it didn’t work for you. I wear glasses too but I have no problems but if I did I would take it back too. Good luck.
