Canon 5D Mark II In 2024

- I recently purchased a Canon 5D Mark II.
I've been thinking about maybe doing a whole series of videos about older cameras (as well as buying them), what do you think?
I don't know about you but I'm getting a bit fed up with the way the camera market is going at the moment. It seems every other camera now as "AI" enhanced autofocus etc. In all this "AI" noise has the purpose of photography been forgotten?
Let me know what you think.

So I have a 5D MkII. My first serious digital full frame camera. I only have about 18,000 clicks on it, which isn't much. It is still in excellent condition. But I just can't see myself selling it off at fire sale price. So what do I do with it? Well, I live near Cape Canaveral, and I have special access to the cape. So this is the camera I set up near the launch pads with a remote sound trigger to get up close and personal shots of the rocket launches. I get great exposures and terrific shots, but should the rocket blow up and take out everything within some radius, I have no really big loss. Great camera for such applications!
Great lens choice. I love the old screw on m42 lenses. Either Zeiss or the Takuma lenses are still fantastic. Cheers for the video.
I bought one last month with shutter count of 12 and it looks it. I paid around $300 USD. I'm enjoying learning how to use it. I also just bought a 70-200mm f/4 L IS in perfect condition for $375. I think I got lucky on that deal.
I love this older pro gear. It is very affordable and still produces good results.
Thats great to hear 😀There's so much affordable "Pro" gear out there thats not "new" but still very good.
Looks like you were out near Shoreham adur river area. Funnily enough ive shot with my 5d mk ii along there too. Bought mine online from Park cameras Burgess Hill for £169 73,000 shutter count 6 months warranty. I've shot videos at couple of friends weddings and footage came out lovely (one of them using magic lantern which shot in 10 bit raw).
I've lived in the same village for 46 years.
Just got mine last week. My focus is photography, so this full frame works for me. I am quite comfortable with recomposing for focus. I will spend time learning this cameras and use my meager budget to get qualit ef lenses.
I gave away a 5D MK II to another photographer. We'll over one million shutter count and still going strong. It'll br still going at 2 million.
Nooooh are you serious?1million shutter actuations on it?
Did you change the shutter on it?
@williamswilliam1152 no, it's still original.
@williamswilliam1152 Still original. I did, however, maintain and lubricate the mechanism to factory specs every 50K shots.
Guy,,, you should really stick to the original subject of the video..
You roam all over the place with your thoughts about Nikon, lens mounts and film making. Not to mention the sniffles…
Ok so I like to try and put context in my videos.
In the case of mentioning Nikon that was under the context of an alternative to Canon, I pointed out the downside of using Nikon DSLR’s when it comes to using vintage lenses like the one I used on my Canon 5D Mark II because of the flange distance which is why I chose the 5D Mark II over a Nikon D600/610.
I mentioned filmmaking under the context that the 5D Mark II brought in the filmmaking revolution that we now all take for granted given the huge video features you find in modern mirrorless cameras today.
Black Swan (2010), 127 Hours (2010), Drive (2011), Iron Man 2 (2010), The Avengers (2012), Mad Max: Fury Road (2013) - All these films had scenes filmed on a Canon 5D Mark II.
I talk about lens mounts as it is an important subject, you can adapt so many old SLR mount lenses to the Canon EF mount which is an advantage, especially if you also have a mirrorless camera given the number of mount adapters out there to put old SLR lenses on mirrorless cameras.
Yes, I did wander a bit but not a ridiculous amount.
Lastly, I find your comment about me having the “sniffles” a little petty and that’s all I’m going to say about that.
@@acmdvfor what it's worth I thought it was a well balanced informative video👍
@@warrenrae32 I'll be doing another one soon as well as one on the Nikon D700.
