Just bought a 2017 S1000XR after riding Multistrada 1200S and R1200GS the last year. Did'nt experiance any vibes in handle bars that I cant live with. Not worse than other bikes. My biggest "disaponitment" is tha lack of torque in low/mid range. The GS i much stronger in 3000-6000 rpm. The engine goes mental over 8500rpm.

I've just bought a 2018 one. Stepping up from a Tracer 900 which was a lot of fun to ride. Thought your review was bang on. Everyone mentions the vibes. On my mates recommendation I've gone and bought a 42 tooth rear sprocket to lower the cruising revs. I haven't fitted it yet as I'm still not sure I want to up all the gears. The "Cuban rider" mentions the smaller rear sprocket in his reviews. Good vid.

Good first look at an (IAM / Rospa) advanced system. Remember guys ...the other Information we can Take, Use and Give (T.U.G Information) from the form of Brakelights. So if we see brake lights we should plan to stop, but be prepared to go.(Take and Use ) A close following FASTARD in a car may provoke us bikers into just "showing" that rear brake light to hold em back ! (Give) Someone indicating ? it only means that their bulb hasn't blown !! Postion Golden rule of positioning is that we must always sacrifice our position for safety ... sounds obvious but we all do it most of the time, instead of creating a safety "space bubble " around ourselves. We want to see and be seen. RH bends (if its safe )we generally approach nearside, after using the information gathered to assess our (Safety, Stability ... then View ) requirements. This nearside position often gives us a greater turn radius for stability, and often keeps us away from oncoming traffic violators. we get to see and be seen earlier too ! LH bends (if its safe) we adopt a position closer to the crown of the road to maintain our view advantage . Busy 30's and 40's ? we generally equalise the risks from nearside and offside hazards by dominating the centre of our lane. On those roads (unless safety decides otherwise)we are in a position that is a reasonable compromise. Always sacrifice any of these positions when positioning elsewhere is the safer option ...it always changes ! Speed. We need to stop in the distance we can see to be clear on our own side of the road ! Lose the View ... Lose the Speed Another cliche ? ... but that too is often disrespected. Many road users just try to see how fast they can negotiate a corner or bend ... rather than judging it using the "Limit Point Analysis" method...Go Research it ! Gear. The bike is most stable when the engine / transmission is just pulling the bike and the tyres are not fighting for grip. Thats why riding uphill steadily ususally feels ace ! The correct gear to select comes with experience / practice, but it needs to allow progressive drive without labouring or over-revving the engine. Flexibility is best so we can increase or decrease speed without braking. The right gear, for the speed we are dealing with at that moment ! Acceleration. This might often just involve finely balancing the use of the throttle to negotiate the hazard , while under complete control in the correct (flexible) gear for the road speed is all it needs. While planning and scanning, our information changes dynamically so we revisit the system at the appropriate point. Hope this helps?? on top of this very good video introduction ??

Max Jackson I definitely noticed the difference. At the end of the day you are in control of the power so it’s down to your judgement. After having the XR and unfortunately having an accident (low speed) I decided to go for a change and got a GS Rallye, not as powerful but just as much fun.

So you didn't feel that the bike was too much? I mean yeah, you're in control of the power. That's a shame bud. What was the main reason for changing? What advice would you give to someone in the same position as you on the F800 who wanted to move to an XR?

Max Jackson although I didn’t feel like the power was too much, I decided that having only ridden for a year and then to jump on such a powerful bike probably wasn’t the best idea. It was a lot of fun but I found I got into a few uncomfortable moments coming into bends too quick. There very little engine breaking on the XR and if you are in experienced you get to a bend very quickly. I just found it was easy to get carried away and cut off my thinking time. With the GS I have just as much actually more fun as I feel like it’s enough power for me and the bike is just so capable. Bottom line, you know your riding ability so if you think you can handle the step up then just take it easy when you get one, they are fantastic bikesx

Great video. I'd like to test ride the XR next year when i upgrade. Currently on a Tracer 700... I'm going to have to take a change of underwear with me aren't i?
