"I bought this telescope, not as a beginner but as an experienced user, for my 16" self-built truss tube Dobsonian. Simply because of the code for the app. I could also build the mount myself. I find it a missed opportunity that you don't offer the whole thing separately without the telescope. I've seen some Dobsonian users with 20" and 24" Dobsonians using this system at ITV this year, and it works really well, even though it's still too bright for important target stars at 200x. Offer it separately for around 50 dollar or so, and it would sell like hotcakes. Clear skies Felix"

Love this for a refresher! Just found two Japanese made scopes (New and In the box) both came with EQ mounts. The first was an orange tube Celestron "comet catcher" and the second a Tasco 911 TR. Both were sealed from the factory. The Celestron mirrors appear to be much higher quality. Weird focuser however and probably will tinker with the Tasco to get reacauinted after years of GOTO garbage scopes.

Yes I have one I bought from you and cant get it to work.. It’s on a Nextstar 6SE. It goes through the autoaline process and tells me it’s been successful. Then I pick something to look at from the menu and it swings in completely the wrong direction. I have been to the Geelong astronomical society and Dave there spent a couple of hours trying to get it to work. With no success. I don’t know what to do next.

Brilliant tutorial, well done! Just a question on the EQ Mod cable - you mention that you use this cable as opposed to the Synscan hand held unit - does the cable replace the Synscan completely, and does the ASIAIR provide the same functionality as the Synscan? Apologies for the simple question, but I'm just starting out and have bought the ASIAIR plus, along with a ZWO 662 MC camera. I have a Saxon MAK 127/1500 telescope. Thanks ! 🙂

Reminds me of when my new car idle was too high, needed to adjust but couldn't find the screw. Bought the manual, went to the appropriate page, which showed a photo of the carburetor with a chart and caption that read "make the adjustment". Assumptions. Excellent video. I have used many optical devices for decades, including two telescopes. I have found that the maximum useful magnification on the vast majority of amateur-level telescopes, including substantial Dobsonians, Newtonians, catadioptric, and refractors, is about twice the diameter, in millimeters, of the primary optic, be it a mirror or lens. And that is only possible, and enjoyable, on one night out of perhaps six or ten clear nights. The reason is that the eyepieces that come with factory scopes are often of poor quality, but the main reason is that the skies above, even when apparently crystal clear, are stratified and the seeing is therefor poor. Stratification is going to be evident when stars twinkle. If bright stars twinkle, it means the air is moving in pockets above you and creating its own lensing effect, which means distortion. So, near the 7:30 minute mark, when the maximum magnification is announced, and it is over 400 power....that's almost nonsense.

This technology has high 'face validity', which means that it seems to be intuitively true and useful. Newcomers to the hobby quickly become overwhelmed by posts on forums suggesting a way ahead for them in the dense forest of information, technology, and gear. Then, there's how to use the scope, what to look at, and where do I find it? This system will replace the anxiety and numerous errors and frustrations with almost immediate success and pleasure. This, in turn, means retention, a larger market for all the retailers, and more knowledgeable and experienced amateurs populating the discussions on forums and getting even more 'newbies' sorted out and on the right path.

I have just come across this video of the Skywatcher GTI, it is on my to get one list, I have been watching heaps of videos on this mount and I have come to the conclusion that this mount will be a good grab and go mount. I have the Skywatcher Black Diamond ED80, with a tube weight of only 2.6kgs this mount should carry this scope with out to much trouble. I would have either a dslr (Cannon 1300D) or a dedicated astro camera connected to the scope, but the prime reason for wanting this mount is for my PST40 solar scope, I am finding that my EQ6-R Pro is getting to heavy to lug out side all the time. I would appreciate you thoughts on my plan. Cheers Robert Vict'
