Hi All. Today with Dr. Frahnkensteeen. Have a video on how I made my spark plug wires for my Porsche 944 Turbo. In order to do this. you need to retain you stock wires you remove. There are some options to buy premade ones. But just wanted to make my own since I had the parts and wanted to have fun. I put sleeves over my wires as well. 12 Volt AC Compressor in a 944 Part 1
thys system requires about 800-900 watts , meaning a very strong alternator, with 1000w more than the original, how did you solved this?
what year is this 924s?
How can I make my turbo sound like this. I just bought the TiAL 38mm wastegate, what else do I need to make that Wooooosh sound that so addicting
What do you recommend cleaning the lock cylinders/springs, and pins with?
What about the voltage? It was a guy putting one in an old Chevrolet truck and he said it pulled allot and recommended using an second battery and upgraded alternator.
Can you swap the left and right door locks with each other?
The barrel of the locks are fairly universal for the doors and can be swapped. Sometimes you can swap the whole handle over for the Early cars. For the late models with Central locking and scripted handles are Left, right only.
Martin G si ves esto dale like!!!!
Mr Frahnkenstien!!!!! Any 924 updates?
Nothing yet. I am thinking about going to my Dads tomorrow and doing some tinkering on the wiring if I can get away from the house lol.
how did it go? did you make nay new videos on this?
uploaded a new video, with some good and bad news >_<
Approximately how long did it take to change?
I have a 944 without an engine and I have three Audi 4.2s laying around my shop. I’ve been seriously considering this swap. I would love to know more about the modifications you’ve made to get the engine to fit.
Hiya. Here is a thread to my build. I have not done much of anything lately. between work and house needs, my car stuff has grind to a halt. forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-engine-conversion-tech-forum/941956-audi-v8-924-a.html A lot of work was needed. I am going to be redoing the strut housings and the runners with tubes.
I'm thinking about doing this swap now... I got everything but the fuel pump. do you know if its as easy on the b5.5?? got a 2003.
Is there any way to not to drain coolant system ?
You do not have to drain the coolant. the lines removed are part of the fuel.
🔥
yoooo lyons, how u been buddy. long time no see, funny i just came across a youtube video with you in a it out of the blue. hsl49 buddy, i had that my blue datsun 240z i used to drive on base.

We can give better comperssor
Link to it compressor?
How much will it cost for me..
I wonder if there's a risk of going too big for the AC condenser If not I think I'm going to go with the biggest one that I can possibly fit.
I have actually never seen or heard of a risk of a condenser being too large, only too small. Over all the condenser should be suitable for the cabin size. Depending on the size of your classic. Say a large A body. going with a 19"x30" would be the smallest recommended.
@@dr.frahnkensteeen4485 think of it as a large van or small motorhome That's what I'm going to be cooling down. Has the original dealer installed AC system in the dashboard but the rest of the system is missing. Hoping to convert something like this and be able to run it with the engine off. Possibly strictly off solar or being plugged in at a campsite.
I'm enjoying the videos seeing what it takes to make one of these systems work. Thinking about doing something like this on the classic van of mine.
Thank you. I am happy to hear it! it has been a steep learning curve
You're not supposed to use pag oil in them bag oil is electronically conductive need to use hybrid non-conductive refrigerant oil or else the pumps can/will burn up
I figured that out after I did the video.
@@dr.frahnkensteeen4485 I didn't know it either until just tonight after loads of research. Unfortunately there isn't much on these systems.
Hello, does it work with the factory fan controllers?
Hi. I have it set up on its own switch. I explain about it in a later video. I planned on having it run off the factory AC switch, But ran into a few complications with that. But I do plan on going back to that route once I get the system running good and can actually go for a drive test.
Hi Dr F found this info and also as mentioned on Rennlist, is it possible to give an update on the VW VR6 INA lifters now after some 3 years use, I'm in a similiar situation now getting hydraulic lifters for my Porsche 944S if also heard that a similiar fitment is an alternative using Ford Cosworth's too (this a UK model)
Hiya. So far no issues at all with the lifters. It is still happy ^_^ I had did not know that about the Ford. That is pretty cool. Those Sierra Cosworths are fun from what i have seen and heard.
The Cosworths were from the same era and much sorted by guys on a lower budget compared to the cost of Porsches. For modifying, racing, stealing and crashing. Add poor build quality ie that rust worm there’s very few of these cars left now and are very collectible and going up in value all the time.
Ive fitted the Cosworth tappets/lifters these are an Motive Components part number "HL66C" Hydraulic tappet/lifter in my 944S and so far so good
Thanks for saving me alot of time I was able to do it without removing any fuel lines. I even left the braket. For the bottom bolt I used a Milwaukee 3.5" long T30 torx bit that has a skinny and round shaft with a 1/4 to 1/4 socket and a 1/4 sviwel rachet. You can also use a stubby 1/4 ratchet that would be even better.
Very happy to hear this video helped you out! Also thank you for tossing in some tools notes, Those are always useful.
Hi, did you drain coolant system ?
How long did it take you on mines i gotta changed it i dont have to take the lines out
@@cylogistics8262 if you have all tools ready shouldn't take longer than an hour or two. I also used a snake camera to look around the area but not necessary
@@forestcleaner2322 didn't drain nothing
What compressor is best
Not sure. Only have used this one.
Kindly tell me about alternater and battery ahms please
Alternator is from a Nissan quest., and my battery is a standard H6 that the Porsche came with. it is around 70 amp hours.
Thank you sir
Nice attempt . But the pag oil is going to burn out your ac compressor. The correct oil for this unit is POE 68. Iv gotten the chance to speak to the manufacturer of this type of compressor and they said that pag oil is mineral bases and is some what conductive which may result in shorting of the windings
I did find that out too. so no PAG was added lol.
What an awesome project! I assume it is running by now? What 8 or 10 bolt flywheel was used and adapter plate to connect to the torque tube? Thanks.
Thank you. It has been an insane amount of work and with my current work schedule and living conditions I have not made any new progress on this car. I have done small things here and there with wiring, and tubing.. I have a 8 bolt flywheel, all aluminum type, I was able to get it for an amazing deal 4 years ago or so. My plate is the Audi V6 spacer welded to a Porsche 924 turbo bellhousing.
@@dr.frahnkensteeen4485 Oh thanks. That's all you had to do was clock the 1/2" thick 2.7T spacer how you wanted and TIG welded it straight to the Porsche bellhousing? All the offsets were correct? How about the crank position sensor? Also, must it be located in the EXACT SAME LOCATION as in the D2 A8L? Thanks
@@vwaudiwelder You are welcome. Pretty much, about 85% of the holes lines up to the v8. Only ones I have to mod slightly are for the starter. For the crank sensor, I may have to weld in some metal, drill it out at the location needed. But the stock 931 sensor location is super close..
Did you finish the 924?
Not yet, still at my Dads house in the back of the garage. Have other cars that went in front of her for now.
How do it work😊
Iam running into a problem with wiring for my 1.8t i swapd a 2.7t into it got fuel no spark keepd same harness for body harness
If I remember correctly there is a heavy gauge Red wire with green stripe that you need to make sure has 12volts going to it. if not, then you will have to cut it and run a separate relay with ignition power. the heavy wire comes off the Orange connector.
@@dr.frahnkensteeen4485 There’s probably a minimum of four wires that need to be ran. 12v+, ground, signal and another I need to know all four. If you can direct me to em and help pls appreciate it
@@albion904 I only had to apply 12volts to the Heavy red with green. The other ones connected just fine. I have a B5 Chassis, I can double check my APB 2.7t harness tomorrow.
How can you tell if it’s bad
Using a good scan tool, check the fuel pressure, it should stay fairly close to the commanded pressure from the ECU, if it does not and goes up and down, normally it is the metering valve. If you do not have a scanner, start the engine and listen to it. if the valve is going bad The engine will have a harsh idle or will cough, where it will almost sound like it is wanting to die but recovers.
Thanks bro did the 145 amp alternator work on the system?
It actually did, with the system running at full RPM alternator was able to keep the charging system at 13.2volts. when I had the120amp was barely holding at 12.1volts while running.
Hello friend, greetings from Venezuela, excellent work, I cannot understand very well what you are saying, I am using Google translator to write to you, thanks to your video I was able to clear my doubt, you can buy just the compressor and use it with the car's original system Based on your experience, can you give me some recommendations? I want to do it in my Chinese minitruck which has a very small engine, I have the evaporator, condenser, refrigerant lines, etc., but I am thinking of installing an electric compressor, will they be durable?
Hello to you, My apologize for the delay. I have been working a lot. Happy that you can least see what is accomplished. You can purchase the compressor, but It will have to be adapted to the factory Refrigerant lines. The biggest obstruction in using a Electric Compressor is to be sure the Alternator is producing enough Amperage to power it. If your alternator in the Mini Truck is anything under 125 Amps the compressor will function poorly. As for durable.. I can not confirm anything, mainly have let it sit and run for a good 30 to 45 minutes at a time with no faults. But extended use beyond that I am no sure.
Does your AC compressor run continuously?
Just sitting in one spot it does, also I deemed the condenser I installed too small, so it has been upgraded. I have not been able to go for a drive to see if it hits the lower pressures needed to shut off
So that's why the factory condenser on my MR2 is so big. I think I'll just reuse it rather than get what you had. Thanks for saving me the headache! 👍 edit: is that a different coolant tank? If so, that's a pretty neat upgrade you did. I'm currently trying to make a VW spherical coolant tank (with the steam pipe setup) work with my Toyota. I can't remember if the 944/24 had the steam pipe setup or not, they might have had a simple overflow tank system instead edit 2: I also bought that same crimp kit!
Sorry got the delayed response, work has been insane lately! Very glad the information helped you for sure. I am using a coolant tank from a VW/Audi B5 series. The 944 coolant tanks have become stupid expensive and I have always wanted to move the reservoir up higher then the engine and away from the front. Both the 944 and 924 have expansion type tanks, no steam pipes/vents. Hold constant pressure under engine operations. The crimp kit works nicely. I may be testing a different type of line and fitting style next on my car, will see how it goes.
Tryed making it work on a ls swaped s10 and it did not work wit 4 difrent size orfices compressor was to small for the system problaby only works with like a under dash ac unit small evaporator or maybe using expansion valve insted of orphis tube
Sorry you had issues. My evap system uses an expansion valve.
any details on what you tried?
Nice! Thanks for updating us!
Thank you are you are welcome.
Thanks for the complete rundown. I think I might give this a try on my 88 rx7
You are welcome ^_^
Keep up the good work!
Thank you.
great work! did you have any wiring connection problems?
Thank you. I swapped out the 2.7 a while back, but for wiring was mainly down to getting power to the right pins. I also had to set up a separate power replay for the power to the coils.
@@dr.frahnkensteeen4485 thank you for answer. I'm going to do the same swap from mine W8 which feels very bad

I was wondering if something like this would work and that led me here. Good to know. Cool stuff!
Very Happy this helped you out! Thank you for commenting. It helps a lot for sure.
I am caught up with your project! Subscribed to you so I can catch an update if you make one. So am I understanding correctly, that the controller for the system is faulty? It looked like it was working in part 8 though. If the weak point of these Ebay kits is that controller, that puts serious doubt for my project. I figure an alternative to not using said controller would be a circuit opening piggyback relay off the compressor clutch but that also doesn't seem like a robust system.
I appreciate that. I do not feel the controller is faulty since with the correct reference voltages from the evap it does turn on and turn off. There was trouble shooting that needed to happen for me to get this sorted. The controller appears to rely on a twin power then the ground signal comes through. Similar to fuel injectors. Most systems a fuel injector has 2 power to hold it closed, then 1 power turns to ground from the ECU and fires off the injector. From what i have learned on this AC controller is it has that some basic principle for operations and most EFI systems for getting fuel to the cylinders. Hope that makes sense.
Hello. I've been daydreaming about doing something like this for my MR2 for years now. So, was it worth it? What are some lessons learned? How would you do it differently? I was thinking I might need a bigger battery, maybe even a second one like how some trucks are set up. Some 18 wheeler setups I've seen have like four or five batteries in their APU AC setups. I was also thinking I'll need a bigger alternator since my car has one of those old school 80a alternators. That's probably the easy part. If everything goes right, I would have a more balanced car, my car wouldn't shake as much when running the AC, declutter the engine bay [but add to the frunk, sacrifices I'm willing to take], and get past this brain constipation I have with this idea that's been floating around lol I'm gonna head over to your part 2 and watch all your videos now. Thanks in advance!!!
So far I have had limited time to do anything on this since part 10. Lessons learned, Larger condenser will be going in and possibly changing the hoses to a Low Barrier type. Having a good solid battery is a must, mine is a H6 group. Not really a need for two unless you want to attempt to run this system which out the engine running. I have a 145AMP alternator what actually does really good from a Nssan Quest.
@@dr.frahnkensteeen4485 Thank you for sharing and responding. I saw your alternator upgrade. Also thought about the hoses, I was thinking I might do with a solid tubing setup although that might end up cracking some time, but it would eliminate the need for hoses. I'll note your point about the battery. I was not wanting to dual battery since that would be heavy. I feel better about following your footsteps now. Thank you
@@kalui96 You are welcome. Happy to help! Going all solid would be cool, but higher chances of failures, would have to have some flexible areas. Having a good healthy battery is vital to his set up or it will kill the battery is about 2 weeks of sitting. Good call for not wanting the dual battery, it is heavy and can raise your over all cost a lot more. Anything else i can help with please let me know. I hope this Sunday I can do some more work on this and actually go for a test drive. Very happy that this has helped you.
This is the video I've been looking for. I will use a 96v electric AC compressor in my build. I have converted my Suzuki (Kei) minipick up to electric and it runs on 96v, hence, the current draw will not be as much..
Very nice! Blessing on your conversion ^_^
@@dr.frahnkensteeen4485 Thank you.. The AC installation is my nxt challenge.. Never made water fitting repair that did not leaked on the 1st install, much more on an A/C fittings.. Hahaha.. Im sure it will be a stiff learning curve for me.
I've been following this pretty closely. It'd be nice to have a video fully explaining the results and system setup. I'm sure you are quite busy though
I will try and set some time aside to do a detail video on this for sure.
@@dr.frahnkensteeen4485 thank you! I really appreciate the videos you've made so far on the topic

Can you show how many watts of energy it consumes max?
I will see if I can get a watt meter from work or amp meter.
about 600 watts plus condenser/evap fans about 200 watrs. need a real bigger 170A alternator.
The high pressure seems low, on 89 it should be at around 200 225,I want to do an electric setup on my ranger let's see how yours behave
I think I have a small leak. head pressure was around 190 and then it dropped. I need to do a nitrogen pressure test to find it so my system will stay charged.
