We are going to run through some recent statistics and information to see if moving to Alberta makes sense in 2025.
Inflation in Alberta outpaces Canada.
Canada’s inflation rate rose in Oct by 2%. Alberta rose by 3%.
While houses in Canada dropped slightly, Calgary saw an increase in the cost of housing.
While taxes are going up everywhere, taxes in many areas are rising faster than those elsewhere.
Cities like Calgary have had explosive growth, and this has put a strain on infrastructure. Roads are overused causing damage and congestion, schools are over crowded and hospitals are worse than 3rd world countries filled with patients, and not enough doctors and nurses.
As a result cities and towns are looking to borrow money to cover costs. Calgary’s mayor said they would consider a one billion dollar loan simply to fix water issues. Borrowing money may fix issues that councils neglected in the past, but it puts a huge burden on the future taxpayers.
Unemployment in Alberta is at 7.3% a 1.3 percent increase since last year. This is the third highest unemployment rate behind newfoundland and PEI.
Rent has increased about 10% more than previous months. Rent is now one of the highest in all of Canada, even in small rural towns.
While international immigrants have decreased by about 1% inter provincial migration is still high up 11% from last year. Most of the migration is coming from British Columbia and Ontario.
According to the latest statistics the average cost of living per person in Calgary is
$3,20.90 per month with a shared apartment or dwelling.
A family of four will need about $5,647.50 plus at least $3000 per month for rent.
By these estimates you will need to make at least: $52,000 to live comfortably as an individual.
A family of of four would need about $133,000 to live comfortably.
What we will find later in this video is that wages are not keeping up with this cost of living.
Alberta is in bad shape, as is the rest of Canada. There is no sugar coating it. But there is some hope depending on your situation.
Alberta does go through boom and bust periods and it appears even though Alberta and Canada seem like an impossible place to live at the moment - there is hope.
There will be an election in the fall of 2025 and it appears the conservative party of Canada is heavily favored. This means that Alberta will not be ignored and its economic drivers, particularly oil and gas will be favored by the conservatives.
The US is the largest producer of oil, however, they need more energy than they can produce and with the Trump administration taking control, they vow to open up the Keystone XL pipeline which will benefit Alberta considerably.
I expect 2025 to be a tough year for most Canadians not excluding Albertans. But there is a lot of demand for some workers in the province. Let’s go through what Albertan employers are looking for:

Very good tour!
I like your videos
Cool items and cool video
Canada as a whole is falling apart.
IT IS BAD
wow
Absolutely nuts
It is
Everything is spot on here. Alberta is not what it used to be. Too many people flooded in.
Its really upside down.
I was just looking at moving and every town or city in Alberta has gone batching crazy on how much they want for shelter
So many people moving here, that is why. Demand and greed. Two years ago some of these houses were half price of what they are now. It is stupid.
The demand for housing and rent is very high with a lot of new people moving to Alberta. In addition many taxes on these properties have gone up as well as insurance etc. BUT you are right, it is bat-shit crazy when a basement is renting for $3000 in rural Alberta. Many of these houses have doubled and tripled in price since 2020. The problem is that people in Ontario or BC sell their property and they see something here half the price and don't care what they pay - they even pay more than asking price in some cases - and that fuels greed. It is very difficult to live here now. Check my newest video that explains a bit more: ua-cam.com/video/4AvtwrmxNoI/v-deo.htmlsi=SOcHH0uPDOBA4hrX
Wow those ARE shocking numbers. How are people going to survive? Seriously bad.
I don't know.
