I don’t know why cleaning poop is frowned up by some nurses. Nursing is a holistic process of caregiving. Please, go into nursing to help the sick and weak, and not be blinded the money and looking good in a fancy scrub.

I did it. WhenI went to LVN school I worked double weekends as a medication aide and have 8 kids, I came out at the top of the class as the valedictorian. It sucked and yes it was hard, but it was only for a small amount of time. I’m currently in the bridge program and working a FT 2-10 job until I start clinicals, then I will go back to double weekends. Again It sucks but you have to do what you have to do!

2nd shift is where it's at for me at least. I love it. 3 to 11, I can get home by 12 and to sleep by 1 and get a full sleep and have time in the Am before work to do what I need to do. Like go to the gym, the store, appointments, etc. Only downside is everything and I mean just about everything happens during the week at night lol. It's either you miss it or use time to go. Other than that, I'm fine with it. I don't really do anything outside of work besides chill.

It's not just Cali, I live in the great old South Florida and my base pay for LPN is $35. By the way I don't work in a nursing. I only did nursing home for 6 mos back in 2011 and have never done a nursing home since. So I'm curious to what hospital offered him $12 an hour. I just think you have to know your worth because I see RN positions here in FLA paying less than $25.

In about 4 states this is allowed. I researched the board of Nursing in my state because it is listed as one of them. There was no information to verify or deny this. Out of curiosity I emailed the Board of Nursing. A reply from the board is "pending." Being a nurse for years I would say that yes LPNs has some knowledge however RN school and LPN school differs greatly. Some things are out of the LPN's scope of practice, regardless of how long they have been a nurse, therefore, they may have witness but never performed certain duties even if they are actually capable. It is to my understanding to suggest that those states that allow the challenge would more than likely require some sort of Preceptorship first in order to be considered a candidate to challenge the board. It would be difficult to believe that without further education, taking the NCLEX would be a breeze, especially if the LPN only has long term care experience. I have to wonder if received a ASN could the nurse later further his/her education for the BSN program. Probably not. It may also be difficult for the nurse to obtain endorsement to another state should relocation to another state arrived.

Am I opinion most nursing specialties are hiring just like every job in America they are just looking for the right person. They don’t want to hire someone who doesn’t have a good work ethic or can really value to a team. The unfortunate part is they’re hiring metrics where they have recruiters, and artificial intelligence that filters out good candidates. Someone who might look good on paper might not be a good candidate compared to someone who is overlooked, but would have been a good fit. I have experienced this working dialysis as a patient care tech. I am going to graduate nursing school soon and it has been a struggle to find a internship. I can definitely see, the reasons for not wanting to hire a new grad because it does take a long time to learn new things and a lot of resources to teach someone.
