I think daytime is best because there’s a lot of things to learn. Like how to take reports from drs put in labs orders receiving orders make appointments etc
I’m an experienced nurse. I work nights. At my facility new nurses can really have their choice of shifts, but all new nurses start on days for a time just because they consider it best for learning new skills, having more help around, and because there is a smaller work load since they staff more nurses on days. At night there are only 4 nurses in the building. Days has roughly 17 in the building. My facility offers a huge nights shift differential so it’s always in demand!
I never heard of new nurses started only on nights. From my experience and where I am from new nurses start on a line where its four on five off where you do 2 days and 2 nights and five days off. I started off working that line but as I advanced in my career, I prefer to work nights for the premium and also not dealing with the micro management. I think its dangerous new nurses to do only do nights because they need to more support during the day. Also night nursing and day nursing are different because different things happen. During the day you have support, on nights you have to work on your own and solve things on your own.
@NurseMoneyTalk one would think but you have the choice of doing the traditional continental (2 on 2 off 3 on 2 off 2on 3 off) for days then repeat it again for nights or the DDNN then off for five days. I personally never heard of new nurses having to start on nights. Thats insane.

The 3-11 is my favorite, because its not to late or too early there is a balance.

Isn't that worse having to flip flop so much working 2 day shifts and 2 night shifts?

New nurses need support so morning shift is better
