    Very nice informative video. I also have the zoom h5. Great recorder. And I also use an iPhone for quick recording. I have recently bought the shure mic for the iPhone and it is so good as well. When you played it through the mics you can tell how much better it is then just using the iPhone mic. I am so bad with forgetting to get my interface or my zoom that half the time I would jzur use the iPhone. That’s why I got the shure because it clips right onto a Tripod making it very easy for me to remember!

    • @rootrhythm

      I personally prefer playing tongue drums in minor scales for more ambient/soothing sounds due to their naturally meditative acoustics and the depth and dimension to how these scales flow. I really love B-minor, but if another minor scale calls to you, then you really can't go wrong with a pentatonic scale.

    I really like the sound of these drums I've always just listen to tongue drum music during devotional time add meditation. So I've been considering on purchasing one to possibly create my own ambient music I do have some music knowledge not a lot I was in banned in 6th grade I did play the trombone. So my question is what about the ones I see on Amazon that are under $100. Is it just a good price does the quality suffer a bit ? I am very new to the tongue drum and would like to give it a shot and start playing.

    • @rootrhythm
      @rootrhythm 4 місяці тому

      So happy to hear you're drawn to the soothing sounds of tongue drums for meditative practices, and I think it's a great idea to explore creating your own ambient music with one of these instruments. So cool! When considering purchasing a tongue drum, particularly those under $100 on Amazon, it's important to keep in mind that lower-priced options may vary in quality compared to higher-end models. While these budget-friendly drums can be a good starting point for beginners, they may have limitations in terms of craftsmanship, sound quality, and durability. Here are a few things that might be helpful in making the best decision: #1 Sound Quality: Cheaper tongue drums might have a more limited tonal range or less resonance compared to higher-quality instruments. This can affect the depth and richness of the sounds you produce. #2 Durability: Build quality is another factor to consider. Lower-priced drums may be made from thinner materials that could affect their longevity and robustness. #3 Playability: The ease of playing and responsiveness of the instrument can vary. Higher-quality drums often have smoother surfaces and better tuning, making them more enjoyable to play. Since you have some musical background, you might appreciate a drum that offers good tuning and responsiveness. If possible, read reviews and listen to demos to get a sense of what to expect from different models within your budget range. Also, consider checking out local music stores where you can try out different tongue drums in person to see what feels right for you. Not all music stores carry tongue drums, so I'd just call and ask to make sure. Hope this helps and Happy Tongue Drumming : )

    Isn't that a 30 cm Dvutone in b or a? If yes, it seems, as if you manipulated its sound. But why? I've got and play this wonderful instrument, too. Its unchanged sound is so much brighter and so much more beautiful, serene, peaceful and bell-like meditative....

    • @rootrhythm
      @rootrhythm 5 місяців тому

      Hi Annette. It's great to hear from a fellow Dvutone player! You have a keen ear - yes, the sound of the instrument was indeed adjusted for the video. The scale is still in B-Minor, just in a lower octave. Kosmosky tuned this one to A440 Hz and I changed it to bring all of the notes into a lower frequency range for a particular effect. The sound may give off a lower pitch sound, but the actual notes are still the same : ) The reason for manipulating the sound is often related to the therapeutic benefits of specific frequencies. In this case, lowering the frequency to the 200Hz range (which is what I did for this song) gives a more calming and grounding effect for me personally. Many practitioners of sound therapy and meditation find that these frequencies help induce a deeper sense of relaxation and focus. There is definitely a range of personal preferences for how pitches and frequencies resonate within the body. I'm glad to hear that you enjoy the unchanged, brighter sound of your instrument for its serene and meditative qualities. Each tone and its variations can evoke different feelings and responses in listeners. The beauty of these instruments lies in their versatility and the personal connections we form with their unique sounds. Feel free to explore different tones and techniques with your Dvutone - there's so much potential for creativity and expression! If you have any more questions or insights to share about playing this wonderful instrument, I'd love to hear them. Appreciate the listen and the comment : ) ~Alex Ray

      @@rootrhythm Thank you very much for your very detailed answer! Now I can understand why you changed the sound of the Dvutone. Yes, the Dvutone offers so many different possibilities of playing and sounds, and so everyone can find out what is most beneficial and enjoyable for them! I, for example, like to bathe in chordal sounds, dissonances and consonances, which I usually play rather gently with my fingers.
