I created this channel so that people could see videos of my project to resoirt a 1974 VW thing and convert it to electric drive... and I keep adding other stuff. Most of the content will be around electric vehicles of one type or another and fishing and camping.

Introducing my new SylvanSport Go and EcoFlow Wave 2 heat pump. I bought the Go to be able to go camping and tow it with my 2022 Tesla Model Y. I will add other videos with a more detailed explanation of how the Go affects range on the Model Y but for now I can say it looks like a 10-20% hit on range when towing 60 to 75 mph. Model 3 Screen Issues
Переглядів 1,9 тис.6 років тому
We took delivery of our Tesla Model 3 today and the touch screen started to malfunction as we drove it home. As you can see, it is getting random touch events along the right side of the screen. Most annoyingly, it causes the volume go up to max unexpectedly on the sound system. I have tried rebooting the screen a few times with no luck. Called Tesla to report the issue and should hear back in ...

This is probably the ONLY all electric VW Thing race in the world... I did cross the line first, but I also red lighted (Left early) by about 0.01 seconds so I actually lost the race to Jack Rickard...
What Prop are you using - Standard prop or Low Pitch ?
I transport these Go's on a regular basis from the factory. Awesome camper!
Hi, this video is fantastic! Thanks. Just one question, you said you made a coupler to attach the vent hose to the black vent covers.. how did you do that? The covers are the same size as the vent hoses so can’t figure out how you got those to attach and seal?
The short answer is I made an aluminum ring that fit tight over the flange on the vents. I just used metallic duct tape to attach them to the hoses…
too early
Nice setup!
Well done! Thanks for sharing! Stay cool! 😎🚙🏜

I tried something similar and now that I have received my ecoflow2 I’m copying your setup. What did you end up using for the permanent coupling of the air vents to the ecoflow hoses?
I made a 5” and 6” ring about 1” thick out of aluminum sheet and used aluminum tape to secure it to the hose. I install them and push the unit back a little and the spring pressure from the hoses keeps them in place… You can just use several layers of the aluminum duct tape. With enough wraps it is stiff enough to stay in place… Start with one layer on the inside and then wrap the extra layers on the outside…
Why does the ecoflow need 2 vents. Usually ac units such as portable floor standing home units have just one for exhaust.
It makes them more efficient. It also keeps from forming negative pressure in the tent…. That pulls in more bugs and humidity…
What model depth finder are you using? Where under the boat did you attach the sensor head? Thanks.
I love this! I have 24' pontoon boat of similar vintage. I've put a 108lb thrust Motorguide trolling motor on it which moves it okay in benign conditions, but won't go against much of a current or wind. I also have an arched solid top on it that is about 8' x 16' I'd like to cover with solar panels. I've heard negative reports on the life span of the flexible solar panels - but the weight of solid panels seems prohibitive. What's your guess about the amount of solar wattage you'd need to yield a near infinite range at a reduced speed? Do you trailer your boat much? Thanks for your post, good pace very informative. I look forward to your progress. (Liked and subscribed!)
I would not use the semi flexible solar panels they just wont hold up for more than a year or two. If weight is the biggest concern the CIGS very flexible solar panels are nearly ideal. However, they are very expensive…. I have ordered 5 100 watt biracial panels (approx $350) and plan to put them on the rear as a fain tail extension. I was going to do a top but there are several problems with that for me I’ll explain in the next video…
@@Webcrawler45 Thanks for you prompt reply Jeff. I'm guessing your lift is being an issue for a top? I'll look into CIGS, I didn't know their price had come down or that they are available bifacial. I'm curious about your CALB battery bank. I see the individual cells online - did you have to add your own BMS? Is that just half your cells? Sorry for all the questions but your setup is so close to mine I'm excited to see how well you have pulled it off. Will it help you any if I click through to tiny boat nation or mention you to them. Thanks again.
@@DavidBeede My covered dock is the main issue. There is not enough clearance when the lake is full for a top to be up that I can walk under. . So I would have to make it able to be lowered which makes it quite top heavy or flimsy...
What did you say was the name of the motor
What do you think the boat weight with everything that you have onboard
😮😮😮😮pontoons aren’t light Waight but you are really moving forward but still cool
Okay but you can’t go skiing with this setup 😅
No, but at my age I dont ski anyway….just for crusing…
Pout a 50 hp eltc or evony 150. Ektric on it
Why not install it lower/under the table, the way you have it, can you still use the large bed?
I thought about it. Everything is a compromise. It was difficult to get the vents located that low and still have the hoses easily manageable. We also like to put some pull out draws under the table and there is room for an ecoflow power station under there as well. Also we both prefer two twin beds over one big one as it gives more room to move around in the GO. We do not even carry the extra table with us any more. It makes it easier to pack the mattresses in the tent shell.
I also use the large bed. I was thinking about supporting a shelf higher up above our heads and the bed using the front bars just like the factory panel table does and using the ceiling structure for outward support and putting the vent holes higher up.
So these new model GO campers don’t have the star glazing windows anymore 😢
Sadly no…
The star gazer windows had issues cracking and leaking because of the plastic hardening over time and the glue coming loose.
@@southerntesla The door also has the clear plastic. Does the door develop issues over time and crack too? I have only been hearing about the window glue issue.
Did you ever post the energy consumption numbers on your Model Y Towing the unit and not Towing the unit? I have a Model Y and will be purchasing one in a few weeks.
Unfortunately I had to cancel my trip. I can tell you that it reduced range about 10% at 60mph and 20% at 70 mph. THis is fully loaded with about 200lbs of gear in the trailer…
@@Webcrawler45 Can you recommend a ball hitch that has the correct measurements for the Tesla Modle Y. SylvanSport on their website says “The height of the ball should be 17″ from the ground to the middle of the ball. “. Also have a Model Y. Thanks
@@Webcrawler45 Can you please share which tow ball hitch you have? Does it measure 17” from ground to middle of the ball which SylvanSport recommends for the GO. I have the same Model Y vehicle and trying to figure out the correct hitch ball mount to get. Thanks
i've been researching. another add on solution is to put something like aluminate shade cloth over the trailer to further reduce the heat factor therefore allowing the Ecoflow to cool better. I checked into the Ecofolow Wave 2 like the fact that it duality purpose is so much better the Cool Breeze. I'm gonna get my trailer, now i just have to think long and hard about cutting into the panel or vent out the door somehow.
You can vent out the lower flaps under the beds. Just put in the hoses and zip up tight on the hoses. I just wanted a better solution. Interesting idea about the shade. I did think about using two awnings and making a Velcro that would attach to the upper bars (before you raise it) and come out the side and just stake down the two ends this way it would shade each side of the camper from the top
@@Webcrawler45 so both hoses can be vented out from the bottom screen. I've jury rigged my a/c round my back door tent before without cutting a hole i can jury rigged this one too. AWESOME!!! come Summer I can at lease have some cooling and this time i learn to use some fans to help blow the cool air around. I would just let the 5K btu do all the work but not do anything to circulate the cold air so of course it was still hot if you were like 2 feet away from the vent... duh me! LOL... I've seen comparison with Ecolflow and Coolbreeze and so far Ecoflow has one extra con going for it is that it can go either cold or hot -- definitely one less equipment to buy!
Please let us know how it’s going. Don’t stop. I’m desperate to hear future results.
Ill be adding stuff but might not be camping for a while….
As pontoon market explodes the need for clean power and low operating coat will draw the masses to electric powered boats. Kudos for this video.
hi- I watchedand liked the pontoon video'. What lake in Ga. are you on?
hi- I watchedand liked the pontoon video'. What lake in Ga. are you on?
Jeff, I am thinking about getting this for my Tesla X. Excited to see this
About to go on my first long trip. (325 mile One way) Will have plenty of data to share soon…
@@Webcrawler45please do share. I live in Texas and while I’m not crazy about putting holes any amount of cooling in the summer would be awesome!!
1300watts will get me 7mph on my canoe so your speeds are really good for a pontoon. :)
put three or four adults in it and it slows down a bit...
very nice
What size and weight is your pontoon? What's the pontoon size 23" 25"?
24" pontoons. Not sure of the weight, but probably around 1,300 lbs..
@@Webcrawler45 thanks. No range issue? I have a 16' with 25" tubes with a 9.9 and considering going electric.
@@john6268 no real range worries. If you have to make a Long trip all you have to do is slow down to about 4 mph and it will run like that for about 64 miles....(lake is only about 20 miles long). at 3 mph it will got for over 100 miles...(you are just not getting anywhere a hurry)
I am really interest in the solar top you mentioned Jeff. Can you provide more info on that? I’m currently running a Spirit Evo Plus with solar charge controller on my 24’ pontoon boat on an electric only lake. It works great for my boat and we can get up to 5mph of speed even with just the Spirit Evo.
Just adding 10-12 100 watt semi flexible panels on an aluminum frame. I am adding a 35A 150v Victron Solar charge controller.
Great work Jeff.
Where would I get spring supports like that
I got them at Ace Hardware.
@@Webcrawler45 okay, thank you
Hi Jeff, one more question. When you close up the trailer at night, can you hear much noise from people outside.
The T@b has fiberglass skins with aluminum frames and about 2.5" of foam insulation. The windows are double insulated. When it is closed up it is as quiet as any camper I have slept in. If you open the large windows, you can obviously Hear quite a lot around you. The over head fan does create a lot of white noise though. When running the A/C it kind of drowns out most outside noise.
Thanks for the video. I’m probably going to get a tab. Did you run into any poisonous snakes on St. George’s Island. I’m from Canada and we just have bears to worry about.
We still like the T@B for long weekend trips. We will likely get a larger airstream when we retire to do longer trips. Rattle Snakes are always a possibility in any area of Florida. However, there does not tend to be as many on islands. If you use a little common sense the snakes go out of their way to avoid humans.
We just purchased our tab in Oct, so far we love it.
We still enjoy ours. It is small but works great for a long weekend camper.
Jeff Southern Glad to hear that, do you still use the tent? Is it worth the price? We live in Ga so thought it would be worth it during the summer to keep the mosquitoes out
F Brewer yep, love the side tent. Doubles the room.
hey there, i'm having issues with my screen. IT DOESN'T EVEN TURN ON. I'm hoping they just replace my unit as they did yours and fixes the issue
Call the closest service center. They should replace it.
yup, i set up an appointment with mobile service to see if they can fix the issue. if not, i have a backup appt at the service center 3 days after
Nice video...I have the same trailer
I'm on the latest software version and having the same issue. I have heard reports of people that have had the screen replaced continue to have the same issue. VIN 177xx. Have you had any other issues since?
New update: Our car is back and the screen seems to be working fine now. They came out with the software update that fixes the screen issue. It seems to have fixed the lower louver opening and closing issue also. Happy so far!
Glad they got it fixed, but I would be very surprised if it was just a software update.
We are now on day 16 for our Model 3 being in the shop. Engineering seems to be taking their time solving this one. We ask our dealer for another screen replacement, but the engineers turned the dealership down. So we sit. : ( and wait.
Wow. I thought for sure I had subscribed to this channel years ago! Well, it's fixed now!
Thing 1, Thing 2?
Hi Jeff ! We experienced the same problem on our new Model 3. Ours happened 200 feet out of the showroom. They eventually replaced the screen, but now, a week and a half later, it has happened again. Our dealership has been very good about loaners. The dealer has been nothing but helpful. We told them to keep our car as long as they want for testing. Our tesla is a third car for me and my wife, so not needed for daily transportation. The car is still in beta and we are all early adopters. Give Tesla time to solve this issue that seems to be growing.
I have a 74 Acapulco with a Surry top and considering an EV West electric conversion too
Can't go wrong with the EV West guys. I know them and know they take excellent care of their customers.
Jeff, is the Model 3, your first Tesla? Is it still working fine for you? No more issues? Thanks!
I have had a Model S since March of 2014. So far it is working fine after the screen was replaced.
Last update: The local Tesla service center replaced the display and it is working fine now. The total repair took about a week. Tesla gave me a Model S 100D as a loaner until it was repaired.
Good thing to know they do loaners.
I thought I would add an update: Tesla has spent two days giving me there run around on this issue. So far they have only given me a "we are looking into it" response. I simply want to return the car to them and have the either repair or replace it. I also expect a loaner car for the entire time I am without my Model 3. (With about 50 miles on it). So far they have not agreed to that!!!!!
weird. were you a day one reservation holder?
yes and a early Model S owner.
nice. my dad reserved his model 3 on november 29th, 2016, but we don't have a model s or x so it's probably going to take a long time
Good buy? So you really like your trailer?. I think they are nice too.
They are built well and I think the company that bought the T@b line (NU Camp) builds and even better version. We have enjoyed it for three seasons now...
Have you had any problems with the A/C leaking or making too much noise?
No leaks, but it is a bit loud. I did find that if you add a little foam insulation around the from of the A/C unit it helps is cool a lot. You do have to take the two screws out and take the frame off. You also have to make sure you do not cover any of the vents toward the rear of the unit.
lol . 6ft 4 was wondering. how the bed was working for you. I am 6ft one . I am looking at the t@b 400 thanks for the video.
The T@b 400 is a sweet tear drop!!!
Its cool, but why do this to an Acapulco edition? You realize these are $60k cars now? Should have just picked a clapped out base model Thing. You could have sold this one and bought a Tesla! Whoops!
I do not think it was an original Acapulco edition so nothing was lost. I do own a Model S anyway...
Ok, hope so, anyways amazing work on your project, I don't even have the darn motor back in my Thing yet! I was just so saddened when I saw it was an Acapulco ha!
The sad par is that it got totaled in a accident over a years ago...
That's awful, hope everyone was OK, I don't think they are well known for crash safety at the least, that must have been scary!
Yep, I spent. 10 weeks in recovery.... Building a sand rails with the parts and a fully welded safety cage...
