I remember crossing the rail bridge over the tidal river there, to go fishing - that bridge was just steelwork and a path of loose sleepers then!

Beautiful place to camp despite it was literally under the bridge. Could you camp anywhere there? Here in Florida you can only camp in dedicated camping site but I have done a few times so called stealth camping on my bike tours. Good times! 👍
Hello, wildcamping is one of those, not supposed to but it’s not high on the agenda of crimes!! The appeal of this spot is the bridge, there’s not many disused rail lines, and that cross a nice river around here. We set up late, leave early, don’t leave anything behind, it’s such a good spot. They ain't fashionable and not all bikes can take them but I have gone back to a Tortec Epic (ultralite) Stainless Steel rack...fits my rigid On One Inbred MTB and also my Vitus Substance VRS gravel bike, way better for a stable heavy load on the top and a couple of small panniers. I find flat bars offer more choice too- I have the same Topeak "Front Loader" and can get my tent in it with the poles, pegs etc, important to distribute the weight front to back. Drop bars start to limit you to their internal width, and the clearance to the tyres compared to a MTB is way less.... Another thing I'll do is use a drybag rucksack, get a light one and if you are running short on space on the bike, put ONLY light but bulky stuff in there- down jackets, sleeping bags, clothes etc...2-3kg is barely noticeable but frees up space on the bike to carry the heavy stuff!!
Hello, yes all good tips nice one. In summer it’s easy, lightweight, small pack size. Winter is the issue with more and bulkier heavier gear. I’ll very often begrudgingly use a small rucksack for items. Yes the width of drop bars does limit the bag size, sometimes I’ll pack and find I can’t change gear!! 🤣🤣 I made a stabiliser for under my front bag to help with loading and keep the bag off the tyre. @@thedoginside Cheers mate, I always find, no matter how you pack your bike you can always get a few tips from seeing other people do it. I’ve watched lots of videos and collected little tips. Thanks, pool table isn’t going anywhere, the dart board didn’t come back after painting though! 🤣👍🏕️

So the only thing a bivvy is supposed to do is keeping you dry and warm. It is certainly not about comfort. But the rain is freely pouring in, what is the possible purpose of a bivvy in the end?! There is an answer: a one person tent. Like my Hilleberg Unna.
@@kayasper6081 Up until this point the Ridger Raider hasn’t ever let me down. Im going to be waterproofing it but for torrential rain using my Nordisk Svalbard 1 Pu tent. Bivi and hooped bivi are great for stealth spots 👍🏕️ Thanks for watching

@@jonfrance7201 I don’t like to sit on the floor and you can’t guarantee a decent log to sit on. It’s isn’t the lightest or robust, but I get a good six months out of these before the material starts to fail. I think they’re about £8 so I just replace as I go along 👍🪑
@@JamiedoesWildBikepacking sounds ideal Jamie. These look a bit smaller than the fancy folding camping chairs and are a hell of a lot cheaper. Will get one.
