Hello there!
As our Boston adventures seem to have generated quite some interest, I am gladly taking you on board our A340-600 for a takeoff from runway 33L this time!
We were cleared for a CELTK departure that evening in nice weather conditions and had an uneventful and smooth flight.
I chose a different camera angle for you to see more of what is going on on the instruments during push-back, engine start, taxi and departure and I am hoping that you will find it interesting.
If not, tell me in the comments, please and do not forget to share your thoughts and ideas on that! I am open for suggestions... ;-)
Enjoy!

Actually, the ceiling was not that bad, as you can see but the RVR (runway visual range), which is a governing factor for the respective approach, was less than CAT 1. I think the aircraft handled itself quite well...

Cool. First time I've seen a derated climb indication on the PFD
Richtig tolles video, die Perspektive ist der Hammer. A346 hat einen ganz besonderen Platz in meinem Herzen!
Der Flug durch die Wolken ist so wunderschön! 😍
Richtig schön! Tolle Kameraperspektive. 😍
Danke! 🙂
Perfect angle and no music that's all we want!
Beautiful I love flying
I do enjoy these videos, but a part of me thinks, I hope my pilot is not busy making videos for you tube while flying a plane.😅
Hahaha, don't you worry - camera is always installed in a fixed setting and running automatically. No distraction to be feared. ;-)
Love the POV!
I saw Kelly's Roast Beef on Revere Beach!
Love this - not only is this my favorite plane on my favorite airline, 33L departures fly directly over my apartment (I’m fortunate enough that I can plane spot from my bedroom) I live about 2 miles off the end of of 33L, so when they fly past my bedroom they’re only at about 1300 ft
Wow, that is amazing! That must be a nice place to live!
Woah hey neighbor! I also live about 2 miles off the departure end of 33L
Amazing, good to see pilots disconnect AP this far off and get to fly manual
What airline??
Lufthansa
Excelente aterrizaje. Felicidades, polotos y avion.
Excelente Airbus
Phantastische Kameraposition! happy landings!
Danke!!!
I have always loved landing at Logan. I am going to miss those blue skies now that I moved out of state.
2003 in Bangkok.
Very amazing video! I love watching those international flights depart from Boston Logan airport! (I’m a Boston local btw)!
Great camera angle & beautiful light. Very nice and interesting video!
13:36 take off roll begins for those who think that a taxing aircraft is the single most boring thing imaginable in flight videos.
Wow amazing flow, looks 99% similar to the A320 one I’m familiar with from the outside, what’s the reason for the 10s pause between the start sequence of ENG 1&2 or 3&4? Is it part of the SOP or a personal style? On other Airbus 4-engines for example A380 there’s no need to wait, there’s enough pressure to start both of them at the same time.
The start sequence of the engines is laid down in our SOPs and the pause between the start of ENG 1 and 2 - as well as the other two - is due to the requirement to let N3 rpm rise to at least 10% before starting the second engine. Also, there is a pause between left side (1&2) and right side (3&4) - we have to wait until the start sequence for the left-hand engines is finished before advancing to the other side. The reason for this is that Airbus wants pilot's to concentrate on the sequence of one side only in case there is a malfunction and we have to deal with a procedure to fix it.
Thought you would turn right for Europe but what do I know. Thanks.
Yes, this departure seems to be a bit counter-intuitive but its reason is that they want departing traffic to circumnavigate the airport in the west and south before proceeding to the east or north-east to avoid the arrival traffic for runway 22L and 27.
A really nice video, thanks. Out of curiosity, is there a very noticeable difference in take-off performance between the A340-300 and the A340-600? Thankyou!
Oh yes it is. The -300 is pretty underpowered. When they are close to MTOW they struggle quite a lot. In Zürich they have to change runways sometimes to use the longest available.
That is correct.
@@Bimmer_i4_M50 Thankyou
11:32 That’s me CAIR 888
And for anybody curious about the landing light comment we were above light extension speed because of our high speed approach with traffic behind us
How nice!!!
Nice! Live here. Thanks.
Congratulations on the videos. New subscriber from Brazil.🇧🇷✈️👍🏻
Awesome, thank you!
Grew up outside of Boston, it always amazed me that A340’s could fit with its wingspan. Love the hand flying :-)
The one time I flew on a 747, we landed on 4R at Logan, and ran all the way out to the end. I was shocked at how close we were to the water.
@ I bet! Quite a displaced threshold
Beautifull early evening winter Departure from my old hometown love how the sunlight can linger for a long while this time of Year greetings from Lake's area New Hampshire !
PS: was this recently ?
Yes, about a week ago. ;-)
Nice job boy's; you greased that Landing
w
Love the content!! Will you soon visit Detroit? I know Lufthansa fly their A340's here.
Nice, thanks! So far, a trip to DTW is planned to happen for me in january but I am not sure if I will be able to capture approach or landing with my camera because on that trip I will be on the observer seat only. we will see... ;-)
Thanks for making these. I have the Toliss A346 and use these videos to help me fly her more realistic. What will you fly when they retire these birds?
That sounds good! As the service life of these beauties is nearing its end, there are internal talks about where to position the flight crews. In my case, it looks like it will either be the A350 or B787 but things are constantly changing.
Unglaubliche Perspektive. Mit der taxicam noch besser. Danke dafür!
Gern, freut mich!
Are you departing new terminal e?
Yes - position was E10.
@PapaPadde yes I saw, not technically the new terminal I believe but adjacent Sweet take off!
It's amazing how much one learns from MSFS 2020 and now 2024. I'm no pilot but I'm very familiar with the instruments and flight deck activities taking place in this video almost to the point of predicting the actions of the FO and the CPT. Just to be sure, was the FO the pilot flying and the CPT the pilot monitoring? I know it's just a sim, and again, I would never be able to fly these aircraft without the years of proper training and experience, but it makes one appreciate the hard work you do. Also makes one appreciate the value a flight crew of two brings for managing these very complex aircraft.
Thank you very much, appreciate your comment! On this particular departure the FO was pilot monitoring and the CPT (myself) was pilot flying.
Amazing landing🙌🙌
Looks like flew over Medford
Very nice video, thanks for sharing. On your next video (departure from Boston), your camera is located differently, thus showing the instruments as well as the view out the front window. Being able to see the instruments (like ground speed etc) enhances the viewing and learning experience for me. Happy Holidays!
Thanks for the feedback and I am glad that you enjoyed the new angle!
2:00 What are the two “blank” spaces to the left of the PFD? Are these for displays that are not installed? Thank you.
Thats for the fun -o-meter (optional on the Airbus ) standard on the Boeing :)
These seem to have been left open for optional instruments, correct.
🤩😂
Thanks for sharing! Great video! Miss flying with you guys on the A346 on LH452/453. Liebe Gruesse aus California.
Thank you - hoping to have you back soon! ;-)
13:26 ATC cleared you for take off while the runway was still occupied
Boston Tower uses a pre-determined distance between the aircraft just having touched down and the one being cleared for take-off. If you listen carefully, you might be able to notice that the controller is pausing for a short while before actually giving the clearance. He times the clearance so as to make sure that the landing aircraft has passed the intersecting runway before the aircraft in take-off position is starting its roll.
Next time your on approach for 22L over Noley waggle your wings I'll wave back! Great video.
Great aircraft with those huge engines. Very fast and smooth.
butter landing!
Like butter...smooth
Is Lufty the last airline fling the A340?
Excellent. Thank you for the video.
wonderful video, is it standard to disconnect the autothrottle that far out on the approach, or was it for FO training purposes
Thank you! He disconnected the autothrust beacuse he was disconnecting the autopilot as well. Our companies policy is to use manual thrust whith manual flight.
It was my go-to airport for ten years when I lived in Southern Maine. Can't say I ever had a smooth takeoff or landing there, but it was always interesting!
Very cool. That approach goes right over my home airport KBVY. It's always cool to see the big boys lined up overhead when I'm tooling around in a Cessna! 😂
Dude, you should come visit PSM someday. No joke, a couple months back, I departed in between two Atlas 747s. We also get the AN124 on a pretty regular basis. The controllers are awesome, to boot. It’s a great field for GA.
