Is Meshtastic the new Amateur Radio?
You know bro, I've been doing meshtastic wardriving for about a week and none whatsoever detected in my area. Yet we have about 5 milion people here 😂
I would like to see more detail on beartooth, and more real world testing. It seems interesting but the price is going to drive away a lot of people. Me being interested, I want to see where its worth the cost difference over something cheaper like meshtastic. You can send pictures, but how long does it take. Looked really slow on the video. What else can it do? I would also like to see a side by side distance testing using the same antenna.
I’ve set up 2 RAK based repeaters in my area. Ordered ( and have recieved) a WisMesh Pocket the first day Rockland announced them for preorder. Great device!
Whats the advantage over the Ios app?
it share my mesh data ?. .
It can if you are within range of someone using this program. I recommend if Meshtastic users are using the default long/fast channel they change their GPS settings.

That looks pretty cool. I'm gonna check it out. Thanks for the video.
Thank you!
Very interesting, time to have a play around.
Nice overview, God bless.
Hmph.... they didn't do an Intel mac version....
Oh, I didn't know there is a difference.
@@EmCommSolutions Yep, Apple stopped making Intel-based macs in 2019-20, and started using their own chips.
A benefit of the chirp spread spectrum CSS modulation employed via LoRa p2p devices like meshtastic is the ability to pull signals out from below the noise floor so we have a lot of headroom to coaexist in an environment where NextNAV will be driving up the noise. ua-cam.com/video/jHWepP1ZWTk/v-deo.htmlsi=ufCXEDnoTq0cSa6B t16:45
Good point. However, I still hope this petition for reconfiguration of the 900 MHz band fails. Thanks for sharing the video. I have watched at lot of videos about LoRa but that one is by far the best.
Maybe we should turn the tables on NextNav, and ask WHY we should want 3D position tracking for everyone, at all times, indoor as well as outdoor? You think this is going to be for hiking and camping? No this is going to be used for companies to track you with even more fine resolution. I for one, am not interested. I'd much rather have a robust, off-grid, license-free grassroots digital communications network instead.
In case you haven't figured it out, or if anyone else might be curious. Those default text prompts like RGR or @LCC, you can change them to say whatever you want. When you're in the chat and you can click any of those default texts, if instead you hold down on the prompt it should have a green outline around the shorthand text and a menu will popup that will let you change both the shorthand and the full text of what you want to send. For example I changed @LCC to @Camp and it sends at Camp.
Thank you! That is super helpful feedback. I had not figured that out yet.
@@EmCommSolutions My pleasure.
The problem we all have is that the FCC is self funded. They are not funded by congress out of the national budget. They will make money by selling off the spectrum to companies for huge sums of money. Unfortunately money talks. I'm not saying not to try, but know it'll be an uphill battle.
I agree, it is a up hill battle. In this case, I am hopeful because the 900 MHz band affects many commercial and government users too. If you look through the filings you will see companies like Texas Instruments and many government agencies that utilize the ISM bands.
Government doesn't like anything they can't control or decode so they can snoop on all we say. Big brother can't stand it when people try to find ways to communicate outside of their controlled frequencies or companies like motorola or qualcomm that allow government snooping on their users.
I have solar flashlight shaped just like that!
Great video, I'm glad you like the case!
Thanks, Tony!
Thanks. I was able to flash my device; however my screen is black. I tried full erase and install, no change. From my phone app, I am able to detect the T-Beam when I try to pair; however, since I can see the screen, I can't see the code. Can you point me to a resource where I can follow some trouble-shooting steps (hopefully not too technical!). Thanks!!
I have a few questions to help me better trouble shoot your problem. Was the screen working before flashing? Have you tried a different firmware version? What type device/phone are you connecting to (Android or iOS)?
Nice overview, God bless
Sad but no surprise.
So, what I head was “it might interfere with our money😢”
as in NextNav saying it might interfere with their money? absolutely that is what they are saying." please FCC dont tell us no we will lose the USDOT funding" that is exactly what is being said! That is why they are TELLING the FCC they are already funded and they need the spectrum now or else...
900MHz is under attack not just Meshtastic. The truth is out here, look up NextNav and who is supplying the money. Some Folks are deliberately suppressing some information. The USDOT has already paid for the take over of the 900MHz spectrum folks. That is what the filing says if you read it carefully. NextNav has already been awarded over $1.2Bn in 2024 towards this. $7 M in July this year directly towards this project. The goal is to buy the FCC's compliance and to get the users out of the way. This is a done deal, its a matter of how and when. is it gong to be one step at a time or will it be done in one chunk. Either way, its gong to be done. This is an invasive technology either way, and needs to be fought against. Look up NextNav and USDOT and their relationship, its been entangled for yrs, this is not a new company looking to just play around. They know what they are doing, and are being supported by the US government.
I am having issues with longfast - trying to fix location with no gps, heltek v3 seems to drop the set location after a random amount of time.
First questions I have are IOS or Android? I only ask because sometimes it can be an app issue vs. a firmware problem. Unfortunately, I don't have any Heltec devices to run tests on and not experienced your issue. Nonetheless, I will ask around and see if anyone else has experienced this issue.
Submitted
Outstanding! Thanks!
What does nextnav want to use the lower 900mhz for? How would it disrupt meshtastic?
Makes the useable frequency range for us a lot shorter, which means you're going to end up with a lot more interference with each other.
According to NextNav they are creating "3D geolocation technologies that enables position, navigation and timing (PNT) solution powered by spectrum delivers resilient 3D location (x/y/z) as well as timing (t) that works indoors and outdoors, in urban and rural areas." Basically, they want to use parts of the 900 MHz band to be able elevation to geolocating services. For example, with their technology your phone locations services could tell which floor of a building you were on. The concern is may cause interference with Meshtastic devices.
@@actionjacksonsd Thanks.
@@EmCommSolutions Thanks.
@@EmCommSolutions There are already way too many IoT LoRa devices using the 915 frequency, so obviously the request by nextnav will be denied. I think they are negotiating for something else by attacking the 915 range.
Filed.
Maybe if the FCC didn't sell off TV channels going digital, and ham bands there would be enough frequencys for the public. The FCC looks stupid here. They gave enough to business.
The Regime needs to stay out of this
The "regime" isn't - FCC has a charter to regulate the service within congressional oversight. This isn't some "Chevron Deference" type argument when this is one of the few agencies with a regulatory framework thats CLEARLY spelled out in 47 CFR... including petitioning by companies AND incument users for service changes like this video mentioned. GMRS users have the same ability if they could ever come up with a coherent argument to submit for an NPRM. Source: RF Engineer that does this stuff for a living.
@@MotoAlexE tbh a lot of these people who are convinced the gov is after them truly need mental health treatment
i don't know enough about this tech to submit anything useful. But it sounds bad
Didn't the FCC get the message? How ironic the communications wing of our government did not hear the Supreme Court say that Chevron deference is dead and they have no more independent rule-making authority. Congress hasn't passed this as a law and its invalid.
So let's say power is not an option. What type of generator will you use?
Good question. While I am in Europe my only real backup power will come from my vehicle. Once I am back home in the US I have a couple of portable solar panels and ECOFLOW river power bank. However, my plan is to build this set-up to include a 6AH 12v battery in the future.
Is there an estimated time on when these will be available?! I’m highly interested
Based off my conversion with AT Labs, soon so I would recommend reaching out to them.
@@EmCommSolutions I did email them I’m hoping to hear back soon! I’ve been waiting for something like this to enter the market!
At some point non-compliance has to be the way!!!
This is the way.

Yes, it is our constitutional duty, if they do not listen to us
No amount of browbeating or insults will help you make your case that this petition is an attack on any frequency, let alone frequencies that are important to me. For what it's worth, I am a full-time LoRa/LoRaWAN engineer. Anything that threatens Meshtastic also threatens my paycheck. The company that I work for has 10s of thousands of installed LoRaWAN nodes at the cost of several million dollars. If there are any legitimate threats to the ISM band, I'd very much like to weigh in with the FCC. So too my employer and our LoRaWAN network provider. But until I have an argument that I can hang my hat on, filing comments without knowing the facts would just make me an alarmist. That's not good for anyone. If you would please be so kind as to explain the threat involved and the details (frequencies, modes, power levels, etc) then that will help me make a decision as to whether to follow up further or not.
I understand that I may have come off as fear mongering. In my opinion this can be needed for time to time to encourage some people to act. Based on your background it seems you have very goods reasons to be concerned about NextNav’s petition. Further, the way I see this proposed reconfiguration of the 900 MHz band could lead to more congestion and interference for LoRa users, and increased costs for individuals and companies to adapt to the new spectrum allocations. That is why I feel people should submit a comment to the FCC opposing this petition. As of today, there are over 250 comments on this filing. A good example comment is from LA County Metropolitan Transportation Authority filed a comment based on their concern over interfere with the RFID Express systems they use. Below is a direct link to the FCC public notice which may provide you with the additional information you are seeking. Thanks for the feedback, and if I insulted you in anyway I apologize. Nice to see a unique presentation for small businesses. Can you do one on qrp radios?
Great suggestion! I will look into doing one on qrp radios.
Maybe it’s just me, but I don’t understand what the threat is. You’re asking me to file a comment, but what am I supposed to say? I don’t think that it would be helpful for me to comment if I can’t articulate why I think that there is a problem here
@@toddbu-WK7L So you're okay with the FCC selling radio band you or don't use?

Oh, I didn't consider that. Thanks for the feedback.
someone stole one of my nodes and I used RSSI to locate him; then I bullied him off meshtastic by calling him out every time he would try to talk on public mesh
Oh wow, that is a crazy story.
Is your T-beam on while it’s flashing? I get a message on the web flasher that says if it’s an ESP32-S3 device, it has to be turned off and I have to hold down the boot and reset buttons while plugging in the USB. I’ve tried this and my T-beam comes on after plugging in and letting the buttons go. I cannot get the flasher to get passed the connecting phase. It just gets stuck there and won’t load the firmware.
Yes, mine is on when flashing. I have never received that message when flashing. Are you getting the pop-up for the USB connected device?
@@EmCommSolutions Yes. I figured it out. It was showing a different serial port for some reason even though it was the only thing plugged in. I had to hold down boot and reset while plugging it in. Then it showed the correct serial port. Got both flashed and working great now. Time to add more and do range testing.
