Ship Building Tutorial and Updates Intro - Starship EVO (Early Access)

Note: I recorded this the day before an update to the player UI came out. But everything else should be okay. Also apologies for the low quality of video, my video-editing software is garbage. In this video I'll be covering some of the bigger changes since the major update a month or so back, by way of a tutorial showing how to build a basic ship. There's block scaling, tip & tricks for buildin...

Multi-stage Chairs and Landing Pad - Starship EVO (Early Access)

In this I'll be demonstrating the multi-stage mechanism for chairs and landing pads. Basically that means that they start of in one place/position and after pressing a switch they go through a convoluted process of turning and moving before arriving somewhere else! The ABBA mechanism used is based on the rotary block technique I used in my Shifting Lights and Patterns video ua-cam.com/video/4uz...

Playing with Gravity; Airlocks go woosh and short-range tractor beams - Starship EVO (Early Access)

Navigation Lights Tutorial - Starship EVO (Early Access)

    I would try using the Gravity Units for fighter launch tubes, like in Battlestar Galactica. Have the fighter docked on a landing pad that is on rails. Then when you are ready to launch the landing pad moves the fighter into the tube where the gravity field is, and the pilot just has to undock from the landing pad, then gravity should launch the fighter down the tube and out of the ship. Could also use them for torpedo launch tubes, if there are explosive warheads you could put into a torpedo you built. 🤔

    Unless they changed the rules in this latest update (or maybe you're just doing it for visual aesthetics), you don't need to place thrusters in all directions like you do in Space Engineers. As long as you have one forward thruster and at least one other thruster in any other direction (for a total of 2 thrusters), you'll still get full 6 DOF movement.

    • @curioinventorium
      @curioinventorium 2 роки тому

      It's something I've been meaning to experiment with. I built something with only one thruster pointing sideways, yet it allowed me to move sideways in both direction. Like the thruster was pushing and pulling. I kind of see that as a bug rather than the way the game should work. Plus there's no collision checking to see if you've built something over the exhaust port of the thruster, so you could just embed them inside the ship completely. I'm guessing they'll be revised later on :)

    This good the idea of the game, it lacks a survival mode with enemies, traders, buildings, better animations and system of collision between ships or when landing and it would be incredible. Greetings.

    Nice video. Well put together with no time wasted :-) Do you know if Hover vehicles can use Shipyards? If so, I'm wondering if you could use them to transport ground vehicles from one place to another onboard your ship?

      I think someone has tried and it doesn't work. It was raised as an issue on the Github for this game. The work around was to use maglocks on the bigger ship, to lock in place the hover vehicle once you've parked on the bigger ship.

    • @blodgemeister
      @blodgemeister 3 роки тому

      @@curioinventorium I tried it and you're right, it doesn't work. You don't get the option to target/interact with other objects when in a hover vehicle like you do in a spaceship. Hopefully it's a feature that will get added eventually.

    I learned recently that you can daisy chain buttons together to avoid logic gates for a simple button to open a door. All you do is connect a switch to the rail, connect a button to the switch, then connect another button to the first button. Not sure how far this goes though. I’ll have to test it.

    you are so bad at explaining what you have done...try taking it step by step and explain the pathway of the signal more slowly as it arrives at each block, include a description of the block, what it does to the signal etc...it's clear you are good at building things but terrible at explaining clearly how you did it...can you be more methodical in your description please?

      Thank you for the feedback; I suppose a fault of mine is that I rely on people having watched my (or others) previous videos on logic, or have played the game a little while. I suppose I should put a disclaimer on whether the video is a 'starter', 'intermediate' or 'advanced' tutorial video. I have done a video where I explain what each logic block does and somewhat feel that if I do the same level of explanation in each video, things will soon get bogged down in detail and what will start off as a 15 minute runtime will balloon to a 40 minute runtime. Also, sorry for the delay in replying. UA-cam seems to stop notifying me after a while that someone has commented on my video.

      @@curioinventorium no problem, dont get me wrong i genuinely enjoy your vids, but please a little slow down would be the thing, you dont have to do a 'ballooning break down' of every block, just speak slowly and clearly. Otherwise i really like your content, thank you for addressing my comment. Stevo remains an AWESOME game for us both

    I like the mechanisms on the hole, but I can't stop thinking that the Mass/Weight distribution on such pointy legs would look a bit awkward. I guess the mass of the ships doesn't have an impact on how it sits upon landing yet in that case?

    • @curioinventorium
      @curioinventorium 3 роки тому

      I guess it all depends on the ship they're used on. There is some sort of mass to the ships, and they will wobble about if they land on uneven terrain. I will have to think of some more at some point.

    Great to see a new post. I'm just about to go back to your landing gear logic tutorial as I'm trying the reverse a specific set of commands for my pilot seat. All of the logic I know in the game has either came from me working it out my self or watching your channel. It's about a 20/80 split. Needless to say I owe you one.

    • @curioinventorium
      @curioinventorium 3 роки тому

      Thank you :) I'm going to have to try making a fresh tutorial, as I found out by accident that you can daisy-chain rotator blocks while making this video. I don't know how many versions back this was possible. It could free up some logic blocks.
