Shimano has a RECALL running currently STOP RIDE, best you watch if you ride Shimano
That's funny. A rain bike in Perth.
I ride gatorskins. Fixing a flat on the side of the road where i live; well lets just say 'its not a good idea'. That being said, Fixing gatorskins to Reynolds rims is nightmarish!
That's how my clincher GatorSkin tires start to falloff. I thought they would last longer than a year, but I was wrong :( On the other hand, my Tubular Gatorskin tires are lasting more, but I don't use them a lot.
Bin the Conties, Veloflex are the only road tyres you’ll ever need.
I use them on my other bike.
Tubular - worst idea in cycling history (not saying little). Just avoid.
That wheel looks 15-20 years old
Yep and still works fine!
So you don't glue your tubs on the side of the road just put em on and off you go?
Yes, this is common practice for tub repairs. If you use tape, it can be easily done on the side of the road.
I’ve got the same Gatorskins and tape and I love it. But……. I use some sealant in it for 3 years and never had a flat tire 👌🏻
Same thing happened to me after 5000 kilometres. Never thought of checking the bolts torque though.
As someone who started using Tubulars 44 years ago and has used everything else in between it is refreshing to see this video. Only the ignorant and ill informed, ie most riders these days, would maintain that clinchers and tubeless are an improvement on tubulars for normal road use!
I agree they have their advantages but better no, just different. Every tech has its pros and cons. I do think the standard clinchers without the tubeless ready rims were the best everyday tyre. But tubulars are a close runner up.
@@waynosfotosahhh you dissapoint me, for someone who rides Look you should know better, lol. True, quality clinchers have come a looong way in the last decade or two, possibly, probably to even be the equal of tubular maybe for some. But subjective pros and cons (mainly ill made excuses made about their "convenience") aside, tubular by design IS the pinnacle of road bike tyre technology hands down. Used by a competent person they are objectively better by any criteria.
@markcarlton i have tubulars for race day, but for trainimg clinchers are much better. Have a peice of glass slash your tyre, throw a tire boot on it and replace the tube. They all fit nicely in a saddle bag, not so easy with tubulars.
@@stpOwnerso we are in agreement...for absolute performance always use tubular, otherwise as an acceptable compromise, go with second best if you don't mind second best.
Great video, thanks for posting! I'm two rides into my first tubulars, conti sprinter Gatorskins. Absolutely love the ride quality.
Hell yeah I run those also!!!
Well I never knew you could get Gatorskin tubs, interesting. Used Gatorskins (wired on) for winter commuting in the UK and at sub zero temperatures they become very hard and unresponsive and slip on metal work around drains etc but they sure are puncture resistant and got me home over the mountain in the snow and ice at midnight on a number of occasions, so can't complain..
GatorSkin tyres? Animal rights should hear about this!
ahahahha it’s just a name or is this “black humor” from the UK
@@SprayIgniteBoom a crime and black humour
Using gatorskins should be a crime.
I have tufo tubs on my older classic bike and they've been perfect. I had a blowout a few weeks ago on a newish clincher tyre
I used gator skins for many year's no problem do check them after every ride
I personally Prefer TUFO tubs and tape, as the quality is also very good. Conti's are a wee bit OTT with their pricing. Same goes for Vittoria....Tubs should'nt cost more than a ton! ££$$$€€€€.....
Had success with tufo tape so far
Oh Great! Look who came on the start of Le Tour!
Excellent video,my first time using tubulars and I had questions but you covered them all whereas others did not. Many thanks.
You arr like from 19 century
Yep a dinosaur 🦕 😀
My word the old tyre looks 100 years old i'm surprised it lasted that long.
Hey Wayno, I've always used glue as in the UK tape is not allowed on track bikes but picked up some super cheap, super light Corima rims for a road bike build, thinking of using tape basically for ease of change if I get punctured. Anyway I noticed you didn't spin the wheel to check tyre alignment before pulling off the backing tape, does the tyre self align with the rim when pumped slightly before the backing is removed? With glue I have to mess about after as it grabs as I'm putting the tyre on.
Some tyres self align straight away, some not, but it is quite easy to re-align when you are pulling the tape from under the tyre bit by bit.
I find if you put a little air in, not too much, they do come pretty straight. You never get them perfect even if you mess with them, and the area around the valve is always a little off.
@@waynosfotos thanks
Nice job! Used to use Gatorskins, my experience was they had poor grip in wet, but never wore out and would fail at the sidewalls or from dry rot on sidewalls. Nowadays I still use Contis on my road bikes but use Grand Prix, Grand Sport and Ultrasport. The 25mm Grand Prix's made in Germany are my favourites as the black chili compound is very grippy, run them with Cyclami TPU tubes. My steel Thorn Audax has a Zefal HP pump on seat stay pip, great pumps. I can't understand why Bike industry is ditching rim brakes, so much better on a road bike for us amateurs.
Interesting ! Thanks for sharing ❤
I use tubular and tape is the only reason i can bare tubulars. Also the used tubular wheels are super cheap!
I use tubulares... You should use glue... Not tape! Glue is a lot safer (the Victoria glue is really good 👌)
Too much faff with gluing. I have used Tufo tapes for ages. Never once have I had a single issue with this. Replacing a tyre takes me 20 mins. This may be concern for people who race at a high level, but us aging recreational riders don't ride nowhere near aggressively enough to risk a failure of the bond, me thinks.
Glue works but tape technology now makes it stronger, and easier to fit. If tape can hold bus and building windows in, you can be sure that the high end tapes are better than old Mastik. If you carry a spare tub, a taped rim means a new tyre fitted results in enough tack that the replacement tyre is safe enough to ride on.
@@patrickparisienne1917 And one doesn't need to breathe in the toxic glue vapour when re-fitting.
Glue is def the premium option. But you can use tape inside and no need for gloves or solvents, and no toxic fumes. Tape can also be done on the side of the road very easily from a punctured tyre, if you don't want to mess around when you get home. It also doesn't go hard. I get it, for racing yes, for everyday use, I feel tape is a better option.
I'm trying to install Conti sprinter Gatorskin tubs on my bontrager Aeolus 5 rims and if I start from valve and try to stretch and work tire onto rim from both directions, I reach a point where I can stretch no further and the tub makes a straight line 6in from the rim. WTF you crazy German tire makers?
Ignore that comment. I'm a tub rookie who forgot to deflate tire before stretching onto rim. Duh. After eating humble pie for breakfast I'm going to get out on my first ever tub ride with my steel bike.
Amazingly enough, I have a video to make exactly on these tyres. So stay tuned for that one. Full installation of rear tyre.
@@waynosfotosI have a set glued up. Glued up about 3 years ago Bike has been stored indoors. So no great heat or cold. Think they'd be okay to ride? Or start over.
105 should vs centaur. put chorus vs 105 is not match game chorus 3 time more expensive than 105
Yep, why the easy way when You can make it complicated, expensive and frustrating. The bike industry is trying to sell us all sorts of sh!t ! Profit rules.

Thanks for great video. 95% of all riders does not have any use of more than 48/11 or like SRAM 46/10 because its only the absolutely strongest who can run 50 km/h or more on the flat, they can use the bigger rings. And when we get older we start thinking more of the consequences to drive full speed down the hills if you get a puncture
I literally recently bought a fucking Canyon Grail and installed GP Urban folding tires - are you telling me THEY’RE NOT COMPATIBLE AND EVEN DANGEROUS?!? I spent $6000 on a bike but I can’t run most tires on the market with TPU tubes?!?! I can’t even Amazon return the tires I already tossed the boxes. WHAT IS HAPPENING WITH BIKE BRANDS?!?!? ZIPP 303 FC SHOULD JUST HAVE A HOOK THEY’RE EXPENSIVE
wow, never heard of that before, thank you.
Di2 has it down to a science
I just started riding tubular since I needed a new wheelset and didn't have a big budget for clinchers or tubeless. I love how they look and feel on my bike. However I haven't been using any sealant or carrying something like Vittoria pitstop. So I am definitely a little anxious about doing longer rides. Can anybody recommend a good sealant to carry...or just use in my tires now. My tires are stuck on using Tufo tape. I didn't want to deal with the glue and heard good things about Tufo tape.
Just carry sealant and a piece of tubing that fits tightly over the valve. When you get a flat, take out the valve and add sealant, replace valve spin tyre, pump up, don’t use CO2. A better solution is to carry a spare tubular, light one. I have a video on how to fold them nice and tight so they fit in your jersey pocket.
@@waynosfotos thanks!
I have the same bike and have the same issue with the front chain rings. Either they overshoot or drop quite often. It's not very smooth. I have the look stamped chain rings and I'm pretty sure they're made by strong light. Praxis makes different chain rings. Which ones did you use??
Praxis, but it was okay, but now still does it. Weird, I don't know what is causing it and why this has developed with age.
As I get older I'm less concerned with speed and the latest tech. I've started thinning my collection of modern bikes and have picked up vintage steel. A lot of the older bikes from the 80s and 90s come with tubs. So, I think as long as the vintage market and Eroica events are still going, there will always be a need for tubulars. Could be a nod back in time for nostalgia but I think when it comes to riding, a more practical clincher probably is the choice of many. I've found tubulars on Amazon for cheaper than a lot of clincher tires.
HOOKLESS RIMS..
Reviewing the groupset but with substituted crankset and calipers. Weird. Also, can't even pronounce Campagnolo correctly!
Greed... reap what you sow. The industry wanted COVID levels to be the new normal. They gouged the consumers.... and consumers are voting... with their wallets.
Forcing people to buy road bikes with hydraulic disk brakes and electronic shifting is a mistake. No road bike needs disk brakes, and electronic shifting while nice, isn’t necessary and not really worth the price. 10 years ago you could buy a full dura ace carbon bike for less than 2500€. I bought my brand new Cube Agree with Dura-Ace for just 1800€ on discount. And that bike was lighter and faster and more reliable than a modern 5000€ bike.
Charge less for the bikes they discount by 40% anyways.
Feel sorry for the workers losing their jobs through no fault. My own new bike purchase is being kicked down the road and not just because of the financial outlay but tech reasons also. I feel it could be a long road, sure i'm not the only one!
Hi, had a question. So I had veloflex roubaix’s on for years no issues no flats or anything. Eventually they wore out and now no one makes them anymore. I got the pro race tours and they were great until I flatted the front then the rear got ruined by glass. I got some Vittoria rally’s as a quick cheap replacement but when I fitted them I’ve had really bad bump in my rear wheel. So much where it’s effecting my ride quality. Is this a tire quality issue or is it not seating properly on the rim or something? Any advice would be great. I put a brand new one on the other day and it flatted in the first ride maybe due to the bumping I’m not sure.
So its funny..you dont have or test the bike. I have the oltre with ultegra di2 and fulcrum carbon wheels. Honestly best bike i ever road. Which is a lot since 1985. I habe a custom cyfac on super record 11. Scott. Carrera. Moser. Lemond. This oltre really rides tge best of all of them.
In my opinion it’s not rocket science - if you are over stocked , you sell at reduced prices to generate income . I don’t only Blame bike brands like Trek , Giant or Scott ( just to mention 3 ) being in this predicament, but also the components manufacturers - think about it , a Sram Force group set is 2400 € ( without power meter ) online in Germany . 2400 € ?!?!?!? Prices need to be more realistic . Lastly , I do not think that people purchase bikes today mainly to commute , but rather for physical activity .
Holding on to a 2017 Canyon endurance, came with ultra for £1000! I would buy a new bike but the prices are ridiculous so I just keep servicing it. If they reduce to price to a reasonable amount I'l buy a new bike!
