    I would like to think in this time where cycling has a bad name that the ambassadors for the teams would think twice about PEDs.
    The performance was impressive and for me I'd like to say he was fresher, his domestiques had assisted him exceptionally early on. TBH I am fed up of the finger wagging and accusations.
    An easy way to put everyone on an even playing field is to allow all PEDs unrestricted and if the riders want to blow up (literally) let them take the drugs. Then test everyone and heavily time penalty anyone with such drugs in their system based on efficacy of the drugs, combinations etc. This could, if done properly level the field and not penalise the clean riders.
    If a rider has on his long term medical records a history of Asthma then no penalty for Sabutamol, and similar for other long term medical conditions. Anything tacked on at the end with a Sharpie should be questioned and tested by a UCI doctor. 😂

    The time trial was done near the end of a very hard Tour and included a hard climb near the end so there was only likely to be one or two likely winners. The fact the best climber won it, is no big shock. Comparing it to a stand alone time trial as some have is just nuts.

    If jonas had a long history of time trial wins then we wouldn't all be here lol. But he has never been world champion etc etc in that discipline. For anyone to beat the majority of riders by over 3 mins on such a short course is definitely suspicious for sure!. And let's be honest Jumbo do have history!!. and we did also see at the tour Jumbo riders dropped only mins later back at the front and pulling like a train!, even the commentators were in disbelief!. Maybe there is a new substance that aids rapid physical recovery?. All I know is I had memories of the old bad days returning and let's again be honest it's not just me it's all over the net.

    Regarding the whole question of doping in cycling, I have a simple minded suggestion: cycling is a team sport so, if a member of a team is caught doping, why not disqualify the whole team? Wouldn't this increase the likelihood of clean riders ratting out the dopers? Just a thought.

  • @TheKryztiandivor
    @TheKryztiandivor 11 місяців тому +2

    There is (at least) one inherent problem within this speculation about whether Jonas was using doping or not or e.g this "arranged win".
    Basically, Jonas can't prove that he was/is clean, because we can always doubt the results regardles of where they are made (e.g WADA, independent labs etc). We can always say that too much money is involved, so people involved are silenced because they profit from it.
    Trump said/is saying that he was robbed presidency in America, but hasn't been able to show any proof of it (no technical evidences). Yet, to his followers this claim is true.
    Historically, we've seen doping as a (big) issue in cycling, no one can arque against that. But those persons were caught (eventually).
    I'm conviced that in time, Jonas and Jumbo-Visma will be caught if they were/are using doping (just like Lance Armstrong and his crew).
    So, I think that without evidence, we shouldn't judge and speculate too much about whether Jonas was clean or not. Without proof of doping, he is clean.

      I agree unless it's proven that's he's cheating then he's not. We seem to
      live in a world of guilt by default and that's not how we evolved our system of law and order. Suspicion and vigilance is acceptable based on history.

      @@waynosfotos no, You didn't mention doping but this "arranged win ".
      Trump is just an example of one saying something that isn't true (at least unable to produce evidence) but becoming true to many. So, Trump is just an example and if the comparison doesn't fit, then we can forget it.

    Kinda tired and fatigued with all this creative and not so creative conjecturing as to how Jonas, AND ONLY JONAS, was cheating in one way or another. With regard to a deep rooted conspiracy that pushed all the riders to let Jonas win, I find it unfathomable that the cycling power brokers could manage to subvert all the riders to their unethical will and keep them silent. I also find it unfathomable that the competitive spirit that clearly drives these riders could be extinguished by old men in arm chairs...many of whom could not begun to understand the sacrifices and suffering these riders endure to compete in the ultimate cycling race of the sport. I am not saying it is impossible these riders are doping in some way. But I am saying that it is crazy to think Jones is doping in a manner magically different from all the rest.

    I think pog was let win that final battle with JV he came back too strong after weeks of lacklustre. Whether JV or TP or others are juiced up is anyone's guess but personally I feel they are just pushing those high watts per kilo based on the upper body leaness. Greg lemond discusses the weight of pro riders now and the relative watts per kilo which renders the high watts per kilo figures.

    From 156th to 3rd place everyone was getting faster by 0.0 to 0.1kph. 2nd place jumps up 1.3kph in speed from 3rd place, and then Jonas jumps up 2kph faster than 2nd place. Astounding! This was against the strongest, most talented and well prepared riders in the world. So of course it raises questions. Unbelievable.

    You go mad comparing yourself to freaks of nature. Anyone who is seriously above 5W/kg is beyond my ken, however he (or she) does it. There is a lot of money involved, how much will SRAM make from this? How much will Shimano lose? Now admit that we won’t know for several years, if ever.

      I think cheating in any sport can be traced to money, whether it's via PED's, getting some competitors to "take a fall" in order to allow someone or some team to win. Generally, it is the less lucrative sports like cycling, track and field, etc., that seem to get the most attention of WADA and the like. It's also the case that if star athletes generate lots of money from popularity of a sport, authorities tend to look the other way in regard to PED testing. Lance Armstrong, for example, made pro cycling and cycling in general more popular than ever while he was winning Tours de France, but wasn't prosecuted until after he retired after 7 wins. The baseball doping scandal of the late 90's didn't come to the fore until after the prodigious home run race had transpired between guys like Sammy Sousa and Mark McGuire. American football players are hardly ever investigated for PED's, even though they are all huge compared to their predecessors from 40+ years ago. Pogacar and JV are generating large fan bases and lucrative sponsorships. No one wants to kill the cash cow.

    • @glennoc8585
      @glennoc8585 11 місяців тому

      Watts per kilo will go up if you develop you leg strength but are small by nature in the upper body by genetics and strict diets. Greg Lemond talks about it in his recent interviews. He even said he could've been 5 kgs lighter if he had the diet plans now back in his day whilst putting out his 400w. His watts per kilo then on paper would be higher. Pro cyclists look odd today compared to history...all legs jockey and POW upper body mass.

      Not really . All the top commentators and cycling experts were expecting between 5 and 20seconds at most between Pogacar and JV. And in the end it was 1min38 in a 22.4km tt! And nearly 3minutes to 3rd place! U seem to think this is completely normal which is fine. Many of us here don't. Hardly a conspiracy. Just very hard to explain without a bit of help ;)

    I think I speak for most Americans, we don't care about the Tours. Those races are like watching a golf match on TV. It's a European thing for sure but here you mention a name of a Pro Cyclist and nobody can tell you anything about him or even know who he is. I say if they want to dope let them, they aren't getting any money from me and I wouldn't buy the garbage they ride. Until we get another cyclist that can do what Lance did for cycling I am done with it.
