25 Steam Railways - UK preserved steam in the early-1990s

25 different railways in England, Wales and the Isle of Man, don't think there's any of Scotland. Standard gauge and narrow gauge. Not all steam. This was a commercial VHS tape that I purchased a long time ago, the production quality and content leave a lot to be desired but it's still an interesting look at the preserved railway scene in the early-1990s. I don't own the copyright, I simply upl...

I was thinking about getting a big hauler after a get some good lgb track
Romney and hythe and Dymchurch railway my favourite place
I have the Emmet Kelly Jr. Circus version of this loco from the Roustabout set. Ironically I haven't seen any videos on UA-cam of that particular one. They're very underrated little lokies.
15:27 This Famous Locomotive Mallard Can Do Work On Famous Named Trains On The London And North Eastern Railway's East Coast Main Line Such As The Flying Scotsman And The Elizabethan Express From London Kings Cross In London In England To Edinburgh In Scotland In The United Kingdom. Thanks Mate. X❤😂
Great Marquess is beautiful
20:48 Snowdon mountain railway is one of my favourite ABT rack and pinion railway in Wales and Britain. Number 4 Snowdon and number 7 Ralph
Snowdon number 4, 0-4-2 tank engine. Built by Swiss Locomotive & Engine works at Winterthur Switzerland in 1896 and works number 988. 5 steam locomotive delivers to Llanberis. Number 1 L.A.D.A.S. number 2 Enid, number 3 Wyddfa, number 4 Snowdon and number 5 Moel Siabod On the open day engine number one Ladas fell from the curve from Clogwyn down to the mountain on the opening day. Sadly number 1 never return to steam it use her parts to mend the 4 steam locomotives. In 1922 three new steam locomotives arrived from Switzerland number 6 Padarn, 7 Ralph and 8 Eryri. 1963 number 2 and 5 locomotives send to Hunslet in Leeds for overhaul
What is the name of that locomotive in real life
The Severn valley railway is on the border between Worcestershire and Shropshire
57:12 Pretty sure that 5 chime on No.4 is a Nigel Day creation.
The into is *pure* nostalgia for me, used to play this on VHS constantly. Thanks for sharing!
Incredible video! Would you mind if I used this in a tribute video on my own channel? I'll link back to you and give you credit, of course!

Magnificent! Just the name "Bob Symes" is enough to get a 'Like' from me. Sadly, still trying to find some of his "Making Tracks" series (with Mary-Jean Hasler, if my memory is correct) -- I live in hope... EDIT Not a bad guess: I typed the above before I'd watched this video, and just saw her name in the credits. ;)
The Sierra Railway 7 was a Big Hauler Locomotive from An American Tail
Actually it was 126 miles perhour
Hey Glen's Train Stuff. Can I please use some of your footage in my films? I will credit you for it.
9:04 This GWR Pannier Tank Engine No.5775 From The Railway Children Is A Bit Like Duck The Great Western Engine From Thomas The Tank Engine And Friends The Original Series. Old School Times Man. Thanks Mate. X
It's the basis for Duck
26:56 This Famous Locomotive Sir Lamiel Built In 1925 From The Southern Railway Design By Richard Maunsell Which Used To Worked On Famous Named Trains Such As The Golden Arrow Boat Train From London Victoria To Dover In Kent And The Bournemouth Belle Pullman Express Train From London Waterloo To Southampton Central In Hampshire And Bournemouth In Dorset. I remember buying the DVD when I was a young kid. this and Strange trains are so vivid memories of my childhood
G track, what scale?
What happened to Mary Jean Hasler, she co-hosted with Bob Symes for years.
Bob Symes will be missed.
Robert Symes will be sadly missed by us all
Pendennis Castle the GWR Castle Class Locomotive 4079 [Ringo Starr, voice] 5:34 [train whistle] Sir Lamiel the King Arthur Class Locomotive 777 28:07 [train whistle]
Where's the Scotland one?
The servern valley railway isn’t in the south
The Atlas is identical to the cow printed locomotive except for the paint scheme
47:38 "Dry rails and good running" from Skarloey...his little old twin
The nostalgic legend is back!
Nice video. Love it!!! This channel desperately needs S M Z E U S!
I had this on VHS but I had forgotten the total mess the narrator makes of some of the place names. Interesting footage though.
U Class Moguls 31874 and 31806, 47298 3F Jinty always moved to swanage railway and ELR residents 76017 Standard 4 Mogul left from old home of MHR 5775 under overhaul before return in steam soon as we can, also been replaced by 4F 49324
Used to ride this as a kid, u can still see the remains of it today, what's the engine called
The engine was called 'Lynton' a 2-4-2 Tinkerbell class, it was built as 7 1/4 gauge but later regauged to 10 1/4
What is that extra exhaust on Linda? Just found out, laidlaw drew exhaust
I think the additional exhaust by the cab is from the vacuum ejector, usually this would be piped to the chimney entrance. Linda was fitted with a Lempor exhaust in 1985 and had a Gas Producer Combustion System until 1986. It burned coal but with less primary air through the grate, with more secondary air over the top of the fire instead. Laidlaw Drew was the oil burning system the FR used.
Hey. Can I please use some of your footage in my films? I will credit you for it.
Are those Bachmann passenger cars
This is true nostalgia!
So cool
Greta would not approve…. How dare you!!!!
Who cares what greta thinks. This train is awesome!
Thank you so much for uploading this. what a fantastic program. i remember seeing it as a child, and now having crossed over the border, it reminds me of my childhood in wales. some of the pronunciations are a bit off in places but i'm not complaining. i believe there are 4 programs in the series: Northern England, Southern England, Scotland and Wales. As a side note, i thought the Rheidol tanks were built by Davies & Metcalfe....
Thank you. I've got the two programs from Northern & Southern England and they'll be uploaded in the next week or two. Don't have the Scotland one unfortunately
About the Vale of Rheidol locos, they were based on 2 locomotives built by Davies and Metcalfe, sadly not officially built by them.
@@Northerner_Transport_Hub that is a shame, what happened to those 2 locos?
@adamdrummer1991 no idea as they were built a long time ago
I've been a couple of times, an interesting little railway..... great upload!
Was that Earl of Merioneth hauling 14 coaches at 11:10? Can’t wait til it’s back in steam.
That's my brother driving the coal train 🙂
What was your brother's name? it's on the tip of my tongue but I cannot remember! I used to work on the railway driving the trains with Rich from when they first set up in the 90's. Happy days indeed!
@@chriswalden6519 Dylan Jones
@@garethjones7101 Please say hi to Dylan for me, I'm not sure he will remember me but we were definitely there at the same time.
This was a commercial video that I purchased in 1986. I don't own the copyright and I'll be happy to take it down if requested by the copyright holder. The Ffestiniog gala of April 1986 was a huge deal. Prior to this the railway didn't really do gala weekends so this was the first time they'd ever attempted anything like this. And the fact they had a visiting loco (in the form of Chaloner from Leighton Buzzard) was also a huge deal. And finally this was the first time that demonstration gravity trains had operated. That's 17-year-old me firing Chaloner (with the naff green overalls) along with owner/driver Alf Fisher. Great memories!
Excellent!
nice
Before it became Warner Bros Studios this site was the Rolls Royce factory. It had its own social club and next door was a raised miniature railway. By the time this video was taken most of the site had closed down but on Sunday mornings a couple of former members would show up and run their locos I think the track was last used around 1987. Now all demolished. This was the first time I steamed my Sweet Pea loco after buying it the day before. It was cheap, think I paid 600 quid for it, but it was a bit of a dog, poorly built and with a steel boiler. Never steamed very well. It embarrassed me once at the Colney Heath track by running out of steam. We were not asked back again! But I had some fun with it.
From when the SMR was a proper steam hauled heritage railway. There's nothing "traditional" about diesel haulage on this type of railway. Lovely video, thanks for posting.
watching this Bachmann big hauler haul a 14 car train is awesome. I'll see if I can push that number to 15.
