Hauling A Massive Moose Shed Out Of The Bush

One of my most memorable shed finds. This trip has soooo much great footage of hunting grouse, multiple shed finds, great fishing and great weather! I am SO thankful to God for what I have been able to do in my years up here. I hope to have many more. Stay tuned for the full video in about a month. (I work 60 hrs a week & have over 100 hours of footage to squash down.)

I am the 1st person to reach this lake after 59 Yrs. Starlight Lake! This was the most challenging routes I have ever taken. I tried to keep the video entertaining by shortening clips. I will release a lot more extra footage later as I explain in detail a lot more things about my trip & how I do things. Thank you so much for following me on these trips. I hope this channel takes off to where I ...

BWCA Trip With Dad And Our Best Friend
I totally agree with your reflection at the end. So many people diss hunters because it appears more violent, but it’s way more humane than the factory farmed shit everyone is eating today. Love your videos!!
Thank you so so much for following my story. god willing, I hope to have many more years out there doing what I do and pushing it a bit more each time.
Beautiful area - How heavy is your canoe? Is that a Wilderness model? Also curious if you see / hear any bears? Thanks for video Most interesting!
@@jacklowe3788 I think the canoe is 36lbs. But with the seat and other bag under the seat, etc. maybe 40. On a solo trip in primitive I see an average of 4 or so bears each trip. Some I have had pop up in bush right by me when shed hunting. It’s crazier when a moose pops up by you. One time a big bull got up 10 feet from me. I heard it get up and before I could turn around to look at it, I could already see the shadow the size of a house it was casting
@@jacklowe3788 thank you for following my adventures
Some nice fish & beautiful lake! What canoe model are you fishing out of ?
@@jacklowe3788 thank you. It is a wenonah aurora. I have never seen anyone else paddle one. It is a tandem canoe that I converted into a solo. I switch it back to tandem when I take a friend.
That slog to get to Starlight Lake. The signatures from the 60's on that sign was outstanding.
@@craigjohnchronicles2504 it is quite the memory. I am glad to be able to share it with everyone. My next video coming out in a month or so is also a wild journey off in primitive land.
Looks like a great adventure There's a better way to hoist the canoe up on your shoulders. Place the bottom of the haul on your thighs first, grab each side of the gunwale then hoist.
That was probs just a large house cat, out on the prowl
@@eugenemurtagh2085 yea it must’ve been. lol
Listen to that heavy panting. Sounds like me when I get up to go to the bathroom. 🤣
I have asthma that flared up during that night ya butthole. lol
I heard one last year at bald eagle lake. Middle of the night
I have heard them as well before. Sounds like a weird cat
Absolutely incredible animal to see out there!! I’m so jealous.
It blew my mind. I figured I would get a wolf on film way before a lynx
Super cool! Lynx are incredibly rare to spot in the bwca, let alone get a good video. What said stash were u talking about. Grouse stash? Also, love your bwca exploration videos.
I had 7 nice sheds that I stashed so I didn’t have to haul them everywhere I went. Thank you SO much for following my journey.
Looking forward to the video! I see you cut the hair off
@@FishingWithKa I have had long hair 10x before and a beard 1000. I never like to stay the same. It now growing out back to long. It’ll take 1.5 yrs. Then I’ll donate and shave it again
@@FishingWithKa thanks for following my journeys
Yes it shows that info on topographical maps.
@@WTIM-TV13 negative. It shows elevation change but not anywhere near accurate to know how much or how fast it changes. As far as anyone knows, it could be a steady incline or a steep drop. Believe me. I have been using topography maps out there to navigate in primitive areas for 10 yrs
Grouse hunting by Archery is pretty sweet.
@@coonlakebackwoods it feels so good stalking them with a bare bow
Have the mosquitos decided you are a part of the environment or don't you feel them anymore?
@@terrygrabosch4882 they do not bother me one bit. We have made a pact.
Nice Necklace dude! Awesome video!!
@@steveklick thank you. It is a picture of me with my boy Duke. He just passed and was the love of my life! He was a 160lb Great Dane that loved his papa
Dude so cool you are hunting grouse with a bow. Are you using judo points??
@@walfredspitia I use judo points on one arrow and on another a smaller less spread hard rubber stop for when the shot is too tight to take in between foilage. I have a lot more grouse hunting videos to release still. Just no time to edit and put it out there.
@ nice info thank you! I can’t wait to see those videos! Good luck out there man
How big is that rain fly your using? Do you like a particular brand?
@@rc3489 20x13 with a lot of different tie downs for all sorts of angles and figurations depending on wind, rain, a hangover during the day, another hammock space etc. it is just as light and compact as a normal 10x12 just about. But it costs $240. If a person is not very experienced with tying down a tarp in high winds, I would not suggest it. Having that expensive of one rip, would suck ballz
Nice shot!
@@fungionthefly thank you! I have so many more to post still
@ nice! I look forward to it! I started grouse hunting with a recurve bow too this year! Though I’m not quite as successful with it yet. 🫠
@ tips - look for rocky creek beds in between lakes. I listen for them (the chirp sound they make). I still hunt. Early morning and late evenings are best. And when you see one, don’t make direct eye contact as you walk towards them until you are ready to shoot.
@ thank you! Good tips!
Where did you get that alarm for your food?
@@rc3489 Amazon:). Basu 130 db bear alarm

Wish all harvests were like that
Your BWCA content is the best out there!
@@rc3489 thank you so much!
What an incredible adventure! Thanks for taking us along
@@rc3489 God willing, there will be many more! Thank you for following my story
Well done! Great shot, not an ounce of meat wasted, and smooth clean harvest. Bird never even knew.
Outstanding. I know an old timer from the ely area that told tales of beaver trapping with his dad in that no mans land, back in the 60's. They'd snowmobile in on the hard packed creeks and rivers. They built a log shack near Adams lake for their base camp. To think you're "possibly" the first person to make it to the starlight lake area since the snowmobile era is incredible. I'll be watching all your content. Well done
Thank you so very much! These journeys I take have got me through some terrible times in life by grounding me for a while to a simpler life. Then, I'm coming back out after 3-4 weeks with a new appreciation for my life and all the small blessings in it. I have an amazing video to put together of my September trip. But right now, I am going through a lot once again hitting one of those life speedbumps with a few spikes in it. I hope to get it done by December. It takes a LOT of work to edit 100+ hrs in like 45;)
Really some impressive fish!
Thank you very much! I can not tell you how many years and hours that I have put into learning how to locate and catch this fish. I just returned from another trip. The next movie I post will be mostly shed hunting and grouse hunting. Just a little fishin
@@MichealGrabosch you figured it out for sure. What time of year do you get your biggest and is it back in the untouched lakes mainly? Some of those walleye were really impressive and you normally expect to see those in bigger water. I have been traveling to Quetico more lately but your videos have shown me there is plenty of adventure in the BWCA to discover!
Awesome ! I’m sure you could’ve made 5 or more vids from all the footage you’ve got
@@farmpondbuzz9714 could make dozens but just not as entertaining. I come back with over 30 hrs of footage for momth trips. I just got back from a super fun on. Found a matching set of huge sheds and had an encounter with a bobcat
Just found your channel. Not sure how I missed it but great stuff. Your routes are legit! Lots of wild territory in the BWCA people don’t get to often. Thanks for the ride!
@@SoloSchmitty I just got back from a very exciting trip. Another month, I should have a cool video on it.
@@MichealGrabosch nice! I look forward to it!
By FAR the best BWCA content I have seen… and I watch a lot! Keep doing your thing. Love the style and feel of your videos! 🎉
THANK YOU SO MUCH! I just got back from a long solo that entails a lot of great shed hunting, a nice lake trout, a lot of grouse hunting, explored 4 new lakes and had an encounter with a bobcat up close
Isn't there a time limit you can stay in?
Actually, no. Once you are in, you are in. I have met a guy up there that goes in around end of may and does not take out until october.
@@MichealGrabosch Hard. Core. I have been to BWCA 18 times. I go every year. This trip here was one of the best videos I've watched... maybe ever. I don't fish... I just enjoy the serenity. But for a trip of this length I suppose fishing is required, just to have enough food for the trip length. You have inspired me, sir.
@daakrolb thank you. Is this your favorite video of mine? I leave this next week for another trip. This time grouse hunting, shed hunting and fishing. Anything you suggest to see in the video more of or any suggestions?
@@MichealGrabosch This was the first vid of yours I had ever seen. I'd be interested in a "definitely DO & Don't take this & that" vid, or maybe even just a section of a video pertaining to that.
Thanks much I’m probably heading up that way middle of September with my old osprey
I hope you have a great time! I will be up there the last week of Sept when the trees all start turning.
What was your most successful lure? I saw alot of spoons. What else were you using?
I use large spoons to target the big fish. If you watch my latest video, I describe how it might not be worth it unless you have a lot of time and energy to spend using them. But I also mainly use mepps alliance color number 5. It's an all-around great lure up there unless you want walleye or lake trout that is. And of coarse whopper ploppers or jitterbugs
Great video! I used to bow hunt also but now I just look at stuff. lol 💙 I love BWCA. I can't imagine you live anywhere but Ely 😎
Thank you very much!! I am leaving in a month to do another grouse & shed hunting trip. Unfortunately, I do live quite far away from ely. If I lived there, I would be posting dozens of trips a year:) I live in the quad cities, Iowa. About 9 hours away:(
Fucking A. Your videos are inspiring as fuck. Youre doing it right. Thank you
Thank you SOOO much. Sometimes, I doubt this channel will ever take off. But I know what I'm doing out there is worth putting the time in to record & edit. And comments like yours help keep that doubt at bay a bit. I'll keep on keeping on with this channel for awhile longer. Have a trip coming up in Sept:)
Love the PMA map you use!!!
I have one for every one of my trips! Check out the other videos if you get time:) my bestfriend Roman I hope to join me next year on his first trip
@@MichealGrabosch I watch all your videos - love the content! It'll be great to see Roman out there in the woods. :)
He with all your experience what would you charge to take someone on a fishing trip to the Quetico I have been there a few times??!!
I have bounced around the idea of being a guide for a while as i have been asked a lot. There are a lot of factors. Mostly because the trips I take are my vacation time from my jobs. I get 7 + weeks a year but i do not live near bwca. I live 9 hrs south in iowa. So if someone one day really wanted to make a go of it, I would love to do it all as a guide for them over the top. Setting up camp, porting gear, showing all tips from my years, taking them where they want, do what they want to do, chop wood, start fires, cook meals, provide the canoe, food and gear etc etc. But it would have to be worth my time due to it not being my regular job* I am a finish trim carpenter and work at ups. So there would have to be a lot of back and forth conversations about it.
Excellent as always - bringing my solo up in September for a quick lil trip - stoked!
The last week of Sept is so beautiful. The trees are so vivid with colors.
What kind if canoe are you using?
I have never seen another one, but wenonah does still make them. An Aurora. It is a very all well rounded canoe! My favorite by far, and I have paddled most of them. But I also convert this canoe from a tandem into a solo because I go on such long trips. It's a huge benefit to having more space. It is a very deep canoe.
Wow!!!🐟🐟👋😎👍
Right?! I thought she was going to let go at any point.
Excellent surprise 🐟👋😎👍
You really put your feet and ankles to the test! Any recommendations on footwear?
That is to put it lightly. My first 4 times traveling solo in p.m.a for over 3 weeks at time, the best rated footware gave out! I now use which I have used 2 trip and year round at work and out to eat sometimes because they look nice! - La Sportiva Raptor 2 or something
However, I do not wear them for ankle support. I wear them for their lightweight feature, best durable, and a nice solid toe in case I stub it hard on something. The grip is amazing on rock. Around camp and when porting I wear waterproof seal socks. Around camp, I wear artic shield insulators with socks and or sandlas. It's amazing
@@MichealGrabosch Thanks! I will check them out. I usually where Xtratuffs when it's cold but being rubber they are hard to swim in when they fill up with water. I wear the Keens when it's warm but need something for cold water paddling and or more rigorous type of trips
Great video as always. I have the utmost respect for what you are doing. I cannot imagine the physical suffering that these videos aren't capturing. I have been up in the BWCA at least fifty times and understand how remote some of these places are. Your videos keep me motivated for the trips I have coming. I really respect how you respect the land and share tips on what to look for to get through some of these remote areas. The moose shed one was a new one for me and I plan on trying that cheese trick as well.
Thank you so very much! The number of cuts, scrapes, or soreness is crazy after getting to a lake off grid. Haha. It takes a good week about until I am even able to physically make it back out of there. Thanks so much for following my journey.
was alot of the fishing from this video from Starlight?
Not really. 2 of the big northern were. I try not to put all fishing back to back so people don't get bored if they don't like the fishing aspect. I try to space fishing out in the video
What kind of boots do you have?
Great question. I have used some of the best. All of them have failed me on 25-30 day solo trips. All have ended up with part of the toe side coming off. Except these I have used for 3 trips and work every freakin day! La Sportium. Ultra raptor 2
Thanks, great video. Heading up to bwca next week and excited to be back behind the paddle.
You did it bro! Starlight Lake! Keep up the great videos! Very entertaining!
Thank you very much. This is one of the biggest accomplishments I have achieved. I'm so happy to be able to share it with people who love the same thing.
My kinda video! I like the fact you go off the beaten path in search of solitude! Enjoy your vids. Raw and unfiltered. Keep up the great work!
Thank you so much for following my adventures. I have a big one coming up in late Sept adding grouse to my diet while out there
What a fun experience!
PFD?
I only wear one when crossing large lakes or in bad weather. To each their own
Looks like you are fishing on the east side of the spherical planet 🌎 i was starting to think the flat earthers were right until I saw this video
Whats the rain gear you’re using?
I am not quite sure. I plan on doing a gear review soon for people that have asked
@@MichealGrabosch thanks!! I go but never solo, nor pma. Really dig your videos and lifestyle!
